What do you do with Going Gray??
I know we all have certain colors we use more of and less of, but I'm getting quite a stack of Going Gray. I make an effort to use my other colors I don't get to much, but this one just doesn't inspire me.
Does anyone have ways that they LOVE to use Going Gray?
I made a recipe card for elephant stew...it's suppose to be a joke recipe...especially since I don't cook...and my name is Cook. but elephants are gray...you can check out my gallery...[/url]
Well, I just got the Stampin' Around Ink Cartridge of Going Gray, I figured it would give a light cute background with a wheel and I got the wheel that matches the IFB set. My upline says she used her going gray alot, so I decided why not get it and give it a try, course I just got it in the mail today so haven't got to do anything with it yet.

Hey...I resemble that remark! Man, it's a good thing I wasn't drinking something when I read this or I would have spewed or choked....and it would have been your fault! Too funny!!
Going gray ink is perfect for an outline for stamps instead of black especially for those "softer" images like the
'A New litte Someone' or the 'Gift of Spring' set. I use it often for subtle watercoloring outlines.
As far as the paper, I haven't used alot of it, but someone told me about using heat and stick with dazzling diamond glitter on gray to get a very pretty silver background paper. I haven't tried it yet.
I use grey for wedding cards. It is wonderful almost anywhere you would use black, like matting. It is not so harsh and stark as black. I also put it with the purples and pinks and greens and blues. I use it up as quickly as my other colors.
What an awesome "tip sheet" for your customers. Thanks for the info. on Stampin' Up!'s Going Gray. I find I don't use it much either, but will experiment now.

I have seen the gray ink used for an image and then the image stamped in black and colored and then a portion of the colored image punched and layered over the gray image for a spot-lighting technique.
As for the gray paper, I have never used so much as a sheet. Thanks everyone for such awesome ideas to use it. It will be my must try for the day.
I absolutely love Going Grey with Pretty in Pink and Positively Pink. I does look good with US White and Silver Embossing done, or with just the Silver metallic pads. Going Grey is a great color, if we just think outside the box a little. If you look in your catalog, I'm sure there are samples in there as well.
I like gray, pretty in pink, and black, looks great w/poodle in the paris in spring set. or w/popping pastels and a vintage set
I used this same color combo for a breast cancer card using Hope is.... in the fall. I embossed the heart in pink on black and put pink mulberry paper underneath, but on top of Going Gray. I'll find it and upload it.
I like to use the going gray with word sets to give them an outline look...creates depth and dimension. I have to use a stamp a ma jig to offset the top color word stamp a little so the gray still shows and the word stamp is straight. I think it is also great for creating shadow on watercolored images. I just posted a card yesterday with Going Gray & Mauve Mist. I used the reinkers to make a polished stone background, I was really pleased with it. I'll try to attach the link:
Another thought....do we have a Thursday Challenge? Could we have a Ways to Use It challenge where some SU item was picked and we tried to see how many different ways it could be used? One week could be going grey cardstock, ink, etc. another could be brads or ribbon or a certain punch...you get the idea.
OK, this is the wrong time of year, but my demonstrator made the cutest Halloween card at one of her stamp camps and I modified it a little bit using the Going Gray paper. You sponge with the cloud stencil in gray ink for a spooky sky, then use the seasonal shapes to make a bat shape, cut that out, and sponge around the edges in black to make a bat outline in the gray sky. Stamp the face on the bat and edge the card with either brilliant blue, lovely lilac, green galore, only orange, or tempting turquoise. I think this card is adorable!!! I used up all my Going Gray to make a stack of these! Hope the picture comes through OK. Oh, by the way, the moon was made using the ring from a wide-mouth canning jar!
I like Going Grey, Black and White as well as Going Grey, Black and Barely Banana. I think just about any of the Soft Subtles with Black would look nice with the Going Grey.
When you bleach going grey it turns a flesh tone. I've embossed an image with a person in it (like the angel from the Winter hostess set) then bleached what would be the flesh areas. For the angel I used pastels for her dress and Pearl Ex for her wings. It was very nice looking, elegant. Just be sparing on the bleach. If you overdo it the bleach will seep underneath the embossing.
