Girls gone retro!
Okay, who's totally into the retro style like me? I can't get enough of it....paper, alphabet sets, shape sets, girlfriend sets, pink and black!! I'm thinking of doing an evening workshop called "Girls Gone Retro" and all projects will be totally cool. Only the "hip at heart" can attend. Any suggestions for food and attire at this party?

Which era? 50's? 60's? 70's? 80's? or 90's?

Michelle, where are you from. If you were close enough, I would come. That sounds like way too much fun and nowadays we just can't get enough fun.

I'm from a small, tiny town in Kansas. We built a new house and moved back home next to my parents so our kids could go to a small school. When I mention retro around here, no one knows what I'm talking about. I tell them.....just look at your home decor and that's it. Nothing's changed but I love the small town atmosphere. Maybe that's why I love the retro stuff...I'm kinda nostalgic that way. I get my fix by "going to the city" with my SU workshops. You all are welcome to road trip to my house and we'll party retro style!!
I did a search on the internet using "retro style" and there are tons of cool websites out there.
I'm thinking 50's style....maybe diner food like cheeseburger and fries, shish kabobs, banana splits, pickles and condiments and retro style candy and Coca Cola! The party stores carry those red and white checked paper plate things. Ask everyone to wear a modern version of pink and black. Oh you've all got to come!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 50's when the TV dinner came out? I'm thinking late 50's here.

I love the new diner set! I want to get it, just to own it, but not sure what I would do with it....I love the fork and spoon!
My brother has a fork and spoon tatooed around his neck. Is that retro??

The diner set, love it but don't have it. That would be perfect on the invitation! I thought it would be cute to use the shish kabob with a saying like "Shish! I almost missed your birthday!" Get it?

That sounds like fun!
It scared me though that someone mentioned the 80's as retro...I'm not ready for the 80's to be retro yet!

Count me in! I am loving the retro stuff. Hard to tell what years it really is, but I'm thinking late 50's-early 60's when design was "atomic". I also love the diner set, but wasn't sure what to do with it. And what about "Jazzed UP"? Love that set also for the retro feel. Wish I was closer - I'd love to attend.
Hey - Calif gals - maybe we should have a retro party too?????

Great party plans! Gotta make meatloaf! And wear a dress with pearls. And an apron. Have to wear an apron. Or wear "pedal pushers" and a tight sweater. But still wear an apron! Coffee cakes were served when the ladies got together for coffee in the morning. I'll keep thinking and I may have one myself!

Has anyone ever seen that movie "Blast from the Past"? It has Alicia Silverstone and that guy who played George of the Jungle! But the really hilariuos part is Sissy Spacek as the Mom and Christopher Walken as the Dad....it's an absolute scream!

Remember the Jello with fruit cocktail and whipped cream topping. Can't have a 50's/60's meal without that.

Sounds like a blast! YES, about the Jell-o....in a ring mold OR layered in a wine glass. (Does anyone remember "Jell-0 1, 2, 3" from 1970 or so that separated into layers in a wine glass, or is it just me? Or that canned "Fruit Float" that you added milk to and then it turned into this gelatinous yummy slop after it was refrigerated?........Okay, I am regressing and am also dating myself!)
First thing I thought of when I read "retro" was a soda fountain....maybe make REAL cherry and vanilla cokes with syrups?
Card idea: Stamp the "Girlfriends" in a poodle-type skirt...sunglasses......red tube of lipstick.....use thin organdy to tie little "scarves" around their necks or on their ponytails....(Or is that the Pocket Fun girl with the ponytail?) Turn those girls to the 50's!
Melissa
P.S....I agree, that retro 80's pic screams of Duran Duran's "Rio"....Simon LeBon in his little suit on that sailboat........

I just watched "13 goingon 30" with my 15yr old daughter. I laughed until I cried at the Michael Jackson "Thriller" dance!!
If you couldn't tell, I'm a major movie buff!
