Hey, all. I'm thinking of having a booth at an annual craft fair at work. The proceeds benefit our newspaper's holiday fund for children.
I love the idea of doing wrapping paper (I want to do this for my own use anyway!). Does anyone know where I can buy stampable, plain white and/or kraft paper? I'd love to buy some rolls of it. I'd like it to be something that's thin enough (foldable, like regular wrapping paper). Or do people use butcher paper? That seems too thick to me, but maybe I'm weird. :shock:
I'd really prefer an online source, if one is available.
I have seen rolls at JoAnn Fabrics. Personally, last year, I used the rolls of kraft wrapping paper I got at Wal Mart where the packing supplies are located. It was kind of hard to work with because it is so heavy and didn't want to stay flat.
I, too, wonder if it's available pre-folded like the printed stuff is at the store.
My Dollar Tree store sells both kraft and white paper on a roll in the gift wrap section. It's perfect for stamping! And, at only $1.00 a roll, it's even better!
You can find 50 ft. and 100 ft. rolls of plain white, oatmeal color and brown kraft paper at Michaels in their gift wrap section. I bought 2 50 ft. rolls last week at $1.49 each--they were having a 50% sale on their kraft paper. Keep an eye out and you might be able to score some of these during their next special--you can't go wrong at those prices. HTH

I have bought huge rolls through Dick Blick on line. I don't remember the price but it wasn't much and it lasts forever! I have found lots of other uses for it as well.
It is a teeny bit sheer, but it looks great. I let my kids stamp away then somehow when it is wrapped on a package it looks super.
Purplewinkle, which paper roll did you buy at Dick Blick? The newsprint is REALLY cheap -- I'm thinking of ordering that. Is that what you bought? And was there much "show-through" of the gift that was wrapped?
I'm planning to do this as sort of my first big SU thing. I'm signing up to be a demo this week, and I figure that getting ready for this will help me get some practicing and some samples done. Then I'll be ready for some workshops!

The paper I bough was called easel roll. There was some show through, but not really a problem. I used it for my own personal use.
When I called to order the person was extremely helpful and recommenede this weight.
Overall, I am happy with this purchase. When I run out, I may check a few other places, but I like having a big roll, there is less waste, and it is so convenient having on hand all the time.
I am really leaning toward an online place. I just don't want to have to heft it, and I like to buy in bulk. I have a GIANT roll of kraft paper, which I actually used as packing material when we moved, but it's SUCH a heavy weight that I don't think it would be good for wrapping paper.
This easel roll sounds perfect, and I wouldn't have thought to look in the easel section.
Awesome! And if I get impatient, I can always trek to Michael's and get a smaller roll there. The SU stuff looked really good (and I KNOW it will be a great quality), but I really want a LOT of it to sell at the fair, and at $8 a roll, it's pretty steep. But if I see it, and I love it, I'll get it. I know it would be perfect quality.
On the left side, scroll down to packaging, then click on wrapping paper. They have both white and kraft.
I really wish SU had sold it last year. I'd rather have purchased from them. This does NOT mean I have any complaints from this company, just would rather have gotten from SU.
I don't know exactly how much quality you want but I use newsprint from the end rolls from our local paper. It is not pure white but then again you get it for practically nothing if you call your local paper and maybe free if you tell them it is for a charity.
I also get the end of the roll from the local newspaper. I pay $2.00 a roll. There is always quite a bit on a roll too. My kids draw on it. I make wrapping paper and I use it to cover my table when I stamp in the dining room. It is cheap and goes along way.

Our local newspaper also gives the ends away free if you just call first.
If I were buying, I would get it at Costco or BJ's.
They both have easel paper herein Baltimore.

In my case, I plan to stamp the paper and sell it for others to use. I'd think if you waited to stamp the package AFTER wrapping it, you'd be limited in how you could stamp, sometimes, depending on the folds of the paper, etc.
But in some cases -- if you wanted a certain placement, for instance -- you'd want to wait until it was wrapped. I hadn't thought of that before!
I probably will fold it, using the reasoning that people buy the folded stuff in sheets all the time. If I try to roll it, I know it will get little dents and creases that I don't want. And then there'll be the issue of how to keep it folded -- I won't want to tape it, and I'm not sure it would stay rolled if I only tried to tie it.
Plus, folded stuff would be MUCH easier to carry, I think. I'll have to get everything to my workplace, where the craft fair would be, without messing it up.
My neighbor works for the newspaper and brings them home for free for me. I use them for my stamping tables, our family craft table and for the toddler to color on as well as to make my wrapping paper with.
Check it out! I haven't had any trouble with the paper and it sure beats the heck out of paying TONS of money for a itsy bitsy roll.
