Default providing envelopes

hello,

I am just curious for those who are demos or have parties- do you usually provide envelopes? The demos I have seen don't, but when I had a party, I purchased envelopes to give to all the guests. A2 size is NOT common, and regular houses don't have them laying around!
The reason I am asking is cuz I am in charge of a Mother/Daughter craft night and I am doing six cards. The most expensive part is providing the envelopes! And we are not charging, so I am "donating" them.... But, I know, my sisters have been to stamping events and made cards, and if they weren't given an envelope, they either did not use the card or made me provide one.

Any thoughts on the subject?

Anne

I always provide envelopes. To me it's just part of the card and makes sense to include it, ya know?

I personally do provide the envelopes for the cards we make at my stamp camps. I know that some do not. The reasoning I have heard is that they don't expect them to actually use the card, but to keep it as a sample for making their own cards. I want my customers to actually use the cards they make at my classes, so I go ahead and provide the envelopes. However, I do also charge a fee to cover the cost of the supplies used for the class.

Do you have to provide SU envelopes or could you use the ones from Wal-Mart?

When I do a FunShop with free Make-n-Take, I do not. When I have a class, Stamp-a-Stack, or Stamp Camp, (they pay to come) etc., then I do provide envies.

If I were a demo, I would purchase cheap envelopes for a large gathering. When doing a small workshop, I might show the guests the difference in quality between SU and cheap stuff to encourage sales.

If I am selling cards to individuals, I provide them with an envelope because like you said, they are not a common size envelope. If I'm doing 'make n takes' I do not provide one....... hope this helps!

I appreciate the replies! Since it is a church activity, I don't want to charge a fee this time- I think of it as a donation on my part. I do plan on using the cheapest ones I can buy- but I haven't seen A2 at walmart...

they do have them at walmart... they have a box of white or a box of pastel.

The white ones have 60 in a box and are around $3.7?. They are by Ampad and are called white invitation envelopes. Not sure about # and cost of pastels.

I was pondering the same thing too. I was planning on handing them out at my workshops.... but I am having hosting my first party in a couple of weeks and am hoping for about 20-30 people. I was going to make 2 cards each... So should I hand out the envelopes too?

You can order a box of like 200-250 invitation envelopes from quill.com for about 9.99 ~ I got a box of those and they are fairly nice.

I provide envleopes at my clubs because they are required to make a purchase. Any paid event I would also provide envelopes since they paid to attend.

I provide envelopes, but I use the Wal-Mart invitations envelopes. I use SU envies when I send out my personal cards, but I just can't justify giving those away for free.

I like to match/stamp my envies to match my cards and my friends have come to "expect" that. I hate when I go to my demo's camps and she does not provide and envie.

Definitely provide them with an envelope! Save your receipt and take it off on your taxes as a charitable deduction!

My demo always provides envelopes with all of her events, even the free ones. Sometimes they are not SU (don't tell on her, please!) I often don't take one on purpose to save her a few bucks, though! I have a small Walmart and even they have this size in white and pastel. Good luck!

For me its a depends. A larger Stamp Camp or Stamp A Stack I will provide them. I'm able to find A2 size envelopes at Walmart, Target, Office Max, Staples etc. You might want to try online - maybe there is a deal you can find there. I also have the luxury of having Anchor Paper Express in town so when I need a bunch I run there and pick some up.

Happy Stamping and Scrapping

Just a quick correction, lol. Sorry. I am an accountant. It goes on your statement of professional activities on your personal tax return. It would get bumped out for charitable deductions since it doesnt have a charitable registration #.

my demo always provides envies. She uses the clear envelopes- those are cheaper. I think if you are wanting to sell your product you should use SU envelopes. For the first several years of stamping I only bought envelopes from my demonstrator- i didn't know there were others! Now I buy cheap envelopes but I buy a lot from my demo so I don't feel so bad.

If they pay for the event then yes I do provide the envelopes but just a regular make and take I do not.

it is my belief that a card is not complete without a matching envelope!!!

my demo has now realized how obsessed i am about the envelopes so...
at card club each month- she doesn't supply envelopes (i bring my own)
BUT
at a stamp a stack- she provides envelopes.

hope this helps!!!

oh yea- and when i have a SU! party... I provide the envelopes!

I enjoy getting the envelope, because I can stamp it to match. That is always a nice touch.

I have gone to parties with several demos-when one gave me clear envies I just had to buy more.

Hi Krysta!
Excuse me, but she never said she was a demo and she is not listed as being a demo on this website. She is donating the envelopes to her church, so now how should they be listed on her tax form? I donate a lot of stuff and I just save the receipts and add them all up and keep them forever and have been doing this for years and have never been audited yet!

