I am looking to purchase a silent eyelet setter, i.e. one of those spring-loaded ones but I am not sure which one to buy. I am tired of whacking to hammer on those tiny things and hitting my thumb by mistake. Not to mention how crazy it makes my cats...Any suggestions?
You need a cropdile for the ease, but it only reaches so far. I also have a silent setter so that I can put an eyelet anywhere. I use the crop a dile more
this is my first time trying to reply, but if it helps I have a silent setter and love it as long as I am using PC eyelets all others I end up hitting with a hammer to finish the back. good luck
I got a Cropadile for myself as a little early Christmas present. I LOVE it! Its true that is only reaches an inch into the paper, but you can often avoid the problem by putting eyelets in before you layer.
I have a Clik-it and its mostly a pain (and loud). I still keep it just in case though.
Silent Setter by Making Memories. It's great and you can use it anywhere.
I couldn't find a "Silent Setter" on Making Memories site. There were a couple of other names. Would it be Instant Setter? or Universal Setter?
For "Silent Setter" I found one by Provo. It got mixed reviews - lots of people said you have to puch too hard, like you could just take a regular setter and push on it instead of using your hammer, and it would be the same thing.
I had the Silent Setter by Provo and returned it. It was too hard to push and twist, and hurt my hand and wrist.
I am not a wimp, consider myself pretty strong, and don't have arthritis or anything, but it was just too hard to use.
I got the Crop a dile and love, love, love it. I just work around the fact that it has a limited reach. Most things I put eyelets on are attached to the card or page after the fact, so it isn't a problem for me.
I would highly recommend the Crop a dile.

I have the Silent Setter from Making Memories too, and I also have the Cropadile. The cropadile you can only reach so far, so I don't like that. The silent setter, you can go anywhere with it, and it is really easy to use. Mine cost around $14 at AC Moore.

I have the Provo Craft Silent Setter and I love it. The secret is not to twist, but to push straight down. I do usually stand to use it. (The top of mine is stripped because I twisted it too much.) And if the eyelet is one of the older harder eyelets, I just give it a whack with my rubber mallet. Not silent, but I couldn't set these with my old setter either so it works well for me. I haven't tried the Cropadile though.
I love the Silent Setter (Provo) - it's great for SU eyelets, but you still need the old hammer method for the harder eyelets, like those by Making Memories. The only time I've had trouble with my wrists was when I did LOADS of eyelet-setting in a hurry. But for normal use, it's fab, and you can make the hole anywhere.
I just bought a Crop-O-Dile today and I am really loving it. It is so easy, it doesn't really take any effort and I love how you can set the punch so that your holes are all lined up.

I also use the one from Making Memories-the only one i've tried, and I like it. It is still kinda loud, but you can use it anywhere on the page. To set the harder eylets, I just push down a few more times and they eventually flatten out!
