How long do the ink pads last?

I'm new and just had my first stamping workshop. I used my classic Chocolate chip pad for two things the ladies made. I used the pad again today, and the pad seems like it needs more ink. There were only 6 people at the workshop - so I'm wondering if this is typical? Should I start getting reinkers for each of my pads that I use at workshops? Also the ends are starting to curl up. Do I have a defective pad - or is this part of letting lots of people use the pads?:confused:

I have had a Basic Black SU dye ink pad for almost a year now and it is still juicy. I use it almost every day, plus I used it to make over 100 thank you notes after my wedding.

Someone told me that they store their inkpads upside down to keep the ink towards the top of the pad. Haven't tried this though so I'm not sure.

The design of the SU ink pads already keep the pad upside down!! Cathy, I'd be surprised if your inkpad needed ink already unless it arrived with less ink than it should. Give it a day or so, try it again, then call Demo Support on Monday and tell them. Are you stamping with a new solid image stamp? If so, that might be the problem. Solid image stamps need to be roughed up a bit before they grab onto the ink - rub them on your jeans, go over it with a pencil eraser, or give it a good cleaning with your Scrub and Mist.

I have had lots of my pads for 3 years and most of them haven't needed reinking yet, and I use them for background stamps (lots of ink for some of those!) and Stamp Camps.

Thanks for the feedback. None of the images were big backgrounds. One was a roller pad. I'll try it again today and then contact Demonstrator Support. Your timeframe helps! Three years is a long time!!

I have a basic black and I was thinking the same thing. I haven't used it that much (bought it in December) and already the middle seems to be "dry". I have to try to get ink from the sides where there seems to be a lot of ink left, but the middle is not juicy at all! It's a SU stamp pad.

I've had most of my pads for 4+ years, and I just re-inked them in the last couple months.

I have been stamping for about 4 years, and I just recently had to reink my black. I use the black quite a bit as I like to color it images. I do notice some colors dont seem as juicy as others. Sometimes the pad just looks different on some colors. I would call if its out of ink already, thats not normal.

Another thing is make sure that people are not just going for the middle of the pad, that can cause problems.

I have had my SU ink pads for at least 3+ and just now thinking about reinking. When I was in Conn. last summer, in one of the craft stores I found a refresher that I used, which helps. The name of it is "Perfect Ink Refresher" by Ranger. I sprayed that on the ink pads last summer and it really helped. It says it is suitable for pigment and dye base ink pads, and water based markers. I even used it on some old markers I had and it worked. You might try that.

When I moved to Virginia from the much more humid climate of coastal Georgia, I found that my pads needed reinking much more frequently. Was the pad you used at the workshop a new one?

i find that the newer style pads (current ones) are much dryer when you 1st get them. i have some of both. the newer ones i have had to reink already and some of my older style ones i have had for 5+ years and have not reinked them. i prefer the older style so i won't get rid of them...unless of course they get rid of those colors! i started to buy the reinker when i order a pad because i always think they are dry.
