Default Overwhelmed

I am totally new to this and have gone to 3 SU demonstrations now and I love it! The problems come when I sit down to work on a card and get totally overwhelmed. Is it just me?

Also, when people post their cards..is there a place I can go and see instructions on how they made them? Just curious!

No, it's not just you! I think all stampers get overwhelmed sometimes. I like to get inspiration from other cards, but rarely copy exactly. Choose one card type or style and go from there.

I don't think that the gallery posts have instructions step by step, but some do have little notes to let you in on how some of it was done.

Remember to have fun!

Welcome to the wonderful world of stamping! Usually I start with a sample I've seen, and either copy it outright or tweak it to my liking (and the content of my stamp collection).

Some folks are kinda bad about it, but usually you can find the recipe for a card posted under the image in the person's gallery if you click on the thumbnail image.

It is overwhelming but just remember this is supposed to be fun and if you're not having fun you're not doing it right!!

Everyone here seems more than willing to give you instructions for cards if you ask!

I so agree - all the ideas can be overwhelming. But remember, creative people love to share their ideas - so ask as many questions as you want. This is such a fabulous website and you'll be posting your own original ideas before you know it!

YES.... it can overwhelm you as a beginer (I'm stamping only a year)
I find sometimes that if I keep them simple and basic...maybe some eyelets, or a layer or two...maybe a simple bow...they turn out BEAUTIFUL!!
I go to workshops often (held by my demo) to learn new and different techniques. This really has taught me alot. I got alot of great ideas looking at the gallery here!!! (SOME REALLY GREAT STUFF) .....In fact I havn't left this wesite since I joined the other night.
Anyway my advice is keep it simple to start, and have FUN !!!

Hi alih7378,

If there's a particular card that you would like to know about, just use that member's PM button next to one of her/his posts. Ask away! So many of our members are happy to help & will share their tips on a particular idea.

Enjoy! ~TexasGrammy

That's so normal!!! I think I am just now able to really sit down and make something entirely on my own. It's easier for some than others. I usually start with a few ideas to CASE then work on things I have thought of or variations that I want to try. My sister can just whip things up....she's just more creative like that. I love doing it and if I never get to that point, that's ok....I am happy CASE'ing other stuff that I love. The people I give it to don't care if it's an original idea! You might also try a yahoo group like SUrubberartscans or something like that because they will post cards with "recipes." Or just pm the person who made something you like and ask them how they did it. It's always flattering when someone wants to make something you did.

Emily's sister here... Piping in to add the truth: But half of my whipped up creations are ugly! LOL!

Seriously, I only like about half of the things i make.... if I CASE'd more and played less.... well, I'd have more stuff I like, but I like when I come up with an original idea.

But I also love sitting down with an image of someone's "proven-to-be-cute" card in my head and just stamping it

It is overwhelming when you are a beginner. I don't remember much back then except my cards were simple and quick. I now spend more time on them and still do some quick ones but like to add all the cool embelishments like ribbon, fiber, eyelets... etc. on the cards now. If you see a card you like in the gallery just pm them and they will probably tell you how it is made. I just had someone do that for my jr. legal pad and I was more than happy to tell them how to make it.

I loften ook at the catty over and over again, get an idea from an idea, often the card never looks anything like the sample, I just need a starting point. - I may use different colour scheme, different stamp set, etc, but something will spark the creativity.

Default overwhelmed

We all started somewhere.....i can remember my first cards weren't even colored in.....now I can't seem to stop! If you need any directions on how to do some cards or ideas....just ask. I can only speak for myself, but I love to share with everyone....and when asked I do just that. We all get stuck for ideas now and then, even well seasoned stampers, that's what sites like this are for.
Hope this helps.
