Default Office Max Memo Cube DISASTER

I finally got around to going to Office Max to have them make memo cubes for me. As soon as I opened my mouth I knew this venture was going to go south FAST.

The clerk was clueless. I specifically said I wanted a SQUARE memo cube 3 1/2 x 3 1/2. She didn't know ANYTHING! SHe asked if I want a cardboard piece in between them. In between what?? Yikes. So I explained again and she wrote up the order. I also explained the paper had to be lined up so the sides were smooth. She quoted me 50 cents a pad plus cost of 2 reams paper. Sound too good to be true? Believe me, it was!

I went back yesterday to pick them up. Same clueless clerk. I wanted to cry. They were *no exaggeration* 6 inches, maybe 7 inches, high! I said, no problem, I can just divide one cube in half by pulling them apart. No need as they were already splitting all over the place. The sides were EXTREMELY uneven. I would never have gotten a clear stamped image on them. Still I'm pulling out my credit card to pay for them and she says $17. For what?? I ask. She neglected to tell me there was a cutting fee of $3. Annoyed and upset you think I would have said "forget it". No, i buy them and go out to the car. My DH was waiting for me and he said, "You can't use these." and upon inspecting the receipt he notices they charged me for 10 cubes, not 6.

We made a couple more stops and I knew I had to go back to Office Max. I took them back, said I wasn't pleased and they gave me a full refund as happy as could be. Meanwhile I was stressed stressed stressed.

I'm glad it's over and am going to search for the previous post on Memo cubes b/c someone mentioned a good source for purchasing them. The things we do for the love of rubber stamping! :?

Thanks for listening to me vent. Hope anyone else that tries this has better luck than me! Would you believe I am actually considering going to Staples to see how they would do with making memo cubes????

I tried Staples and they said they did not have the ability to do this job. I did go to Michael's and bought some Barbie cubes for .99 and cut off the top and covered the back and sides with cardstock. The sides are VERY smooth and took the ink nicely and very evenly. They are smaller than some of the sizes people have had made but until I find a place to make them they worked out well.FYI

Try Pip Printing (I believe the site is http://www.pip.com ) they do it. Or try Kinkos. Definitely go to an actual copy place rather than Staples or OM. Good Luck

I had almost the same experinece, but probably not quite as bad. This happened on Monday. I had bought two reams of paper at a different store because they were on sale. Took them into Office Max. He knew what I was talking about but had to call his supervisor to quote me a price. When he came back he said we could do them for 50 cents a cube. I wanted them cut into 3 x 3 pads. I said that will be great! I was so excited a memo pad for 50 cents plus the cost of my paper, couldn't beat that!! I said can I come back later to pick them up since I live about an hour away? He said sure. I went back when he said it would be okay. First of all they weren't done. So I asked if I paid for them could someone pick them up for me? Sure, no problem. So as I am writing my check out I am told that my total is $20 and some odd cents! I said wait, I bought the paper elsewhere and I was told it would be 50 cents per cube. Then I was told the rest was for cutting the paper! I was speechless, I didn't know what to say! I just wrote the check and walked out I was so mad. What are you suppossed to do. I just felt taken advantage of or something like that! I am afraid to see them now because of your story! Sorry for this being so long! Guess I was more upset than I realized!

Oh Steph..I feel your pain. Sounds hauntingly familiar! If you are not satisfied RETURN THEM. Espeically for $20. It was uncomfortable for me to go back in there and return mine, but I knew I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't!

I'm thinking of going to a real printing press to give it a try. Now I'm more determined than ever to stamp on some $(@$% memo cubes.

Good luck and let us know how you make out!!

I had pretty much the same experience last week at Office Depot.. Got a gal that had no clue what I was talking about.. When she finally figured it out, she said it'd be about $1.00 per cube, but it would take 4 days. I thought GREAT! Well the next day her supervisor called me and said it'd be more like $6.00 a cube.. I just cancelled the order because others have said they've gotten them at Kinkos for $1.66 per cube. So, I'm going to take a 30-40 minute drive and do it there. I'm glad the supervor called and told me the other gal quoted wrong!

I am sitting reading about all of your disasters and think of what ever happened to knowledgable people. I want to take my catty to get spiral bound but I am afraid. I feel like I should take my book in and threaten them with an inch of their life to make them do it right. I have had this problem lately with customer service. They are hiring teenagers and turning them loose the first day with no training. I have nothing against teenagers working b/c I was one a couple of years ago but I had training. Hello these xompanies need to revamp their training system. Also, you cannot complain to the manager's b/c they are as old or a year or 2 older than the employee. Now I feel better!!

Default memo cubes - good source

Try americancube.com.

They are in New York. I am in New Jersey.

I ordered 36, unprinted 3.5" square cubes at $1.61 each; shipping/freight was $9 and change. Worked out to $1.86 per cube, with the shipping.

A sample of these is in my gallery; I posted one this morning with the watercolor II set; it was a gift for a teacher.

Hope this helps somebody. I got them the day after I ordered them.

They do carry SU size of 2-3/4" square cubes too. Quality is excellent. Ink adheres very well.
