use for empty plastic stamp containers

I have just purchased the new plastic case with dividers for my alphabet stamps and now I have these empty containers. My question is does anyone have any good use for them? We are having a yard sale Saturday and I don't know whether I should save them or just sell them. Any help you great and creative ladies can offer would be greatly appreciated!!!

Don't sell them! I use them to hold random accessories like stamping sponges, sponge daubers, all the white and light colored crayons I steal from my kids for doing Crayon Resist, the left over rubber from trimming your stamps, etc.

Containers can be used for Marbleing technique.Attach 4 1/4x5 1/2 glossy card stock to inside cover with Hermafix. Place 6 drops of Classic ink refill in bottom of container with 4 marbles. Close container and gently shake marbles over ink drops for a few seconds. Turn container upside down and quite vigorously shake container side to side. Do this with three colors or however many you need for a satisfactory effect.

I should have siad to use three containers with three colors or you can use one containers and clean it three times. Only one color in container at a time.

Great topic! I would like to see what all others use them for.

After the convention swap, I got a lot of scraps of the same color so I am storing them all in one of the big plastic cases.

The small one fits the Stampin Spots well and I take it to my workshops like that. I tell my guests that they come in a cardboard box but this is way easier to show case them.

You can tell I am not too creative in coming up with my usage....

Thanks for the suggestions. I think that I will hold on to them longer and see what I can come up with. I knew that there was a good use for them, my brain just wasn't being creative enough!

I use mine to hold my embossing powders when I use them. That way I don't have to be too careful with my shaking and I don't lose any.

I just used them today to get ready for a workshop. I have 4 cards I'm demonstrating. Each box has cardstock paper, stamp(s) and pad(s) along with ribbon or what ever else I need ready to go. It helps me LOOk organized.

One large plastic container will hold 12 reinkers, I have all my Soft Subtles in one, and am working on all the other sets of reinkers!! I'm more than halfway there I also use a large one to store all my Sharpies in, for when I stamp on tiles. Easy access, keep it with the stamps! I use two for the marbelling technique (good directions Yvonne!) I haven't used it w/glossy c/s yet, but my upline taught me that technique at Convention after we got our new sets. We bought marbles and I brought my reinkers, it was a fun "hotel room" project!! I also was **VERY** glad I had a few extras here because I took several stamp sets to Convention with me, so I could make more card fronts. They sat in the car, in my suitcase, they day we checked in, but they STILL got warped! All the cases were hopelessly ruined, but the stamps were fine. They weren't in the sun at all, the heat just got the cases. I was happy I had all but a couple that I needed, so now I only have those to replace. You could probably keep all the fibers in one large case, too, as well as the smaller embossing powders. So many uses! Don't throw them out!!

Great ideas ladies...but I have a question...why do you save the disgarded rubber from cutting out your stamp sets? What do you use this for?

I use those glad storage containers for my embossing powder. I add a small plastic spoon to the box and close it up...it works great, and is easy and not so messy.

I use the plastic boxes for small stamps I receive from workshops, and to hold fibers and embellishments.

I have used them to hold the brass templates, labeled the end. Also used it recently to transport my swap cards to our group meeting, kept them all nice and neat. I wouldn't get rid of them, I'm sure you will find some use for them.

What you do is use the foam like Stampin' Dimensionals. You just don't peel off the rubber until you're ready to use it because it will expose the adhesive that holds the foam to the rubber.

I save my bigger pieces and use those when I run out of Dimensionals or when I am making a lot of swaps.

This was from a back issue Stampin' Success or an awesome demonstrator somewhere:

I place a few big scraps in a pretty dish with the craft & rubber scissors. I invite (new) customers to sample cutting the rubber.

This solves 2 issues: (1) aleviates newbie fear of cutting rubber when they go to to trim & mount their stamps; and (2) sells the scissors!

Some save the smaller scraps, peel the rubber from the foam and use the foam like stampin' dimensionals.

For last year, I took my circle punches and punched out circles from the stamp excess. I used the small circles, 1/8, 1/16th, etc. Stampin Up didn't have any bubble stamps, and I couldn't use the one from Fish Frolics any more because it retired. So, I punched them, mounted them on the side of one of my Fishy Friends stamps, and made my own bubbles. That way, when we did a Fishy Friends shaker card, we could stamp the circle from Little Shapes on it, and my small homemade bubbles. This year, we have stamps that will do that VERY nicely with Simple Shapes!

