Default How do you clean your stamps????

I've ordered the stamp & Scrub thing..........but it's not in yet. I've been using baby wipes (alcohol free ones)...........are they going to ruin my stamps before i get the stamp & scrub in that i ordered?????

I just use an Old washcloth as my scrubber with my simple green mixture and water.
I keep the washcloth in one of the clam shell boxes. This way it doesn't make a mess on my stamping area.

i've never used baby wipes, but you are still gonna need a stamp cleaner with your pad. I always used the one from SU or just the cleaner from Michaels or Hobby Lobby until everyone said I had to have "Ultra Clean"!!!!! just got my two bottles yesterday!!! Can't wait to see the results!!!!! Thanks JulieHRR!!!!!

Ultra Clean is supposed to be the Ultimate Stamp Cleaner...or so it says on their label!!!! People swear by it...supposed to even clean Staz On from stamps..I haven't had a chance to use it yet...hopefully tomorrow.... I got mine from www.addictedtorubberstamps.com
However...someone said it took the ink stain off the wood from their stamp...I did try that...didn't happen...still stained wood...but I'll try it on my rubber tomorrow!

Babywipes when I'm using the "craft" stamp pads (as they are pretty gummy, leaving way too much residue on stamppad scrub.....never had an issue with them. Thinking easy and kind on my baby's butt, good enuff for da' rubbah.;)

I use SU mist for regular everyday cleaning, but when I use Stazon or I want to get a stain off of rubbah I use ultra clean...

After hearing everyone gushing over this stamp cleaner in another thread I bought 2 huge refill bottles. And I don't really like it. :( Yes it cleans the stamps really really well. It got old Stazon stains off my stamps, but it also took my fingernail polish off after I had a manicure. The oily residue bothers me and if your scrub pad isn't fresh it will still stamp off brownish/black. I think I'm going to try and return the unopened bottle.

Alcohol, fragrance free baby wipes are fine. I typically use the Stampin' Mist from Stampin' Up with the Stampin' Scrub. Yeah you have to clean them cuz there gets to be a lot of ink in those little buggers. I need to be better about cleaning mine (have 2). I also just bought some Ultra Clean cuz I've heard good things about it and I have stayz-on cleaner for stubborn stains.

Does the Stampin Mist still smell like, well, I won't say specific examples, but generally something unpleasant?

I buy stamp cleaner wipes at Michael's and use those all the time. I don't like the scrubber pads...I've used them at friends' houses and they always seem to make a mess of my stamps- you have to keep the pads super clean or the wood gets really stained from the pad. The wipes I buy are inexpensive and clean really well...oh, and if anyone drops an opened black ink pad into their lap- just spray the stain really well with Shout, let it sit overnight, spray well again and wash and the black ink comes out! Uh, I won't tell you WHO did that!

I use Stampin' Mist and the Scrub to clean the smaller stamps. Stazon cleaner when I use that type of ink and for my Background stamps I spray the Stampin' Mist onto them and use a washcloth to clean off the ink. I have read about using Baby wipes but have never tried it, a demo friend of mine uses them and swears by them.

I use diluted Simple Green and my stampin scrub. I tried Ultra Clean, and it does work, but I don't like the oily residue it leaves on my scrub. And it's pretty expensive.

Simple Green is awesome--cheap, still gets my old Staz-On stains off, but doesn't make everything (including my hands) oily.

What is Simple Green? I also noticed that Close to My Heart has a cleaner for Staz On. I have some Staz On but have been afraid to use it because of cleaning. I also read a thread some time ago about a product called Awesome that can be bought at Dollar Tree. What is the difference between these three?

Default Simple Green

Simple Green is an inexpensive cleaner that you should be able at get at Dollar General. I haven't used it myself, but a relative swears by it for laundry and other stains. Never thought to use it on stamps - will have to try that.

I had the opportunity to try the simple green this weekend. I am happy with the results and I'm ever so happy that it is very very cheap.
If you can't find it in the cleaning aisle of your stores, try the car aisle. It's there too.

Hello - To clean off any permanent ink I use Judikins Fabric & Permanent Ink Cleaner available at your LSS. My Stazon cleaner never removes anything that I can tell - Judikins DOES! Also I don't think there is any greasy residue but it does have some odor to it. For cleaning Pigment ink like Stampin' Up craft ink I use the Stampin' Up Stampin' Mist. It's great for craft ink not so great for permanent ink like Basic Black, Basic Brown or Stazon. I'm going to try this simple green too. I'm a S' Up Demonstrator and after my workshops I always clean all my stamps usually with the Judikins. I may not get it done that night but it still cleans up the next day.

