They were just put out on the shelf of my local Michaels yesterday morning. I had a ACMoore coupon for 50% off and picked one up while I could still use coupons on them. I figure they will eventually say you can't use coupons on them like they did with the Cricut products.

The Cuttlebug is a die cut machine like the sizzix, the bigshot, etc. but you can use sizzix and others in it. You can buy alphabets, etc. along with embossing stuff for it (expensive alphabets but cheaper than some for similar products).

Provo Craft, the same folks that make the Cricut. Michael's & Joann's both have them in the stores now. I noticed that Michael's prices are cheaper than Joann's. the machine itself was $9.00 cheaper, die cuts were $2.00 - $3.00 cheaper per pack, and the embossing folders were about $3.00 cheaper, I don't recall what the difference was for the alphabets. Michael's coupons for today & tomorrow (Nov. 10 & 11) are 50% off one item ~ happy shopping!

That's what I was wondering. I saw it yesterday, and had my coupon in hand, but decided not to get it yet. I already asked my mom for the Big Shot from Costco.com, since I know it will cut chipboard. But, if this one cuts chipboard, I may have to rethink it.

According to Provo Craft in addition to paper and cardstock it will cut the following: chipboard, metal, foam, vinyl, fabric, sponges, metal mesh and other materials. Accepts all other major brands of die cuts. Their website www.provocraft.com has new product videos you can see on your computer. I am not affiliated with this company whatsoever, I'm just a stamper who has been doing heaps of research and comparisons on the different types of die cutting systems out there, trying to find the one best suited for me and I'm choosing this one. HTH. Happy Friday!!

Was trying to wait for the BigKick to come out & see the comparisons (esp. sturdiness) but am so tempted by the Cuttlebug. I've already purchased several of their dies (same thickness as the Sizzlits) and the smaller size & alphas works well in the Sidekick. I've heard good things about it in relation to the embossing & use of the big Sizzix dies, QK, etc. I don't have a 50% off coupon though - were they in the paper? Website?

Mine was in the Sunday newspaper. It has 3 separate coupons; Sunday, Nov. 5th only was 50% off one item, Mon.-Thur. Nov. 6-9, 40% off one item, Fri. & Sat. Nov. 10 & 11, 50% off one item. I haven't seen Michael's coupons like this in one week's ad in years. HTH

The machine itself was under $90, not on sale. I had no coupon. I hear that Michael's pricing is better all around on the machine and the dies, but it was NOT on store shelves at the Michael's I'd just come from prior to going to Joann's . . . so I couldn't compare . . .

gotcha! thanks, I was confused.

so how does this machine emboss? is it like the sizzix embossing folders? I kinda want something like the wizard, but less expensive, and that I can get in a local store w/ a coupon. I hate waiting for things to ship! and I love coupons!

anyway, just wondering about this machine. thanks
Michelle

Similar, except there are no brass templates involved!

Here I am!!!! Just back from lunch here at work (ooops, did I just say that out loud? Shhh, don't tell the boss ~ I just came from Michael's!!) From what I've seen here in Minnesota (Minna-snow-da today), both Michael's & Joann's have them on the shelves. Michael's prices are: cuttlebug $80.00 (50% coupon today = extra money for the dies). The dies and embossing folders range from $5.99 - $12.99 per package. Comparing dies with other major brands I was very impressed with the prices of these and for me that is a plus. Alphabets are $80.00 as well. The Provo Craft website of course has all the dies & embossing folders, while Michael's has a portion of them. Joann's carried the same ones as Michael's but were more expensive. So, round up your coupon's ladies and head for the nearest Michael's store while the coupons are a hot 50% off today and tomorrow. If you change your mind you can always return it, though it is such a cute little gizmo I don't know if you'll want to!

Hmmm, interesting. I might need one

So other than the color and the flip up thing, this is the same as the big shot?

I just hate that this seems to grip the table it's on like my sidekick which NEVER stays on and I have to suction it on after every die I run through.

Thanks everyone for additional comments [I hope I didn't hijack this thread!]. Now that I know how versatile this thing is, it's on my list too... but I gotta agree with Julie; it is SOOO much cuter than the big shot.

