I have the larger one (sold in SU catalog), but I was wondering about this tiny one. It looks like its marking may be in smaller increments than 1/2". If so, I'll probably get one. If they are not, I have no desire for one more piece of stuff on my desk. . . So I thought I'd see if anyone here has one and can look at the grid for me to see if it has a 1/2" grid or a 1/4" grid. Thanks a bunch!
I have the 8.5" cutter and it has 1/4" increments. However, it's difficult to use for smaller than 1" pieces. It's hard to get the paper/cardstock under the paper holder. And, the paper holder is not as good as the 12x12 (feels like it doesn't go down far enough to actually hold the paper). I like it because I'm able to keep it on my table with me, but I find myself getting up and going to my big 12x12 to make cuts. The other thing that I don't like is when you life the handle, the whole base comes up a little bit (too light).
I have the 8 1/2" trimmer (and the small base and the full 12x12 :rolleyes: ) and I love them all! I'll agree that the 8 1/2" (and the 6") don't have the same spring loaded paper holder as the others, but it works just as well IMO. I haven't had any problems getting cardstock/paper under it, it holds the paper in place, and it cuts beautifully. It's wonderful to keep right on my drafting table with me -- the bigger cutters are on my cutting table and now I just use 'em for doing bigger stuff.
Thanks, everyone! I think I might go with the 8 1/2" since one archived thread mentioned that the Tonic customer reps said it was better. . . Of course, that means not quite as easy o fit on a crowded desk! :-D
btw, I don't have any problem holding the paper, it is not spring loaded but in my opinion you don't need spring loaded for cutting pieces that are *that* small. I just press down on it to keep the paper still when cutting. Works awesome. I love all my tonic cutters, the only one I don't have is the 8-1/2 one, but might have to get that sometime soon..lol. This little cutter is so worth the money, ask Jeanne S., she has one too.
