Default Inny or Outy

This question has baffled me for ...

When you score your paper

Does the little hump go to the inside or to the outside???

Inquiring minds want to know.

I have been folding to the inside the thought being that the crease on the other side creates the prettier cleaner fold, however, each time I do it I wonder "maybe I should do it the other way?, is it supposed to go the other way? aghhh!"

Of course I like it the way I do it, but I just have to know whether I am doing it wrong or right. And if I am wrong do I wanna be right.

Sorry I am tired, or just nutty. Well tired but definately nutty

I do it where the hump is on the outside. HTH
It just seems right, you fold where you score.

Default Scoring a Card

I was taught to fold the card with the hump inside, which seems the opposite of what you'd think it would be.

I also just looked up in a book called, The Big Book of Handmade Cards, and they say "scoring makes folding card and paper easy and give your finished cards a professional appearance. Use a stylus to score paper and card. You should score on the outside of the card."

Hope this helps.

It's definitely the hump on the inside and the recess on the outside. So if you use a bone folder or embosser you score on the outside and then fold it in half. Hope that is clearer than mud.

In another thread a person said that her friend who went to paper school said that the crease goes on the inside. It has to do with the fact that when you score the valley area it strengthens that part and makes it work better for the outside.

Default scoring cards

Whew!!! I think I know what you mean, but then again maybe not :?

I'm with Ally (and maybe some others --- the in-out, valley-hump thing kind of lost me!)

Carol Duval on HGTV always shows that you score the card with a stylus or bone folder and pick up the card as it is and give it a squeeze to create the fold....does that mean the valley is on the outside, the hump on the inside? Who knows! But if you do it the way she says, the card naturally goes into the fold and it works everytime.

Alright, now you can go back to the valley, hump, inside, outside discussion!

okay gals...we're on the right track...
remember it this way...
when you score you make a ditch (a valley) in the cardstock. The hump (mountain) is then underneath.

Say this to yourself... "Ditch up, fold down" Point the ditch up to the sky then fold the cardstock down.

So, the valley/ditch ends up on the outside, the hump/mountain is on the inside.
Happy Stamping!

I have never really thought about this, but now I'm not sure I'll ever be able to fold another card because I will freeze up when it comes time to make the decision. Much the same as I do when it's time to change the roll of toilet paper and I'm just not sure which way is RIGHT. Then I have to just set the roll on top of the mechanism and hope somebody else makes the decision. I just can't handle so many choices!!!! What if I do it WRONG?????
