I have heard people talk about the difference when stamping on the Ultrasmooth cardstock, but now I am a believer.
I had some cheapo Walmart cardstock I usually use for the base of my cards, saving the 'good' stuff (US cardstock) for workshops.
Well, I used Terrific Tulips with Pale Plum & Perfect Plum & O. Olive. I was just looking at my cards, and noticed one was so much more 'real' looking. The ink was smooth, covered very well and looked soft. This one was on US. You can feel the difference.
The other card had stippled looking ink and looked rough.
I am now absolutely convinced! What a complete difference in these cards.
Can't wait to show this at workshops!!
Quick story but a good one. Friday night I had a couple of gals over stamping. I had all my stamp sets and ink pads out as well as whatever SU! stuff I remembered to bring out. They brought their CS and adhesive. One of the gals was using glossy CS from Archivers to do the brayer with a spectrum pad based on a sample I had done. She was very disappointed that the glossy CS she bought didn't even take the ink. It was sooo weird, but definitely a plus for SU! CS. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it! Go SU!

I was stamping with a friend the other night and she hasn't gotten any stampin up inks yet... and was getting very frustrated trying to use the water colour pencils and blender pens...her ink kept running and so all of her colours looked really awful!! She is getting 3 pads with her next order.
Which Walmart cardstock did you try this with? If it was the Office Supreme cardstock then I totally agree. On the other hand, Wal-mart carries some wonderful cardstock very nearly identical to US White (in fact no one in our stamp club can tell it apart). It is called Georgia Pacific, is very white and very smooth. If you stamp on that and US White you cannot tell a difference at all. It is around $3 for a huge package (the size of a ream of paper). I use it for all my stamping and get lovely results. The Office Supreme stuff at Walmart is really awful though and I could not recommend it at all. I agree, the Georgia Pacific white is nice cardstock but it still is NOT as good as the Ultrasmooth. The GP is pretty smooth, but the US is sooo much smoother! Even my dh noticed a big difference and he has super rough mechanic's hands. :lol:
I also agree, the US white is so much better than the GP. I use GP often in my scrapbook for white cardstock. I didn't want to spend the money, because I figured white card stock is white card stock, right? Not until I borrowed a US white sheet from a friend did I realize the difference. The GP is now the kids' paper for stamping. . . it doesn't hold a candle to the US from Stampin' Up!.
It is simple enough for people to do their own experiments here and then no one needs to disagree. If you do, make sure it is the GP and not the OS brand.
I didn't think there was much of a difference from one white sheet to the next until I used US White. It is heads above the rest! Now I use my leftover cheap cardstock for tester cards and non-cardmaking projects.

Is dot your name? You never sign a name... anyway, just wondered if you are an art teacher, you mentioned how much stamping you do each week with your students. I think I'd buy cheap stuff too if I was doing that.

I admit I too, was a real doubter of the US white for such a long time. I'm on a very limited budget and could not see spending that much on a white CS. I also got the GP from Wal-Mart. They have recently improved upon their cs so that it too is much smoother. But on a side-to-side comparison (especially after a week or two) the SU! cs is SOOOOOO much better. The colors stay more true to the original color and don't every bleed.
I agree that if I was stamping hundreds of cards, that I would probably use the GP, but for my own personal stamping and demonstrations, I stick to SU! only. It just IS the best!!!

But you've said you live in Oregon. That's not too careful! I used to live in Salem -- there aren't very many of these kinds of school around.
The institution where I work is not in Oregon. My original residence is there temporarily. Don't worry about me. I know exactly what I can reveal and what I can not. We are very trained as I have max security clearance. I weigh every word when it comes to personal information. Actually there are 3500 hundred correction teachers in Oregon alone even if I were there.
There is definitely a HUGE difference btn. the two cardstocks!! I have demo-ed it for customers before and they were shocked to see such a difference (ESPECIALLY when coloring with blender pens and aquapainters)!

SU US white ROCKS. It took my cheap rear end sooooo long to admit it, but it is like the difference between 1 ply and 2 ply ;)

but, I must admit, that's a great way to describe the comparison!
Personally, I can actually feel the difference with my fingertips, as well as the way it stamps, and I use the GP brand for practicing, experimentation, or making templates, or let my kids use it for their projects and it's an inexpensive paper for that kind of use.
Tooooo Cooooool! I just met another corrections teacher who uses stamping in her class via this thread!! I love it!!! She says it is a common way to do art in max security because it involves no sharp objects This is just too cool!

Yep, I agree with you Tina! I have the GP and that's what I let my 5yr old stamp on & make cards. Oh, and I also use it for those who I know aren't "card-savers" and will be more apt to trash my artwork. The US is for me and for those who care enough to receive the very best, LOL! :lol:
As I have said before.....I own a printing company and I handle paper all the time. The GP card stock is a good quality paper...but still does not compare with the SU US. It's just not as smooth. It may very well be a much better product than most that you will find in a retail store.
I do wish that SU would sell large packages of paper. I understand that some demos were repackaging and meaking a profit, but 50 sheet sof white is just not enough!!

I always thought that GP from Wal mart and US from Stampin UP was the same too. So i told my husband which one do you think is the best . One is Stampin up and the other is GP from Wal mart what do you think? Well he did he pick the US and and said it feels smoother without me even mentoning it. So for my personal use I use GP but for demos and such I use US

I'm a frugal spender and bought Georgia Pacific some time ago. I was satisfied with it until yesterday. I had someone send me a sample of SU white & they looked alike to me (SU is little smoother) until I stamped. I was using solid stamps & cudn't believe the difference (my stamp pads were brand new & juicy). The GP cs from walmart was little textured & dull but SU had complete coverage, BRIGHT & sharp!! I was gaping for almost 5 mins. Maybe I wud hv been happy with GP if I hadn't seen how the images stamped on SU white.
I don't know if that is the case with just solid stamps but I've decided to order Su white for my stamping & use the other cs (GP) for layering & card base.
Seriously gals, I'm very stingy & think 1000000 times before I spend but SU white just bowled me over. Get it a try... get a sample from someone just like I did & see the difference.

I've been having a problem too with trying to brayer with a spectrum pad on some glossy cardstock I have--I don't recall where I purchased the glossy from but I'm sure it wasn't SU. The ink just sits on top for a few seconds, and then it sort of evaporates. Very frustrating!! There must be some kind of coating on it that doesn't lend itself to dye inks. Is SU's glossy really that much better for brayering? Please say "yes" because that means the problem was with my paper and no me! :lol:
