Which are some of the best SU sets that you like for making cards for the men in your life? Whether they are friends, family or significant others.
My DH was looking through my card box (where he can pick up a pre-made card and stamp a sentiment for a co-worker for family member) and he mentioned that I needed some more masculine cards.
I have tons of floral sets, but nothing neutral or male gender exclusive.
Well this is a great month to ask, because I think the Lovely as a Tree set (50% off this month only!! :lol: ) is a great set for masculine cards. I use it quite a bit for that purpose & have heard many of my customers mention that is the reason they liked this set as well.
I recently made a card for one of my husband's friends out of my scraps. It only uses a greeting stamp but I think it has a nice clean cut look appropriate for a man. Don't know if it's your style or not, but figured it was worth a mention. I've attached a link to the card.

I love Lovely as Tree for Masculine cards! this set is so versatile, it can be used all year round and it looks great with "maculine" colors--and it's 1/2 price now
I also use it for sympathy cards, fall cards, Chritmas cards.... :lol:

I like Roughing It, Wonderful Wings, and seasonal stamps. Using more the Earth Elements, or brilliant blue most cards can be more masculine. Using hemp, or other rustic embellishments certainly is great. Then for the younger 'men' Toy Box, All Wrapped Up and Pocket Fun.
For masculine cards I use Yukon, Wildfowl, & Lovely As A Tree. Retired sets that I use are Vivid Greetings (Happy Birthday saying), Wolf, Bugs & Slugs.

The guys in my family are into cars and sports so I usually use Classic Convertibles or Sporting goods. I have also seen some nice cards made with Coast to Coast.
I am too lazy to get up and check my catalog :oops: (I really should know the name of it but I am "brain farting"), but there is a nice animal set (Wild Things?) that is a good masculine set. I also have Serengheti (sp?) which I believe is retired.
I also agree with the rest that Lovely as a Tree is also a good one - and the timing is great. If anyone checks out the gallery for this set I am sure they will not be able to resist!!!
Tracy, your "scrap" creation is a good masculine card. Great idea!

--Fantastic Foliage
--Calm Seas (retired, though anything w/ boats or lighthouses will work)
--Fly Fishing (retired, but "Angler" would also work)
--Feathered Hope (or anything else with birds/fowl)
--Loads of Love (Hey, it has a TRUCK in it!)
--Sensational Scenery (retired, think "Lovely As a Tree" will become a new favorite)
I think anything nature-related works well. The new "Office Ephemera' would work for the more "scholarly" too. I've been trying to add a few sets that are more guy oriented to my collection after realizing about 3/4 of mine are floral or more "girly." So what did I just order? Three more "girly" sets.
Ah well...I've got my eye on three that could go either way for next month. LOL

Alright, alright I'll have to get the "Lovely as a Tree" set. I've been resisting, but now I must surrender. I have seen some beautiufl cards already with the set.
I do think that another good one is definitely "Loads of love". I love the cute "Little pick up truck". I mainly got it back in December because of the truck. Oh and "Balmy Breezes" would be another good set as well.

I have the retired set All Aboard. I think it is very masculine.
I was thinking the same thing a month or so ago, but decided to do a search for masculine cards in the gallery on this site. I found lots of cards I loved that used stamps from sets I already owned. So, I made a bunch of those cards and purchased more sets that I like instead!
I used the present stamp and leaf stamp from Sketch An Event, Lovely As A Tree, the leaf from All I Have Seen SAB 2005 set, and made candles from the Paint Prints SAB 2005 set. There are tons of great ideas in the gallery - most of them use darker, bolder colors and that makes all the difference in the cards.
Hope that helps, or at least gives you something else to consider.
If you want to get sets that can be masculine but aren't too restrictive, go for the nature sets (like Lovely As A Tree) with Earth Elements for color, and they look great.
Also In The Wild is a great set and can be made masculine, feminine, cutesy, or formal... it's one of the most versatile sets I have. And I didn't even LIKE it at first, til I started seeing all the samples.

I like the classic convertibles and have had my eye on fire brigade for a while since so many people in my life are firemen (my daddy and all his buddies I grew up with!)
I love making masculine cards. I have the following sets that I use for many of them: Fantastic Foliage, Lovely as a Tree, Classic Convertables, Noble Deer, Celtic Knots, Wolfs, Coast to Coast, Bareback, the man and boy from Seaside Sketches (great for Father's Day), Jazzed Up and the Jazz wheel, Good Sport for sports fans, I've also used Close to Nature for masculine cards (all except the flower), Great Outdoors wheel. That covers it for stamps...I also go with Earth Element cardstock and have used the Tudor designer paper, mainly the stripes...also like the blue grey striped paper from Victorian for men too..And of course I use my $1 Michael's Martini stamp too... OH....I almost forgot from the current and last mini catalog, I purchased the extreme sports sets....can't think of the names off the top of my head, but snowboarding, skateboarding and mountain biking.... Can you tell...I love making cards for men too....
