Sorry for the vague subject line, but it was either that or a paragraph long!!

With regards to the 50% off stamp sets, are demos allowed to buy as many as they want, keep them as stock, and then sell them to customers down-the-road as full-priced sets?

The reason I ask is that I keep seeing threads where people are debating whether or not they want or need a certain half-price set. It seems that for as many people that say they ADORE a set, there is somebody who can take it or leave it. That says to me that there is a customer for every set in that catalogue -- somewhere, sometime, maybe not now, but down the road.

I know it's a risk to purchase something with the idea being to sell it later (and therefore be carrying stock), but I'm wondering if this is even allowed? SU! seems to be pretty strict about certain things that other home-sales companies (that I have been involved with, anyway) are not. So I thought I'd better ask!

The only item a Demo is allowed to cash and carry is the the Idea Book and Catalog. We are NOT allowed to purchase sets, cardstock, inks, etc in order to sell later (stocking up). Plus, I personnaly won't do something like this because it seems a bit unethical. I am sure there are many demos doing this and selling on Ebay but SU will pull your demoship and I won't take that kind of chance. I love the company too much to risk it.

I am not a demo, but I don't think this should be allowed to happen. I am probably one of those people in the threads about whether or not to get the 1/2 off sets, but I truly don't know whether I should purchase them or not, I like them - but I don't.

My understanding is that demos can only buy one of each set. We are not allowed to "carry stock" and the only way we could sell them later (at any price) is if they retired.

If you are a demo, have you joined the demo forum? ON the left side of the Home Page click on Join a User Group. This is the type of business question that is discussed there. HTH.

I would NOT do this. SU! does not allow us to to keep stock on hand to sell. Also, I don't think that this would be a "honest" thing to do to your customer. I am NOT trying to say that you are by any means dishonest!!!! If I were to buy a set at half price, I would pass that savings along to my customer.

I am a brand new demo and still awaiting my demo #, so I haven't yet seen the demo forum or anything. I'm sorry if I am posting questions that will be answered for me once I get into the demo forums! I'm not being very patient! ! :lol:

Not a good idea....SU! does not want their Demos to "carry inventory" -- not to mention the fact that selling at full-price when you only paid half would be totally dishonest, I only ordered the half off sets that I would really use to promote my business, if down the road I no longer want them, then I'll sell them at a "previously loved" discount. The rule from SU is NO-you can't buy sets and sell them at a later date. This is cash and carry and we don't do it ( I kno wmany companies do, but not SU). Especially buying them at 1/2 price and then selling them as full price. Not only against SU rules, but not really fair to the customer. It would be like demos having an old SAB sets that make it into the catalog and when a customer orders it, pocketing the extra money and giving them the free set they had on hand. :(

I dont think you can put more than one of each set on your order anyway. a customer tried ordering 2 sincere salutations, on for her and one for her daughter. the software wont allow 2 on an order.

I'm not a demo, but I think the 'no cash & carry' rule probably ends up saving demos a lot of money. Some direct sales companies (like Tupperware) encourage demos to buy for resale & on the TW boards you see tons of demos trying to unload their excess inventory cheap! I've also heard of a lot of Mary Kay demos who were stuck with 'old' product when Mary Kay changed packaging & products without notice. At least with SU, you KNOW when the new catalog is coming out & you're not stuck with a bunch of inventory you purchased for resale.

Aside from eithics and SU policy, it would be risky to 'stock up' on sale sets. You might end up with extra sets that would be tying up your precious cash.

Save your money for legitimate supplies like catalogs, cardstock for workshops etc.

I intend to buy one of each set and give it away at a WS. I enter everyone's name (who orders or books a WS) in a drawing and someone gets lucky! SO I'll be buying at least 1-2 of each set for this very purpose. It saves me a bunch of money and they love it!

One other perspective - while I absolutely agree that to cash-and-carry is not only against policy, but unethical as well - there is another reason a demonstrator might have made comments about selling it later.

When there are great deals (such as 50% off), I am much more likely to buy a set that I don't LOVE, but that might come in handy for a demo or two... of course, I always rationalize this by reminding myself that I can ALWAYS sell it later (when it is retired) and make nearly all of the money spent back. Of course, this wouldn't be with multiples of the SAME set!

This obviously isn't cash-and-carry but does play into how I think about getting new sets that I know I won't use a lot.
