I always do the inexpensive blank cards/envelopes that I can get in a package of 40-50 from a craft store, and then use SU colored CS and inks, so that I have a whole card, but didn't spend a fortune on the bulk of the CS.

I think the Christmas "postcard" is a cute idea...I had never really thought about it, but it is something that I may consider...especially if the card front is embellished and has lots of "stuff" on it. You could just sign the back and be done with it.

Kudos to you for getting started early...I'm always "cramming" at the last minute...it just seems to sneak up on me.

Good luck!

I send the whole card to the people I know don't appreciate it, they just don't get fancy ones.

My first Christmas making SU! cards, my DH(!!!!) helped me make these over-the-top cards (didn't even take a pic and don't have any leftover). They were 6x6 with about 4 layers, including mulberry, eyelets, ribbon AND cord, and the image was watercolored. I didn't realize until I had finished all of them that SU! didn't sell 6x6 envelopes and hadn't figured out the cello bag option, so I hand-made envelopes for each out of non-SU! CS. I gave these to everyone on our list. They were great, but never again!

Last year, I did a super simple design (Forest Foliage stamped on US Vanilla and spot glittered--it was the tree/deer scene from A Beautiful Season), layered with brushed gold and/or Forest Foliage and placed on FF or Vanilla CS. It was simple, but I was really proud of it. (I had to laugh when I got a card in reply from a friend's mom--a stamper--with a note saying that she made the same card at a Stamp Camp--and I thought it was an original idea! ha! :? ) I also made some with fewer layers for folks who might not care as much. Then I made a postcard (intended to be a postcard) on plain white stamped in Brilliant Blue) for my clients and printed a greeting on the back. Like many others, I also used store-bought cards for the people who might not care (business associates, DH's friends).

I think any of these options are great and agree that the unappreciative can just bite me if they don't like what I make. Although...most of my family and friends probably wouldn't dare say anything. I have to admit that I've been fortunate in that no one has ever criticized my handmade goodies and several people do make positive comments, so I feel rather blessed by that.

Yikes, didn't mean to babble so much. What I meant to say was "go for it!"

Best,
Shannon

One of my good friends is a SU demo and two years ago sent a really cool "card" but it didn't open so it was similar to what you said. On one side was the stamped image (she used the "trees" and did it so there was a reflection....I don't know the name of the stamp set but I can scan it if you want to see what I'm talking about) and on the other side was a picture of her family with their holiday greeting. She then put a ribbon through the top so you could easily hang it if you wanted to. It was very pretty and I am a picky person and wasn't the least bit offended by it not being a traditional card

Default card fronts

I make a 'post card type' of card for Christmas as well as some birthdays and send them in the clear envies. Address the back, write a small greeting and they're ready to go. I don't do this to save cardstock....just 'cause I like the way they look.

I think that you send a card to keep in touch and let another person
know you are thinking of them and hold them in high esteem. Send what you like. Invest only what time and resources you choose. THen your part is done. You have no say in whether a person 'appreciates,' 'keeps,'
is 'worthy,' . . .

Do only what you choose and choose only what you will do.

I ALWAYS send card fronts. The back usually has a picture of the kids on it, but I always receive great feedback. I honestly don't think people care one way or another. I'm sure they're just thrilled to hear from you and receive your beautiful handmade card. Good luck with your choice.
