SU is using peanuts - HELP!
I received an order from SU today - 2nd day air.
The brown paper filler that is normally used has disappeared.
It has been replaced with the more environmentally PC peanuts that reduce to nothing when placed in water.
The new recyclable peanuts are awful.
I respect SU's decision to be more environmentally PC.
However, the peanuts ARE SHREDDING in transit. The peanuts are leaving a very undesirable residue. This residue attaches itself to EVERYTHING plastic (stamp cases, etc.) and is unbelievably time-consuming to remove.
I have tried Swifter cloths. This does not help. The residue gets in every crevice of the plastic stamp cases too. It is getting on the inside of some of the stamp cases and onto the rubber.....UG UG UG!
Does anyone know of a better way to speed this awful debris removal?
I have sent SU an email requesting they please reconsider reverting to the brown paper stuffing for space filler in boxes.
I do not and now would never send a hostess this type of packaging.

You've gotta be kidding? Yuckola. I prefer the air pockets to the brown paper, personally. I HATE the peanuts. It'll be interesting to see what my order tomorrow comes packed in. . . .

While I applaud SU for being environmentally consious, I have to wonder, is UT dry? The reason I ask is that I know NC is humid and my boxes are some time a little wilty when I receive them if they've had to sit in the truck all day. Those peanuts are going to melt like butter here. I think SU should be made aware not only of what you experienced but also what we stampers do with their brown paper. My last order is covering my daughters school books.
PS ~ my order that arrived yesterday had the brown paper. Shipped as of last Tuesday.

I am not kidding. Sorry. Wish I was.
Thank goodness I didn't ship this directly to the hostess - I usually don't.
You should see the jumbo roller holder - stuck to the outside and the fun part was the inside....being hollow it was a nesting ground!!!
My 7 year old is having fun playing with the peanuts in the sink now.
I ended up using a baby wipe - took me about 10-15 minutes to wipe everything down. And some of the sets it is on the rubber & the inside of the cases - yucko.
12 stamp sets - had to wipe down each order of cardstock, the tags...ug ug!!!
I called demo support; figured the email would take too long - told them they needed to get on the horn to the warehouse and either (1) encase EVERYTHING in a plastic bag that is SEALED or (2) go back to the paper!!
But...I got my tool kit - that comes in a cardboard box. The peanuts don't stick to paper!!

oh no! Maybe I don't want my box to get here so fast now. I have to get out the vacuum cleaner. Oh wait, it's still in the middle of the floor in the other room from when I mistakenly thought I might do some cleaning. Whew! I'm ready for my box NOW NOW NOW!
I read a few things on Stampin' Discuss when they had those peanuts before:
1) Open the box upside down
2) use a vacuum cleaner - of course, that only works if your vacuum cleaner is the kind with the hose and a brush.
3) Do not dump the peanuts in the toilet (stop laughing, I'm serious)
4) Putting them down the garbage disposal is not necessarily the best either - hot water works best to disolve the peanuts but is a big no-no for the garbage disposal.
If you have a yard waste bin from the recycling company, you might be able to put them in there.

peanuts
That's what I was going to suggest. Take a damp rag to help get the "clinging" peanuts off of all of your stuff. I can see that being a complete mess.
I also had the brown paper in my shipment today. I just don't like dealing with those peanuts. I can see us now, having peanut pieces in our hair on our clothes (constantly). This is really going to mark us addicted ones from the hobby demonstrators. Oh no! What will we do?!

I just got a huge order on Friday and it had the paper too. I think if the peanuts are sticking to stuff from static electricity, you should try wiping with a dryer sheet. That might keep them from jumping back on when you brush them off.

My delivery today had the brown paper for packing. Maybe with all of the orders they temporarily ran out of the paper and had to get by with something else until they got more in. My kitten has been having a blast with the brown paper. The peanuts would have been a nightmare if he had gotten into them!

I wonder if those peanuts are as bad for animals as other things. At least I know when the cat eats the paper, he's not going to get sick or have his insides messed up.

They had a special on a packing company here in StL on a morning show and they actually ate a few of those b/c they are that safe, supposedly... so I doubt they'll hurt animals.

Are you suggesting that hobby demonstrators are not as addicted?
For shame Lana! I'm addicted...I admitted it...and said I don't want help.
Take that back! Quick!!

Ohhh nooo. YUCK!
WEll is there some kind of stamping technique that we can do with the packing peanuts? Ifthere is than there is certainly more than enough to use for each color and for each color in the craft and for all the spectrum pads, chalk pads, versamark and Stazon :P

Ahhh, the good ol' days (big sigh)... I remember when we got those wonderful "air pockets" that reduced to almost nothing when popped! The brown paper takes soooo much space in the trash :(
But peanuts??? They are more frustrating than wire hangers!

FYI, the peanuts are made out of corn starch so they won't harm anyone or anything but I still don't like them either

I just received an order I had placed Monday second day air. No peanuts thank goodness. After seeing your post I was afraid to open it (first time that's ever happened). Maybe it was just a temporary thing - let's hope so.

Someone asked if Utah is dry. Yes, it is very dry, when I first moved there I thought I had a Mary Kay mask on my face!

I got a supply order Monday and a demo order today (yea!!) and both had the paper.
As for the "peanuts," long time back they were a corn-based product, safe to eat (as if, like, you'd really want your little ones eating them!). Very attractive to squirrels and mice, too....
Hugs,
Betsy

Pam - no, not really. I was actually being VERY cynical and refering to US!'s new roll of wrapping paper in the holidays mini, the one they want entirely too much mullah for, especially when we get wrapping paper free with every order. Or should I say, USED TO get wrapping paper free...
However, I too, am waiting for my order to arrive, but it's not due until next Tues. so UPS site says. I'll definitely let SU know my displeasure if the box is full of cornstach peanuts. I do NOT need anymore unnecessary cleaning!!!!
BTW: Do you think they know some people have allergies to corn?
Disclaimer:
The above " Rant" does not necessarily reflect the normal(abnormal?) views of the under-subscribed.

rita - I have no idea - I've never heard of anyone being allergic to corn. My DD has a friend that is lactose and fructose (plus various other oses) intolerant so I know they have to really limit her intake of fruits and veggies but she only has a problem eating them.

I got a deomnstrator order today that had peanuts in it. It was a rather small box, maybe that has something to do with it. Half of my demo order was backordered. ERG. Yesterday I got a supply order & it had paper in it.

I too hate those peanuts!!! They are AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL!!!!! I got a supply order today and it had those disgusting peanuts in it!!! Yuck, yuck, yuck. They are so messy! Mine weren't too bad, but it is still more cleaning than I would like to do. I want to get into my stuff and play, not have to clean before I can play.

Ode To Peanuts
Oh peanuts, oh peanuts,
How we hate you.
With that obstinate cling,
Like the fresh morning dew
The vacuum, the swiffer,
to help clean out the box
We miss those air baggies.
Would say they’re the Tops
Oh peanuts, oh peanuts
Away with you go
Is the next order packed with them?
You will never know.
So sit there this day
in trembling fear
Oh no.....they are coming
So close and so near
I know why they did it
This dread of the town
It’s all that darn mocking
Of Clarence, the clown!
