Default Pastel Emergency!

I can't believe it! I opened my pastels this morning and the container fell apart scattering my chalks around my tiny workroom. I finally found all of them but I have to get ahold of my consultant to make sure that I'm arranging them properly, matching the colors to the code in the lid, but then, the plastic hinge/tab doohickey on the box is broken anyway, so they'll probably just fall out again . . .and again . . .and again!

Yipes!!! I am sorry to hear of your bad luck. Did the container come broken? If so, I'd have your demo call demonstrator support and see what she can do for you!

Good luck!

Call Demo. Support. They might replace the container for you. My marker case was broken when I received it and they replaced just the case.

I'm sorry that your case is broken. :( Do you think you can rig something to fix it? I had issues with my Pastel case last weekend. I had a really hard time getting it to open and when I finally did, all the chalks when flying into the air and landed across the room! Lucky for me none of then broke, but I'm not sure I have all the colors back in the right spot either.

Ouch! my daughter did the same trick with my brand new set of pastels - all over the dining room floor! Good news is - they still work great! Getting them into the right spot may still be tricky. I used the faint residue on the foam liner to match mine up - It worked pretty well - I ended up ordering 1 or 2 new replacement squares to take care of the ones I wasn't sure of. sounds like you may be using a rubber band to secure the lid from now on. No harm done - just a big mess and inconvenience, mostly.

The exact same thing happened to me. Not only did I have trouble placing the tiles of chalk in the correct place, several of them broke! I would like to replace those that are broken, but the way they are sold (in groups of colors), it probably would be cheaper to buy a whole new set. They really need a light adhesive to hold them in place! :(

You know what's really bad? As soon as I saw the topic header I knew exactly what the "emergency" was going to be! Looks like there needs to be some re-engineering of the pastel case, because it seems like this flying across the room thing happens to people more often than not (although not to me -- yet -- knock on wood).

My guess is that they aren't glued in so that you can buy the refill sets and then replace the cakes one by one as they are used up.

I had always thought the pastel case was difficult to open until I figured out that I was opening it wrong.

I was opening it from the front, but I quickly figured that you have to open it from the two sides; sort of like a CD case... Opens up alot easier this way!

I've had this for about a year and never had trouble opening it. Not quite sure how the thing broke off, but a rubberband might work until I can get a new box. Unfort, my demo doesn't feel this is as much of an emergency as I do . . .so 'some time next week' we'll sort it out together. Why won't the world stop and take care of my petty problems? Don't they know I waited til the last minute to do my Easter cards?????

Mamalanie,
I'm so sorry about your pastel "crisis"! It hasn't happened to me (yet) but
I feel the day will come. I love the pastels but I've NEVER been happy
with the design of the case. I think what happened to you happens to lots
of people. Sorry, again!

I've had this happen twice (the 2nd time my DS got a hold of it on my desk... and... you know). I used the foam protector to help me find where the right pastels go. Because it has a color residue on the foam, I could kinda see where the right colors when back to.
Later I took it to my Uplines house and found that I almost got all of them right. Hope that helps you!!

Foam? I have no foam! Wonder where THAT went? I don't even remember it. I guess I'll have to be creative and use some other techniques for a few days. Thanks for all your support!

I had the same idea. After dropping my pastels 3 or more times I finally ordered a new set. I tested with a bit of rubber cement on the old yucky set. After about 2 weeks and no harm done I felt comfortable gluing my brand new set.

I guess only time will tell. But I wish I had called DS first.

Good tip about opening it on the side!

This is interesting as I thought I was the only one who had ever had the pastels fly out. I did it when my set was new and several broke. I tried to match the colors, but had to call my demo and she brought her set over and I rubbed them on paper to compare with hers. Now I am VERY careful with them. Don't want to do that again. They need a better design or make the chalks more snug in each square.
