Start with an 8 1/2 square. Score in 2" on 1 side, score the other side at 2,4,6,8". Cut the 2,4,6,8 scores up to the 2" score. Fold & tape box together. Of course stamp it 1st. after it is together, kinda fold 2 sides in like a lunch bag. Then use rectangle punch on each side for a place to put ribbon. HTH I hope I made sense too.
Using 1/2 sheet of 8.5x11 cardstock, score vertically at 2,4,6 & 8 inches along the 8.5 side. Then score horizontally 2 inches up from bottom. Cut on vertical score lines up from bottom 2 inches. Fold in flaps, seal and seal edge. Pinch top, using rectangle punch to notch top for ribbon. Tie on tag. I hope this makes sense.
There is a sample in my gallery. It's fun to wheel the cardstock first, then score the other side. Be generous with the adhesive.

This was done at the Charlotte, NC regionals.
1. take 8 1/2 x 11 cut long ways to make 8 1/2 X 5 1/2
2. score at 2, 4, 6, 8 and 3 1/2 perpendicular to the others
3. on all the 2, 4, 6, 8 score lines cut up to the 3 1/2 score line. understand??
4. fold around, tucking the 1/2 side in and glue with glue stick
5. should then have rectangle box open at both ends
6. take the ends that are cut and tuck in one at a time using adhesive of choice to hold together.
7. now box is closed at one end
8. set upright, and pinch two of the corners together, other side with fold together inside
9. take slot punch and punch slot on each side at top, it makes a perfect groove for the ribbon.
I hope that all makes sence :? It's very cute and I've done it at a ton of workshops!
I have received a bunch of emails for directions for this cute box since uploading one with All the Best in the gallery.
These directions are more detailed for those of you who emailed me saying you were box-challenged!
1. Cut a sheet of cardstock to 8 1/2" x 5 1/2".
2. Stamp sheet as desired.
3. Insert scoring blade on paper cutter. Score at 2", 4", 6" and 8" along the 8 1/2" length side of cardstock piece. You will have a 1/2" section left over.
4. Turn cardstock piece 90 degrees, and score entire length of cardstock at the 2" mark. (Your scoring blade will travel 8-1/2" down. The 5 1/2" side of cardstock piece will be against the bottom lip of your paper cutter).
5. Look at your scored cardstock piece. Take scissors and trim off the 2" x 1/2" section (not the 3 1/2" x 1/2" section). *Note: The 3 1/2" x 2" sections are the box top and the 2" x 2" sections are the box bottom.
6. Cut each 2" score mark along the 8 1/2" side. (You will be making three straight cuts, each along the 2" score marks). Do not cut beyond the long score mark running the length of the 8 1/2" side.
7. Fold along all score marks.
8. Place a section of sticky strip tape along the 3 1/2" x 1/2" flap on the decorated/stamped side. Seal the top part of the box closed.
9. Fold up the four 2" x 2" pieces; this is the bottom of your box. Use a sticky strip on the last 2" x 2" piece to seal the bottom of the box.
10. You will be forming the top of the box similar to a milk carton: Look at your box and find the side that looks best for your front. This front section and the back section of your box will remain flat. You will be 'denting' in the two SIDES of the box until you can pinch the top of the box flat.
11. I notched my sides with a rectangle hand-held punch and tied closed with a length of earth elements fiber.
I sincerely hope these help as this is a great little box. I will be doing these for my September workshops for sure.
If these directions do not make sense, keep in mind I am math challenged, left-handed, and often write backward!
You can also play with the size, if you keep the length the same, you can play with the 5 1/2" size - I've done it as tall as 8 1/2" and it makes a really cute tall box. Great to use with the larger wheels. Same instructions as posted above~my customers have loved making these.
After reading the post and directions, I had to try one. Some of you may know, I am a little klumzy, but I made a charming!!! box following these directions. Obviously, very well written, and easy to follow. Maybe they are written especially for Jerseyans? (Thats a good thing) Thanks Cindy.
