Default Stamping Survey

I am writing an article for a new stamping magazine that will come out in 2006 and have been asked to find out what stampers think on these issues!

1- How many hours a week do you stamp?

2-Do you prefer to buy your stamps from stores where you can see the stamp first or online?

3-What is your favorite online stamp/stamp supply source?

4-How long have you been stamping?

5- What is your favorite new product that is widely available?

6-Do you feel stamps are priced fairly or over priced?

7-Do you prefer to buy stamps individually in or in sets (such as Hero Arts has)?

8- Where do you get inspiration (examples: other stampers, magazines, etc.)?

9-Has your stamp art ever been published in a mainstream stamping magazine?

10- Which company do you think sets the standard in quality?

11- Which company is the first with the trends that all the others follow?

12- Do you use discounts and wait for sales?

13- What is your favorite brand of stamps available online or in stamp stores? (Why is this your favorite brand?)

14- Do you use Twinkling H2O's? Have they replaced other products for you?

1- How many hours a week do you stamp?
Probably 5-10 hours.

2-Do you prefer to buy your stamps from stores where you can see the stamp first or online?
almost exclusively from stampin up! so that would be neither of the above

3-What is your favorite online stamp/stamp supply source?
I have purchased a few things at addicted to rubber stamps, but again, almost all purchases are from SU!

4-How long have you been stamping?
2.5 years

5- What is your favorite new product that is widely available?
colored minibrads

6-Do you feel stamps are priced fairly or over priced?
depends on the brand! SU, totally fair prices.... I think individual stamps at most stores are WAY overpriced!

7-Do you prefer to buy stamps individually in or in sets (such as Hero Arts has)?
in sets, as they just go together more easily for me that way

8- Where do you get inspiration (examples: other stampers, magazines, etc.)?
splitcoast!

9-Has your stamp art ever been published in a mainstream stamping magazine?
nope

10- Which company do you think sets the standard in quality?
stampin' up and hero arts both

11- Which company is the first with the trends that all the others follow?
for paper? ki memories, sei, making memories.... for stamps? stampin' up and hero arts

12- Do you use discounts and wait for sales?
I use discounts and sales when they apply, but I don't spend months waiting to buy a stamp set in case it goes on sale...

13- What is your favorite brand of stamps available online or in stamp stores? (Why is this your favorite brand?)
stampin' up! but it isn't available in those locations I guess "online" would be the making memories foam alphabet stamps because they're cheap and cute

14- Do you use Twinkling H2O's? Have they replaced other products for you?
I've used them and found them unimpressive.

Forgot to add one: How long have you been stamping?
That was question 4 ;)

Keep 'em coming!! Sorry I duplicated one of the questions. I just did not see it when I went back to supposedly proofread The more answers, the better picture we will have. We are posting this survey on a minimum of 8 stamping sites. Please do not answer it again on another site as it might skew the results. Thanks for your help. Our goal is 1000 responses and we are at around 200 now.

Edited to remove responses.......I, too, would like to know more information about what the magazine is, what the survey will be used for, and why the questions/data is not asked in an objective format?

1- How many hours a week do you stamp?
Approximately 8 hours. I prefer to take my stuff out on weekends only, as I don't have a scrap room or scrap space.

2-Do you prefer to buy your stamps from stores where you can see the stamp first or online?
If I have the option, I prefer to buy stamps locally so I can see what I'm buying and save on shipping costs.

3-What is your favorite online stamp/stamp supply source?
So far, I've only bought stamps from Ma Vinci Reliquary.

4-How long have you been stamping?
A little less than a year.

5- What is your favorite new product that is widely available? I love to use ribbon. It's not a new product but it's been gaining in popularity recently.

6-Do you feel stamps are priced fairly or over priced?
I feel they're overpriced.

7-Do you prefer to buy stamps individually in or in sets (such as Hero Arts has)? I like to have the option to buy the stamps separately (Hero Arts, for example, packages kits but sells the stamps individually, too). Especially when packages include English sentiments (I prefer to make French cards).

8- Where do you get inspiration (examples: other stampers, magazines, etc.)? Mainly from the Internet (Splitcoast Stampers, Two Peas in a Bucket) and the magazines (Paper Crafts, etc.)

9-Has your stamp art ever been published in a mainstream stamping magazine? No, I've never submitted anything.

10- Which company do you think sets the standard in quality? Stampin' Up! sells high quality products and has great customer service.

14- Do you use Twinkling H2O's? Have they replaced other products for you? I haven't used them yet but they seem like a neat product.

1- How many hours a week do you stamp? 8+
2-Do you prefer to buy your stamps from stores where you can see the stamp first or online? Almost never buy from stores and I've never bought stamps online. 99% of my stamp purchases are from Stampin' Up!

