Right now I am reading Sala's Gift: My Mother's Holocaust Story. The author's mother never spoke of her story until the eve of her open heart surgery fifty years later. It focuses on a different aspect of the holocaust----labor camps, instead of concentration camps. In these camps, the inmates were actually involved in real work and treated fairly well (in comparison to those in concentration camps) and were fed. They were also allowed to send and receive mail, which plays an integral part of the book. This book is very captivating and it is very interesting to read the letters mailed to Sala.
