I received Natural Beauty at the Columbus regional and I love it except for the border lines around the dogwood bloom and the butterfly. I'm not sure why they put those there.
I'm thinking about trimming the border off but wanted to get an opinion before I do it. Do you think I'll regret trimming it off? Can anyone think of a reason to keep the border on there? I've never done that before and feel like I'm committing a crime by altering the stamped image!
If you haven't seen the set, visit the Natural Beauty gallery at:
i thought the same thing when i was trying to mask the dw flower for a card i was making. although i do like the lines when matting a single flower with a square. the butterfly has the same thing
Personally I like the borders. You could leave them and use a marker to"ink " the stamp, leaving the border off (not coloring it). Then you could have it both ways. Or if you never want the borders there , just cut them off. They're your stamps and you can have them like you want them. Unless you are a demo and are going to demo with them. Then I would leave them unaltered. Just my humble opinion.

I like the lines! I wouldn't cut them off. I think it gives the set a unique look...'not just another floral set'. Like one person said, just don't ink that portion.
Being a demonstrator was one of the reasons I thought I shouldn't cut them off...I'll definitely demonstrate this set a lot when the new catalog comes out because I just love it. On the other hand, I thought I could just tell my customers I cut them off because I didn't care for them but they could do what they want. I hate to have to use the marker each time I use them, I really can't see me ever wanting the borders there espcially on the butterfly--since the border is only in the corner it looks like I didn't trim the stamp well and I'm "catching" the edge (I actually had a customer think that was what happened".
Can someone stamp all the images on one piece of cardstock so I can see them all? Please??? Then just post it and put the link here???? PRETTY PLEASE??? ok I am begging!! I just want to see all the images in one place! Thanks
Thanks girls, they are all very nice...after seeing them...I would not trim.. I would just not color those areas.... I like the border on them and Can see why you would not want them there as well...so I would use my markers!
Stephanie,
Thanks so much for sharing the images of that beautiful set, I appreciate it! I would go with what you really want for the set. If you think you will use it more with the border trimmed from the dogwood, then I would do it! If it helps you demo it better, then you will sell more. I am not a demo, though and have been very happy with all them images I have altered or trimmed (with the exception of the very first one I trimmed without decent scissors as a newbie!) Good luck on whatever you decide to do! You can always wait a little bit, too and trim it later if you find you don't use it as much as it is!
I can actually live with the border on the dogwood blossom but the butterfly really bugs me since it's not a whole border and sorta looks like a mistake?
I LOVE the word/background stamp! You can get 10 words off that one stamp!
Stephanie - thanks for posting. I have more incentive to get to a regional!
If you don't like the butterfly border, can you just use the scotch tape trick to cover it when you ink the stamp? (I only forgot once, or 3 times, to take tape off before stamping  ) Somehow, I am sure there will be a compelling reason for that border by the time the new catty comes out!
I agree about the butterfly border, it's strange. While you can omit it with markers, if you don't like it, and wanted to trim it, it would be VERY easy to sketch in your own border (incomplete as shown or completed) with a pen if some reason you ever did want it again, just a thought!!!
The only piece of a stamp I think I ever trimmed and threw out completely rather than mounting on the end of my block in case I wanted it later was the tiny 3 on the flower stamp in Botanicals (my first SU purchase ever). I knew I'd want o use it for flower backgrounds a lot rather than it looking like a botnaical plate always with that number The little bulb I did trim and mount to the end of the block), and I've never regretted doing so.
I was really stoked when I saw that there was a Regional in Reno - but it's so close to our move date... We're moving to NC in a few weeks so I'm going to try to make it to the one in DC in April... or even Atlanta in March