I use the Target brand baby wipes and they take off all of the black stazon ink from my stamps. I do however wipe them off immediately after I stamp with them. I just love how well they clean my stamps and the convenience of them.

When you use the Simple Green, be sure to dilute it.:-) I use mine strong--1/3 Simple Green, 2/3 water, with a squirt of glycerin. Some people dilute a lot more, but this is the strength that takes off StazOn stains for me.

I'm so glad you posted this 'recipe'! I have a lot of stained stamps - some from when I first started stamping and didn't know any better and some purchased online. I'll have to give this a try. Thanks a bunch!

Oh, by the way... I use an alcohol free baby wipe when I'm doing a lot of stamping but always finish up with my stampin' mist and stampin' scrub. My stamps stay pretty clean now! :-)

I recently switched over the Ultra Clean. i bought my bottle from Inky Antics. It does clean like a champion! No more Stazon stains on any of my stamps.

It does leave the oily residue on the stamp and the scrub pad, however I feel like the residue on the stamp will help keep the rubber from drying out. I think of it like rubbah treatment.

As for the scrub - I just wash the pad more often now.

I use Awesome, diluted 1/3 to 2/3 water (from the Dollar store) for permanent ink, and if, for some reason, the stain is stubborn, Judkins Permanent Ink remover ALWAYS works. For colored craft inks, I use a 1/3 Windex or similar glass cleaner to 2/3 water , and this works well. I have a scrub pad for permanent ink removal and another one for colored craft inks.

Sorry, I am an SU demo but that Stampin' Scrub and Stampin' Mist don't cut it IMHO. I dislike the hassle of constantly washing the scrub pads. The smell is no bonus, either.

For classic and pigment inks I use Softsoap or glycerin soap, water and an old toothbrush. I do try to keep the water off the wood and foam as much as possible. I wash them quickly and dry with an old dish towel. I have been doing this for years and my stamps have not been harmed in any way.

For the permanent inks, Stazon and other tough inks, I use Ranger Cleans It or Judikins. I don't like to use chemicals and I don't like the smell, etc. but I do NOT like stained stamps.

I will try Simple Green, but is that some kind of chemical, too? And has a cleaning product odor?

Great subject.

Simple Green smells kinda like PineSol, but not as strong, IMO. Smells are pretty subjective, I guess. :-) It's labeled as "non-toxic and bio-degradable." I have asthma, and it is one cleaner that doesn't bother me. It's a degreaser--really powerful cleaner. I use it to clean my permanent dust filter on my AC/furnace, and it works *and* doesn't give me a headache.

I bought mine at Home Depot--Windex-sized bottle for $5. You dilute it a *bunch*, so it was a great deal. We have used it on everything since--including mopping the kitchen floor--and we still have half a bottle left. LOL

I decided to check out Simple Green on their website (http://consumer.simplegreen.com/). They claim it to be a "environmentally-sensitive non-toxic cleaner/degreaser" and "biodegradable." I also saw that it comes in wipes. Has anyone tried the SG wipes for stamp cleaning???

Default Glycerin

Where in the drugstore do you find the glycerin to make your own stamp cleaner? I've asked in Rite Aid and CVS and the salesclerks don't even know what it is. I've looked up and down the aisle but couldn't find it. Help!

How did you make out with the Ultra Clean? Where do you get that? Do you have to order online or can you get it at any of the craft stores? I have just been using SU mist.

I basically use Simple Green and mix it with water (1/2 & 1/2) in a little spray bottle and I use SU clean pads along and some times my wash cloth works better. I also have SU cleaner (but I think it's kind of pricey) but works great. You can find Simple Green at Home Depot or even at the grocery markets in my area. Try it, I think you'll like it!

Thanks Calley. I didn't even think about asking the pharmacist.

Good luck! It comes in a gallon size at Home Depot! It lasts forever! Just make sure that you mix it with water because it is some strong stuff! I still use babywipes for cleaning my scissor (from all the glue gunk from the stamp sets) and stuff like that..so keep those on hand as well!