Before becoming a Demo, I never got envelopes from any of the workshops (various demos) I attended, so I do not give them out. I hope they use the cards they make as samples and inspiration. I do however, put all their cut pieces for the cards we are doing in a clear cello bag so they have something to take their cards home with.

When I lived in the States and attended the SU! partys/workshops non of the Demos provided envelopes... I wish they had! Makes it more complete, I think.
Like momis mama said, a card is not complete with a matching envelope.

My demo and her upline do not provide envelopes, but we only pay $8 for a 2 hour workshop to make 4 cards. Purchases are not expected at these workshops.

If your Walmart doesn't have the envelopes, try looking for a local paper warehouse - I get my envelopes from them in boxes of 250, cheap.

When I do a workshop I usually put all the pieces of paper for the project the guests need in an envelope. That way I know they have what they need and it's less waste than if I just set out a stack of papers. So they do get envelopes. I do the same with make 'n takes at an event.

For affordable envelopes look here: http://www.clearbags.com/?category|ENVCOLS. You can get a box of 1000 (quite nice!) for $26. I've never seen a better price anywhere. If you don't need 1000, go in on it with a friend or 2.

Wal-Mart envelopes are $.07 each. These are $.025 each. Less than 1/2 the price.

My friend said that the other day when she was taking almost all the cards we'd made @ Stamp Club over a year or so and giving them to her mom for Mother's Day. Her mom always wanted a big pack of cards, but all different...well, we all know how hard it is to sit down and make 40 different cards, so this was perfect! But they didn't have envelopes. My friend had envelopes because we buy them @ Kelly Paper (really nice invitation ones, that are about $30 for 250), but some of the cards used Very Vanilla CS and she didn't want to put those in white envies. So I gave her some Very Vanilla ones and then she was sad that all the envies couldn't be stamped to match the cards. But I don't have all the same sets my demo has (mainly because she's a close friend, so we just borrow from each other....so if 1 buys the set, the other usually doesn't KWIM?) so we just went with plain envies. I don't expect my demo to provide them for free, but I think maybe having them there....available for a nominal fee? Some people NEVER send/use cards they make-n-take or make @ Stamp Club, but a lot do. This would give the option. I don't know...or just tell people to buy a pack of each color envelope!

My demos have always provided envelopes. The cards would be unusable without them and I appreciate this thoughtfulness. She gives us a choice of white ones from Walmart or clear ones that she gets from the Amber Shaw website.

I always provide envelopes - be it a paid event or a make and take...

a stamped envelope adds that finishing touch...

I don't use SU envelopes - I buy mine from www.clearbags.com (ashley envelopes)

My demo usually gives us envelopes and also has at least one VELLUM envelope for us to take. Invariably, even tho we stamp together every six weeks and all know she is THE stampin up lady, one of our small group will ask... "Where did you get these nice envelopes?"

They just "feel" so much better and so different from the ones I stockpile from Walmart. Because I am cheap, I haven't priced them out to truly compare costs side by side, but that might be something for a demo to do, also showing how much more "stampable" they are for a complete card/envy product.

thanks so much everyone!! I love hearing everyone's experiences. I am of the mind it isn't complete without the envelope, so I also appreciate the tips on where to purchase them too!!

Has anyone purchased from Paper.com? They have sets of 250 for less then 10 dollars...

I always provide SU envelopes at workshops and classes. If it's a workshop and we're doing 2 cards, I will provide 1 clear envelope and one normal envelope to match the card (white, vanilla, natuarls ivory, etc.). I love the quality of Stampin' Up! envelopes and I want everyone at the class or workshop to feel the quality for themselves. Also, as an SU demo, I am contractually obligated not to use competitive products at Stampin' Up! events. But honestly, since I became a demo I only use SU envelopes, even for my personal cards. I just like them a lot better than the cards from Wal-art.

I haven't been to that many SU parties, but have been buying SU for many years now and you know, I have never bought any SU envelopes except the 3 x 3 envelopes, which I can't find anywhere else. I think that if I were to be given a SU envelope to compare to the cheap Staples ones I have been using I bet I would start buying SU envelopes too..lol. I think this demo nailed it on the head when she says that everyone can feel the quality, I never knew there was a difference between SU paper and other cardstock till I was given some to play with, from then on I went exclusively with SU paper!

I do all the time and I encourage them to decorate each envelope to match the card. Not a lot but enough to spruce it up a bit.

I get my envies from Staples or Officemax. $6-8 for 100. I give them at my workshops.