I also cut a tiny star w/my exacto knife, and mounted it on the "Cute As A Bug" stamp, where the bug is holding a little star. I would use that extra star to versamark and emboss the inside of it, or would use Heat N Stick and adhere glitter to it. I was happy I had some bigger pieces to use for doing things like that!!

You can also use extra rubber scraps to create an awesome mosaic background stamp - just get your own block of wood and mount the scraps in a pattern of your choosing!

I just bought some empty cases to use as gift boxes for sets of cards. Did that make sense? I am making sets of cards as gifts for Christmas this year and I am going to place each set in a plastic SU stamp holder. I am planning on decorating them somehow too...

Uses for empty stamp cases:

*use for storing brass templates, wax paper & stylus

*use for storing shaving cream papers, bubble papers, polished stone papers

*use for workshops - I put everything needed for each project in a separate case

*use for storing eyelet tools

*use for storing collection of personalized stamps (I have 3)

*use for storing rubber scraps to pass around at workshops for customers to test C&R scissors & practice cutting correctly before having "real" stamps to mount (avoids screw ups)

*use to pack small items when traveling (stamping, of course )

*some stamp sets come in HUGE cases & when mounted will fit in a smaller case - good to have extras on hand!

*Until I got my storage unit form www.suink.net (thanks Denise!), I stored my hemp in one, narrow organdy in another (didn't have much ribbon)

*use to take card samples to meetings....keeps them clean & neat

*use to store marbles, magnets, premo clay, paperclay, other fun things to stamp on

*use the xl or jumbo to store markers or colored pencils

*use to store new pearlex containers

*use to store sponges &/or sponge daubers

*anything else you can think of!

I use similar boxes to the SU stamp containers to store ribbon. I don't stick to SU products and have accumulated A LOT of ribbon and fibres and raffia and... well you know how it is. So in a rare moment of organisation last weekend I sorted them all into clear plastic boxes - one for each colour scheme. In theory they should be much easier to use now.

As for rubber scraps - I throw them away; they're too sticky for me! But great idea to keep them if you're a demo to let people practise on. Cutting rubber for the first time is SCARY :shock:

There is always something to do with unused items, I bet you are glad you asked.

It's been very interesting to read all these things.

I use mine for storage- tags, eyelets, buttons, markers, by color family- its easy to pick up and take with you to home demo./ party.

I use mine for holding misc. stamps from other non-SU companies and label them on the front so I know where to go for a special stamp. I also use mine to hold misc fibers and ribbons, buttons, snaps, etc. They best use I've found for them is holding my punched out shapes. I punch my shapes from my scraps of cardstock all the time and then put them through my xyron and then in cases with labels so I know which ones I want and they're ready for my cards and scrapbook pages. I haven't got the divided cases yet....that might be the ticket for all those punched shapes as well. They might fit more of many different shapes in one case.

I use my plastic containers for my cardstock scraps. One is for greens, another for the blues, and so on. I keep them stacked upright in a basket next to my desk for easy access. Works well for me...

I have accidently stepped on/squashed two of my plastic boxes and got the replacements right here on SCS. (Thanks again, Joy!) I would definitely save any extras I might have for that occasion if nothing else!

You can use the extra rubber for so many cool things. I got the suggestion from here to cut out an exact circle to go in the middle of Love Without End flower, in case you don't want to use the "love" or "thank you" circle. I also used the middle of the around and about stamps to make similar stamps to the alpha shadows, a set I didn't get! I have used the middle of the large heart in Sketch It for a solid heart, the middle of the Quilts Give Comfort rectangle for a solid rectangle, etc. etc. My husband cut me up an assortment of pieces of wood to use for my homemade stamps! He has made me a star and a couple of other stamps himself out of my spare rubber pieces, which he got a big kick out of himself. Fun! Fun!

I save the waxed paper that the stamp stickers come on and stick the excess rubber on it to store it. The sheets stack neatly and are easy to store for future use.

I to use them for extra NON-SU stamps and I also use them when I do bleaching projects. I put a lightly dampened paper towel with bleach inside a container while bleach with stamps. Very little mess and safer than damaging my clothing.

OK, maybe I missed something here, but why do some of you have so many empty stamp boxes left over? What divided cases are you talking about? I haven't ordered the new alpha stamps yet, so maybe you're talking about new packaging with that, but I'm a little lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kiki

Hi Kiki. As demonstrators we can now order some cases that are divided for the alphabet stamps. The divided cases also come with any alphabet stamp set that you purchase. By ordering them and putting the alphabet stamps in the new divided containers we have the original containers left over. I hope this helps.
