The Summer Convention and Trade Show is produced by the Craft & Hobby Association and its members"
And it's from July 20-22nd.
I'll be at the gel-a-tins booth, so come by and see me!
I will be there! I am going with some of the other Craft Critique Reporters! I'd love to try and meet up with some other SCS'ers while we are there... we were thinking of organizing an informal Saturday dinner maybe???
I'm going! I'm so excited. I am going as a reporter for Craft Critique. I am driving to Chicago with the woman that owns the scrapbook store I teach at! Woo-hoo!
I'm not going. Why would I want to spend 3 days surrounded by the latest new craft stuff -- when I can be working in sky high heat and humidity for the Federal Government? It's a no brainer....

LOL!! I can see your dilemma Joan! I would love to go, but won't be able to to.
I would love an informal meet-up! It's always nice to actually meet fellow scs-ers!
OK... well this week I will drive out there and go check out some possible locations... there is a lot in the area; but I hate to choose something that will be too busy on a Saturday night... I think we could get a few people together for sure.
HOLY COW! it's that time of year again!?? wow this year has flown by. you all have to tell us all about it as soon as you get back! heck why wait? tell us about it while you're there !
I am going with the owner of the Memories From the Heart, a scrapbook store in Delavan, WI. I work there part time. This will be my second CHA and I can't wait. We are going Thurs. through Sun. See you there!
I would love to go as a demo for all those cute make-n-takes they have. Wish I had a connection to get hired! Got to go to Anaheim and boy was that inspiring and completely fun!
Yes I am going, we travel from Scotland on Tue so I should be ready to shop as soon as it opens, no workshops for me as DH is with me and as its my first time, yipe I am a CHA virgin LOL. I think I will need all my time to do the show.
Can you girls tell me what Craft Critique is?
Is no one getting excited about CHA?
3 weeks and I will be there* jumps up and down*
are any of the girls who are going doing classes?
This is my fist trip and I wonder how busy the classes are or should I just settle for make and takes around the show.
Any tip and advice would be great as I am sure lots of silly things will be learnt on this first trip .
Are there any spoilers about yet?
I'm super excited about CHA (not attending :( ) & all the new goodies!!!
Here are some tips I gathered (from 2ps) with regards to what to take along to MemoryTrends in October '06...should be applicable to CHA, too. Now, these are from a retailer's perspective. My added comments are in purple italics.
Quote:
Water (if you can bring your own it will save you time in line and lots of money, average cost $3 per bottle)
Mini stapler I didn't have a need for it, personally.
preprinted address labels/stickers for order forms. They save so much time and hand cramping.
clipboard You can even decorate it ;) A mini clipboard would be great!
small notebook for ideas, list of booths to see, etc. I never travel anywhere without a small notebook! Beats writing things down on bits of paper which might get lost.
calculator (for those late night order forms back at the hotel)
chocolate (there is usually plenty around the booths but I bring some anyway for energy boosts) (Energy bars!)
your own business cards and a credit letter for new companies with store logo, bank info, list of companies you do business with, store pic, website, etc.
a small empty suitcase if you're flying for all the catalogs, etc. I used to pack clothes in small case and put small case into larger case on the way to the show so I only had to deal with one bag on the way there.
My tips:
Comfy shoes!!! A *must*! I saw lots of people wearing those Crocs. And if you can find them, the Mary-Jane Crocs are quite cute.
Peppermint foot lotion (for example - the Body Shop's own) !!! Dude, your feet will be sore at the end of a loooooooong day!
I brought my carry-on, rolling suitcase to the show to stuff all the catalogues & schwag I was getting. They get to be quite heavy! Many people had these (or any other bag on wheels).
Hi-liter...to highlight, on the map, the booths which you don't want to miss.
Most of the big booths have cool make'n'takes - get there early before they run out of supplies!
Check out booths with 'bigger' ticket items...like all those die-cutting machines. And ask questions as to which materials can be used...cutting surface...dies... I wish I had done more of this, because it's a great opportunity to see what's on the market all in one spot and to start comparing them.
If you have time, check out one of the local scrapbooking/stamp stores. Check their website to see if they have any specials or classes during CHA. Print out directions ahead of time or email them and ask.
I think that's all. I brought along my digi camera and my iBook so that I could upload my pics - I took *tonnes* of pics. For me, MemoryTrends was overwhelming, being my 1st show! I now have a better idea as to which booths I want to check out next year.

Three weeks to day we will be there* jumps up and down again*, what a lot of excerise I am getting these days LOL, not sure if I will get out and about to the local stores as we are not hiring a car. Would love to do a troll dash around the big ones M's & J's, will wait and see.
Going to track down small business, SAHM type of thing as I know that they take care of their customers better than the big guys IYKWIM
