I'm thinking of ordering these from SU but wanted to find out how everyone likes them. Are they a lot different than regular ink pads? What is the difference? When would you choose to use these versus the regular ink pads? Just curious. Thanks in advance for your input, opinions, etc.! : )
I only have the Petal Point ee/rr chalk petals. I love them!!
They have very vibrant, yet soft colors - very rich. the ink is very matte - no shine whatsoever, no matter what paper you use, and they are very opaque.

I have the Bold Brights/Soft Subtles and I second everything Inky Fingers said. They work really well with solid image stamps (easier to ink up). I also made a card with the Crinkled chalks technique and it came out really great. Hope this helps, I'm looking forward to getting the EE/RR this fall.
I'll echo what others have said - I LOVE the chalk inks! I don't think I will ever go back to classic inks for solid images again. They cover much better and the look is fantastic.
I haven't heard of anyone who has used these who hasn't liked them.
I don't have the Petal Points chalk pads - but they've been added to my wish list! Do have several Antiquities chalk pads from Ranger that I've had for several years & haven't had to reink them yet (store them upside down). They are beautifully soft & very versatile so I'm looking forward to ordering the SU petal point pads.
just a word of caution.. some of the colors in them will be retiring so you might want to wait until the new catty, hopefully they will redo the colors.

Colorbox is retiring some of their fluid chalk inks? Are you sure? What's your source? I don't see anything about it on their website.

They also are permanent once heat set so they are great for making tiles with. I use them for coloring in images all of the time. I pick up a little color with a q-tip and color away! I LOVE the chalk inks.

I love mine. You can use two similar colors to mimic shading. I made a tile trivet with them as a gift and people went crazy. I had to give it away before I could take a picture of it. I will be making more as soon as I get my refills. I have used them so much that I needed to buy the refill. I have a petal print card in my gallery if you want to see.
It only opens another thread about chalk ink? How was your test? Did you like the results or no?
Sorry, if you go to my post in that thread, I attached a picture comparing the chalk inks to classic on US White. And yes, they stamp really nice. Very solid and uniform, no blotchyness or lighter/darker spots. I think they might dry out faster, though, and I don't like the cover. The cover keeps touching the stamps and getting ink everywhere when I put it back on. The chalk inks also tend to look nice on black paper since they don't soak into the paper, but fry on top. Some colors are too dark to see. I would attach again, but I am not able to lately.

I still don't get it. The chalk inks you can buy through SU are the very same chalk inks you can get at any stamp store. They have nothing to do with SU inks and papers. As the two product lines are entirely different from each other, SU's colour change has nothing to do with chalk inks. I don't think twice about trying to match other brands to SU, I just use my eyes -- if it looks good, go with it.

The current sets that SU sells don't match the SU colors one for one. They do, however, coordinate with them. I hope the new catty adds a couple more sets with even more colors to choose from.
They dry much much quicker! You wouldn't be able to emboss them at all.
Actually, you can emboss them. They dry much faster than the SU! Craft Inks (or regular pigment ink for that matter) but they still dry a little slower than dye ink. I emboss with mine all the time. I don't have brown EP so I use the dk brown color to emboss when I don't want black. I wouldn't try to stamp a whole page and then come back and emboss it but if you stamp the image and then dump on the clear EP it will stick.
I have both colorbox sets. Love them. the look is softer and less vibrant. Have done the drunken chalks and the saran wrap background and have great success with my customers.
