Default Die Machines and Fiskars Texture Plates

Does anyone know if the Big Shot or Cuttlebug or other simple die cut machine can emboss papers using the Fiskars texture plates? I'm leaning towards the Big Shot because its the most afforadable, but love the Cuttlebug designs.

Anyhoo, if you have any info or tips about using the texture plates, please let me know.

Thanks

I have only tried it a couple of times - just to test it - but yes, the Fiskar Plates can be used in the bug.

Okay....question. By "Fiskars Texture Plates" are we talking about the plastic ones that are dual sided? If so......SHOOT! Because then I'll have to buy a Big Shot or CuttleBug! Doggone it! I have these plates and have used them a FEW times, but would like an easier way to do them!

You can use the Fiskars embossing plates and quite a few other things. Check this link out, she explains how to emboss just about anything!

http://ellenhutson.typepad.com/ellen....html#comments

I've never posted a link so I have no idea if this will work or not.

I literally screamed when I found this out, thanks to EllenH! I have 3 packages of those puppies and now I can actually use them! Woohoo! I use the 2 tan pads from the Wizard Charm Embossing Kit. They impressions aren't as deep as the cuttlebug embossing folders, but they're still so pretty! A whole new world!

I'm bummed because my embossing starter kit for my Big Shot is backordered.

My question is for those of you who own the Big Shot: do you use the big Shot embossing starter kit or did you come up with some other way to use the Fiskars plates?

Thanks!

How would I emboss with these in my sizzix? Do I need something to make the sandwich? What about when I'm using the cuttle bug embossing folders? I can't wait to see how this works.

Hey I saw on Joanns.com that the starter kit for the big shot is back in stock, and on sale just 15.99. Merry christmas. I am so excited to try this, I have those plates and was thinking of giving to my dd to do color crayon etches with. Glad I didn't .

I have the Big Shot and use the Wizard tan rubber sheets to emboss with the Fiskars' plates. It works great to mist it a bit with water before running it through. You get a deeper impression. It isn't as deep as the cuddlebug folders but does work.

Thanks to everyone for letting me know. I was really starting to believe the texture plates were a waste of money, because they are such a pain to use.

For those who have used the Big Shot or Cuttlebug with the Texture Plates, can you give a list of supplies needed or any tips.

Thanks!!!

Check out these codes for Joanns! You can get 50% off on the Big Impressions starter kit!

http://www.couponcraze.com/coupons/joann/

I tried using the code and it did apply the discount! Woo hoo!

I tried applying the 50% off on some Thick Cuts alpha's but they wouldn't apply since they are on sale. : ( Doesn't hurt to try!

Do they work in the Sizzix? Just got myself a Sizzix for Christmas (I've wanted one for years) and now I am looking for other ways to use the machine other than just dies. TIA

Get the Big Shot and use the Cuttlebug dies and folders in it. The Big Shot costs less, is way more durable, accomodates just about any die or folder, and comes with the starter kit.

I really have to stop coming to SCS, all of you are enabling me right to the poorhouse. Started with the Big Shot,my first diecut machine, so of course I needed to buy some dies, now I own lots of Sizzix, Ellison, and Cuttlebug dies. Next came the multi-platform, the big Impressions starter kit, the Wizard Embossing kit, all the cuttlebug embossing folders :O.
and now you just "made" me buy the Fiskars texture plates.
I popped onto eBay to just check them out, not to buy any...yeh right!!!
anyway, I got 12 plates (24 designs) with a free tool for $15.00 NIP.
I have seen them in the stores but never really looked at the prices, so I hope that was a good deal.
I have really been bitten by the embossing bug!
Now I really have to get off this site before I see anything else I "must" have

Lorie
I already bought the stardust pens, I bought the clear and loved it so much I ended up buy them all, along with the quickie glue pen.
I did get the cuttlebug scalloped squares and the flower ones that look like scallops. AND the sizzix scalloped rectangle and oval. Not sure if I will get the punches because I have a hard time using them, don't have a lot of strength in my hands.

I am confused on how to use the Fiskars plates with my Cuttlebug. I try doing them exactly like I do the embossing folders, but it doesn't want to go through the machine and I don't want to force it and break something. How do you use the fiskars, do I need something else? Refering to the post #22 Joann's has the fiskars plates for 12.99 I did use a 50% off coupon today to get mine. Now I just need help on how to use them.

Thanks for your help
Kim

I am going to have to look at the cuddlebug and Big shot. Are these units something you would want to have if you already have a sizziz?

I totally would go with the big Shot. It is so easy to use! I've had no problems with it yet. I do recommend, however that you also get the multipurpose platform and the Big Impressions starter kit for embossing.

Joann's has all of that on sale right now, plus free shipping. I have been able to use my sizziz big dies, little sizzlits, accucut's zip'e slims, zip'e cuts, and quickutz dies in my Big Shot with absolutely no problems. I also can cut lightweight chipboard with all of those dies with the Big Shot!

Go for it!

If you are happy with your Sizzix, the Cuttlebug and Big Shot would not be a great investment of your cashola, as they all do the same things. If, however, you are unhappy with how heavy and how difficult the Sizzix is to use, and you find that you are using it less often than you would like as a result, then investing in a roll-through machine like the Big Shot or the Cuttlebug might be something you'd want to consider.

Personally, with all the cracked B plates, broken handles, suction problems, etc etc that I've heard of with the Cuttlebug, I'm going with the Big Shot.

I totally agree. I never used my Sizzix, but the Big Shot is so easy and fun, I find that I use it a lot more! And, no broken plates yet!

I found this awesome video online that walks you through the sandwich needed to make fiskars texture plates work with your big shot.

I don't believe that they do. The texture plates are too wide for the original sizzix machine.
