I have never used a wheel stamp before. Since the retired list came out, I've been looking at them for the first time. Do you like them? Love them? What do you think of them, generally? I'm trying to decide if I should invest in a few of the retired. I thought that 'Pines' one for Xmas would be nice......
The wheels make wonderful little "fillers" for cards. Run the wheel on the cs, then use a coordinating image as your focal point. I especially like the leaves, viny things, etc. Some of the jumbo wheels are very nice and work well as a focal image.
It also pays to get the ink cartridges. Less frustrating, but more of an investment.
Like you, I haven't bought any and may be in the minority here. My demo demos them occasionally, and I'm just never happy with the results as I seem to get ink on the flashing and all over my project--and I'm a bit AR-OC about that sort of thing, LOL! I'm tempted to buy one though (think it's called rough texture), unmount it, and use it as a regular bg stamp. There's an old thread on here about that, and I do love the texture of that wheel for guy cards particularly.
Maybe you can borrow someone's to play with for a bit and get a feel for yourself. It's so funny how one person can love, love, love something and the next person will hate, hate, hate it, LOL! Nothing beats hands-on experience with a product to know which camp you fall into.

I find the ink cartridges for the wheel much too heavy, I would much rather roll my wheels in my ink pads.You don't get half the mess and I love my wheels, they are great for backgrounds instead of large b/g stamps.
I use both the regular size and the jumbo wheels and have been using them for a long time, I love them, I always turn to them when I needed a background, especially when I had so much trouble using the bg stamps at first. Just get some that are versitale instead of themed unless you really like the wheel.

I like my wheels, although I dont use them often enough! I also just roll them over my ink pads as opposed to using the cartridges. I have a few cartridges (black, blue, red). I find it easier to use the ink pads. You just have to get used to using wheels and the pressure to put on them, but they do make great backgrounds etc.
I unmounted my newest jumbo and once I find an acrylic block big enough I know I'm going to use it as a stamp more often than I ever used any of my wheels! It always seems like a lot of work to get them going and they never ink properly for me.
I've bought several wheels, all 10 years ago. I don't like using them because I guess I apply uneven pressure always. It always takes me three or four times before I get it right (annoying!). I haven't bought a wheel since then. My demo has also demo'ed the new ones and for me it hasn't gotten better.
I have about 8 of them and have only used 1 of them once....and I ended up throwing that project away....i don't like them....never could get them to roll straight... i bought the Stampin Around and have never taken it out of the package. I never bought the jumbo wheels just the reg. size and the ink cartridges.
I just got into wheels this year. I love the jumbos, and the cartridges because I like make backgrounds for 12X12s. You need the wheel guide. I don't really care for the smaller wheels.
If you love one get it, but I am sure there will be lots more in next years catty.
I LOVE wheels. They add just the right, quick touch to some projects. I use them as BG a lot. I also would rather use them with an ink pad versus the ink cartridge.
I havent done this (yet!) but some on this board have unmounted the rubber from their wheel and either used a long acrylic block or put it onto wood. Maybe somebody while chime in with more info on that.
I really do like my wheels. I especially enjoy the "Pines" at Christmas. I have a few Christmas ornament stamps that I use and "hang" the ornaments from the pine branches. You can also make matching wrapping paper. I just use a ruler to help me guide it if I am doing a bigger project that a card. Hope this helps. Phyllis