4-How long have you been stamping? About 15 years total but 5 years seriously.
5- What is your favorite new product that is widely available? Brads!
6-Do you feel stamps are priced fairly or over priced? Stampin' Up! stamps are very fairly priced. Stamps in stores are WAY overpriced!
7-Do you prefer to buy stamps individually in or in sets (such as Hero Arts has)? Sets from Stampin' Up!
8- Where do you get inspiration (examples: other stampers, magazines, etc.)? Definitely other stampers like here on SCS, Stamper's Showcase from Stampin' Up!, swaps.

10- Which company do you think sets the standard in quality? Definitely Stampin' Up!
11- Which company is the first with the trends that all the others follow? Again, I have to say Stampin' Up!
12- Do you use discounts and wait for sales? Yes!
13- What is your favorite brand of stamps available online or in stamp stores? (Why is this your favorite brand?) I don't have any from online or stamp stores. I prefer to buy my stamp sets from Stampin' Up!
14- Do you use Twinkling H2O's? Have they replaced other products for you? No -- don't care for them.

1- How many hours a week do you stamp?
5-10; sometimes more

2-Do you prefer to buy your stamps from stores where you can see the stamp first or online?
I prefer to buy stamps in sets, so I guess online or in a catalog cause stores rarely have sets.

3-What is your favorite online stamp/stamp supply source?
Stampin Up

4-How long have you been stamping?
Since 1991- so 14 years? Am I that old?

5- What is your favorite new product that is widely available?
Pearl X

6-Do you feel stamps are priced fairly or over priced?
Depends on the stamps. I think individual wood mounted stamps sold in stamp stores are over priced

7-Do you prefer to buy stamps individually in or in sets (such as Hero Arts has)?
Sets. Almost never buy individually any more.

8- Where do you get inspiration (examples: other stampers, magazines, etc.)?
Split Coast, Magazines, Other stampers, Life

9-Has your stamp art ever been published in a mainstream stamping magazine?
Nope

10- Which company do you think sets the standard in quality?
Stampin Up (I think there are few on this forum who would disagree... perhaps you need to post this elsewhere as well...)

11- Which company is the first with the trends that all the others follow?
Stampin UP

12- Do you use discounts and wait for sales?
Both

13- What is your favorite brand of stamps available online or in stamp stores? (Why is this your favorite brand?)
Other than stampin up, I think most of my sets are hero arts, but Ma Vinci's is sorely tempting me and I will be delving into TAC soon-- so many stamps, so little time

14- Do you use Twinkling H2O's? Have they replaced other products for you?
Don't use this brand; made my own with gum arabic and Pearl X. They are great, but don't entirely replace pearl x for me cause there are other things one can do with pearl x, and they don't replace regular watercolor pencils either. Just like to many different things...

You might try using a survey tool to help you get this information in a more useable fashion. I think "zoomerang" is public domain.

4-How long have you been stamping?
about 2 years

5- What is your favorite new product that is widely available?
Twinkling H2o's

6-Do you feel stamps are priced fairly or over priced?
depends on the stamp - I have a lot of SU stamps and I have just discovered TAC - I find there are a few TAC sets that are similar to some SU ones I like and I will probably buy those over the SU sets because being unmounted they are far cheaper

7-Do you prefer to buy stamps individually in or in sets (such as Hero Arts has)?
I rarely buy individual stamps but I do have a few

8- Where do you get inspiration (examples: other stampers, magazines, etc.)? - SCS!!!!

9-Has your stamp art ever been published in a mainstream stamping magazine? nope

10- Which company do you think sets the standard in quality? I have really only ever had sets from SU and TAC

YES!!!!!

13- What is your favorite brand of stamps available online or in stamp stores? (Why is this your favorite brand?)

14- Do you use Twinkling H2O's? Have they replaced other products for you?
Yep I LOVE my twinkling H2o's - I was going to get the SU marker set but I instead have about 15 different Twinkling H2's (just got 5 new pots yesterda can't wait to play) and use that to color in things using my Aquabrush....

Here it is...

1- How many hours a week do you stamp? 8-10 hours per week on average

2-Do you prefer to buy your stamps from stores where you can see the stamp first or online? Mostly buy from Stampin Up demo; but use local stamps stores and Online (Addicted to Rubber Stamps mostly) regularly too!

3-What is your favorite online stamp/stamp supply source? Addicted to Rubber Stamps

4-How long have you been stamping? 10 years

5- What is your favorite new product that is widely available? The square step corner punch from Stampin Up - I use it very often!!