The platforms flip up for storage purposes ~ flip open for use, but also when you flip them open that is the mechanism that sucks it to the surface you place it on ie; desk top, table, counter, etc. there is a built in handle at the top for carrying it as well. Don't know the weight of it ~ but I'll post when I find out, unless someone else already knows.

Sorry, just a little vent of frustration . . .

One of the very frustrating aspects is that it takes forever to get their product onto retail store shelves. :? Drives me NUTS!

This product actually debuted at CHA Summer in July 06, and has taken all this time before finally arriving hit and miss around the country at various retail locations. They also don't even have it on their very own online retail store, creativexpress.com . . .

Now, I do know they are testing the reactions of retailers when they unveil products at these trade shows, and THEN, they go into *serious* production once they've determined it will indeed be a hot commodity . . . But, they hype it so far in advance that by the time it actually does become available, I've moved on to something else.

What killed me, is the Joann's I stopped at (it's the nearest at an hour away from my home), needs some serious lessons in display and staff training--it was in such an obscure spot, barely noticeable and very limited/small . . . the cashier didn't really understand what it was or what it could do. I don't know why that surprises me any more, but I just don't get it . . .

No idea on the weight, but love that it has a handle--looks like a little purse when it's all folded up! Geeze, I'm a sucker for purses . . .

Crafters on eBay are making and selling little "bug covers" for the Cuttlebugs and Cricuts to keep the dust off. Too CUTE!

Geeze, how does anyone stop playing with them, if they have one, long enough to let dust gather????

I've been using my BS like a possessed woman!

Does anyone know how this compares to the Big Shot? I just bought the Big Shot a month ago (not knowing something new was on the way) and so far I really like it. But...if this is a better product I might need to buy it too.

I *love* my BS. Much as I think the Cuttlebug is so stinkin' CUTE, and GREEN, and very very compact for storage and transport, I dunno if I'll actually spring for it . . . A lot will depend on how wide the feed is and whether or not it could take all my BS dies, since I recently spent a butt-load on those . . . meantime, it is gratifying to hear that their dies and embossing folders are compatible with other machines--they look VERY cool!!!

I'm thinking it'll have to have jammies!

I'm going to Micheals on Saturday... do I have any diecuts? NO. Do I have a dire need for a machine this weekend? NO. Do I gotta have one? YES! :-D

Julie,
The gal who demo'd for me told me that the CB platform is the same as the BS, just that the CB folds up. You can use the BS dies in the CB, and the thin sizzlets (I think that's what she called them) needed the little sizzlet adapter to make them a titch thicker to pass thru - she stated that you needed that adapter for use in the BS as well. Regardless, as long as you can use major brand dies in the BS as well, would a person really need the CB too?

I keep thinking, do I really need a $45 tool? Although we all know I'm worth it (who on this board isn't?), it seems excessive. So, I've decided it's gonna be a gift since I stayed on my diet this week (but I didn't lose a pound), I cooked dinner one nite (even though it was a pre-cooked rotisserie chicken), and I stayed in my budget (which is don't spend more than you have)!

If my Mike's doesn't have one tomorrow, I'm gonna SCREAM!

Ok, now I have to decide which dies I have to have.

Default Cuttlebug

Well I'm back from Mikes and feeling sad.
They had them on the shelf priced at $80. I checked out the dies and embossing folders and a few really were darn cute(little animals much like the new SU set w/monkey, lion) and the prices seemd reasonable.
BUT, when I went up to checkout they said it was from Cricut and I could not use the coupon, phooey!!!!!
So now I am miffed. Only got 2 new Christmas dollar stamps to play with.

I thought it was Provo Craft, not Cricut

oh, I'd be marching right back to that Michael's with my coupon in hand and going to another cashier. When I went there the cashier said the same thing to me. However, I pointed out that while it is made by the same company that MAKES the Cricut, it is entirely different than the Cricut. She looked at the box and said ~ "oh, you are right" and took the 50% coupon right out of my hand with a smile. No where on the coupon does it say that it "excludes" the Cuttlebug machine, die cuts, embossing folders or accessories. Nor does it "exclude" products from Provo Craft. They will have to honor your coupon. I hope your Michael's isn't too far away to at least try again! Good Luck!