6-Do you feel stamps are priced fairly or over priced? Stamps are increasing in price with popularity; The Angel Company and Stampin Up offer value for price, in my opinion

7-Do you prefer to buy stamps individually in or in sets (such as Hero Arts has)? I prefer sets; but it really depends.

8- Where do you get inspiration (examples: other stampers, magazines, etc.)?

9-Has your stamp art ever been published in a mainstream stamping magazine? Not yet, I keep trying from time to time!!

10- Which company do you think sets the standard in quality? Well, there are several: Magenta, A Muse Art Stamps, Stampin Up are the key ones the come to mind

11- Which company is the first with the trends that all the others follow? That's hard to say as I think it depends on the trend. they are all starting to have similar looking stamps - except Magenta - but each of them takes a turn in leading it seems!

12- Do you use discounts and wait for sales? I use discounts when I can; but I do not necessarily wait for sales - more project oriented. If I need something for a given card or project, I buy it now.

13- What is your favorite brand of stamps available online or in stamp stores? (Why is this your favorite brand?) Magenta - they have very high quality and interesting designs. Close seconds are A Muse Art and Hero Arts

14- Do you use Twinkling H2O's? Have they replaced other products for you? No

1- How many hours a week do you stamp? 3-4

2-Do you prefer to buy your stamps from stores where you can see the stamp first or online? online

3-What is your favorite online stamp/stamp supply source? I usually buy from Addicted to Rubber Stamps or Art Impressions

4-How long have you been stamping? 10+ years

5- What is your favorite new product that is widely available? brads and eyelets

6-Do you feel stamps are priced fairly or over priced? It depends on the company. I like it when I can buy the stamp unmounted. I'm not paying for the wood and I can save some money (and the environment!).

7-Do you prefer to buy stamps individually in or in sets (such as Hero Arts has)? no preference

8- Where do you get inspiration (examples: other stampers, magazines, etc.)? online has the best ideas, rubber stamp catalogs
The magazines have all gone downhill in my opinion - you pay a lot for very few ideas.

9-Has your stamp art ever been published in a mainstream stamping magazine? Yes - Rubber Stamper

10- Which company do you think sets the standard in quality? I like CTMH, SU, Hero Arts, Penny Black, Art Impressions.
I can't think of any poor-quality stamps I've bought. Stamp pads are a different story however.

11- Which company is the first with the trends that all the others follow?
I think Hero Arts and CTMH are good trend-setters.

12- Do you use discounts and wait for sales? If a discount is available when I am purchasing something, I will use it. I usually don't wait for sales.

13- What is your favorite brand of stamps available online or in stamp stores? (Why is this your favorite brand?) I like different stamp companies for different stamp styles. I like CTMH's alphabet stamps. I like most Hero Arts. I like Art Impressions watercolor line. I like Penny Black's brushstroke sets. I like DeNami's stamps for classic elegance. I like SU's whimsical stamps - A Little Pickup, etc.

14- Do you use Twinkling H2O's? Have they replaced other products for you? I have a few Twinkling H20's. I don't have enough colors to use them regularly. I still tend to use my watercolor pencils and prismacolor pencils more.

Seems like a peculiar survey - since it seems to skew for answers of retail and online and doesn't even have an option for anything else. Curious what publication this is for.....

Ditto. Edited to say: this is quite different from most surveys I've viewed. Usually the questions are set up as per the examples below:

1. How long have you been stamping?

a. Less than a year
b. 1-3 years
c. 4-6 years
d. 7-10 years
e. 10+ years

2. How do you purchase stamps? Please check all that apply.

a. Online
b. Retail Store
c. Direct Sales Company (i.e. Stampin' Up!, The Angel Company)
d. Mail Order
e. Other_________________(please describe)

3. Have you ever been published in a mainstream publication/periodical?

Of course, I'm not a survey expert! So, I just authored some examples that seemed more typical of surveys I have seen and participated in.

But, it seems to me that the questions as *some* of them are currently skewed, would result in fairly inconclusive data? Some of the questions are so general they encompass the industry as a whole, and others skewed to encompass a more specific target of the industry.

If the research is being done to find out specifically what portion of the industry these answers are needed for, then ALL the questions neared to be geared as such?

For example, if you are only interested in the industry from a retail store and online purchasing aspect, then ALL the questions need to be geared so as to gather data that is specific to those two categories of the rubber stamping industry.

As for the Twinkling H2O's question, I'm struggling to see HOW that fits into the rest of the survey's supposed intent?

But, that's me and where my logic takes me . . .

May I ask who the publisher is of this new magazine? And will it cater more to demos or the novice stamper? And will it have more articles than ads?
Sorry, but I always have to ask a few ?'s before answering any.
