Hello, I have been stamping for a little while now and have all the SU stampin spots, and the blender pens. I am having a hard time breaking out the checkbook for the full set of 48 markers.... Any good Michael's substitutes? I also thought about the set of 24 sharpies( for coloring not to use on the stamps). They have great colors, but will it matter if they are not "exact" matches to the SU cardstock? Any Advice? THANKS!
Don't know of any substitutes - however, what about getting them in the color families (set of 12)? That way you don't have to shell out for all of them at once. If you order them in each color family - the 12 will come in their own case. This way you will be able to have each color family separate.
Also - what about doing a marker club? All you would have to do is get 3 other friends for this. You each spend roughly $30 (not including s/h & tax) and one person each month gets the whole set. Then the next month someone else gets the whole set, etc until you each have the whole set, but only had to spend $30 per month/4 months to get it.
Just an alternative to having to buy them all at once.

well if you are in Mike's skip the Zig's-I had a LOT of dried up ones and the fine tip stunk! :(
I broke down and got the SU ones buy color family and just popped them in the zig box as I got them.
I wish I had saved the initial money on teh Zig's and gone for quality 1st

I have heard numerous stories of people having lost caps on markers that were found much later and still never dried up. I know people who use their markers a lot. They still haven't dried out. Once I bought mine I found I used them more than I thought I would.
I bought mine by color families also. The shock wasn't so bad when I put each set on an order and I have one set left to get!! I did have them all in the old style, which is what I save for my kids to use and the 4-H kids when they are over, but those were bought individually!!
I'm in the process of getting all the markers, too. I have 2 of the color families so far. It's actually .15 cheaper to buy them in sets of 12 rather than buy all 48 at once, which I find strange. Buying them one by one is more expensive, though. I think they're worth the investment, personally.
I LOVE my markers. So far I have just bought 2 - color families, Bold Brights and Soft Subtles to use with More Petal Prints and the Art of Life. Now I find myself using them all the time, more than I ever thought. I would say, buy them as you can in the 12 packs. I love how them fit nice and neat in a drawer and that way you can try them out by picking out the color family you use the most. I also have a bunch of Michael's markers and I feel as they were a waste of money as they don't coordinate and just sit in the drawer.
I too LOVE my SU markers and the fact that all the SU cardstock, inks and markers match. I tend to use the bold brights quite a bit and purchased that whole set. Now I'm slowly adding more of the other colors; however, if you have the ink spots and a blender pen, there's no rush in getting the entire collection of markers. Just my 2 cents.
Remember, You can also buy the SU ones ONE at a time. $2.95 each I think. I never knew this for the longest time but now just buy one here, buy one there, they are starting to add up!
For someone like me I think that's a great benefit!
IMO there is nothing that compare to SU's markers. I have about 8 of them and they are awesome. I just buy one or two at a time in my favorite colors to build up!
SU markers....what can I say (I should start by saying that I am a demo)...I love the markers!!! I also have all 48 inkpads but, the markers are wonderful! I love them for card making, but nothing beats doing a scrapbook page and being able to journal in the EXACT same color. They work wonderfully! All of my customers love them. The problem that I find is that they have a terrible time deciding on what colors to get first...
And, the thing that convinced me that I had to have them (as unreasonable as it sounds) is that a customer of mine had ordered a set of BB's I got them and took one look at them and they looked so darned pretty all together like that, that I HAD TO HAVE THEM! And, I don't regret it!
You MUST have the SU markers! If you are a demo, start a marker club, that's what I did. $30 a month was much less painful than coming up with the full price of the markers at one time. If you're not a demo, ask your demo about doing one.
Some girlfriends and I got together and order 1 Complete set of markers and a pack of paper each maonth for 4 months, that way it was cheaper and it was a quailified workshop and we each got a hostess set and some free stuff. It was alot gentler on the checkbook that way. Hope this helps.

I broke down and purchased the complete set, and it was definately worth it. I tried using markers that I purchased from Michael's and they don't compare.
I bought the full set of SU markers and I love them and use them all the time. I have all the sharpies and I don't like them as much plus they are more dry than the SU ones... They are an expensive investment but one that is well worth it for sure.
I purchased the color familes one at a time too. I just got the last set last week ! I love that they match the other supplies. I think they are well worth the investment!

One reason they are a little more (.15) to get the 48 at once is the case they come in. It's a pretty nice case. I also have the ones from Zig and I am getting the SU ones next month. The Zig ones will go to my kids.

I would buy the markers all at once if you can or do the marker club, because then you get the case to put it in.
And the other great thing is that since you can buy them separately too, if one ever got lost or ruined or dried out, you could replace it, you can't do that with other marker sets.
Plus they match, come on, you know that rocks!

I bought my markers at Michael's - the 12 paks of LePlume II (sp?) are only $12 if you use the 40% off coupon. It took a few weeks (7 actually) to buy all seven sets of LePlume markers, but I think they're great.
sets are: basic, primary, brights, pastels, (which pretty closely match the four SU groups), plus garden, renaissance and victorian

I bought the full set of markers when I became a demo...and I lovethem! Remember, you will use them a lot to color in the stamp, huff, then stamp...they are soooo handy for that! You just can't beat the versatility. I have many other brands I bought before becoming a demo, and ours are by far the best. I would be honest and tell you if they weren't! But they ARE!!! :!:
Hope you can get them, if you want to really save, get your favorite colors first, and then when you can get the sets you'll have an extra of your faves!

First I bought markers at Michaels with coupons. They didn't quite coordinate all the time, but I didn't care.
Then- the colors I used most ran out. Well, gee, if that happens with SU! markers, you can order just the ONE new one. Faced with getting repeats of pens I didn't use if I rebought sets at Michaels, I bought the SU! markers and gave my sister the old ones that still worked.
And I got them all at once - the only way to get the cool case they stand up in.

I finally got the set of 48 markers at my club workshop last year. They are really wonderful. I love to have the writing inside the card coordinate with the ink colors on the outside. I took mine out of the case and they are sitting in their acrylic holder on my stamp table. I'm always reaching for them. I say find a month when it will be worth your while to purchase them all. Like sell-a-bration or if you are in a stamp club, order them on your month, so that you will feel like you are getting the most benefit from your dollars. Or like the other SCSers said, join a marker club.
I just wanted to state that it is worth the money to get the set if you can. Mydemonstrator started a marker club which is how I did it. Also, I just love it when colors coordinate. There is nothing worse than working hard on a card and the marker colors and card stock colors just don't match properly.
I would really recommend the SU! markers. Marvey makes a nice marker, and I know that somewhere on this site you can find a comparison chart of marvey colors to SU! colors, but they aren't any cheaper. In the end, I think you and your pocketbook will do better with SU!. Suzanne

I just bit the bullet and bought the entire set of the SU markers - DH doesn't know yet... maybe he never will... anyway after reading all the wonderful things about the markers I just had to get them all (type A personality, guess I'm doomed, though, really not me DH is doomed)
I had markers that were about 5 yrs old, not SU! ones. I finally let the kids have them to use. I was definitely not interested in buying anymore. UNTIL, I used my demos and I was hooked. I broke down and bought them. I'm so thrilled that I did. I love them!!
I just tried to find any info on the website but couldn't - well, I know they don't say it officially but thought maybe I'd find some discussion.
Hopefully someone else might remember.
My first thought is that it's not worth it, unless you just let the marker out to dry by mistake when it's new. The one pen I have that's been used a lot, the brush tip is getting mushy just a little, so I'll replace it when it's dry. And the markers alone are cheap, just $2.50 - which is comparable to good markers even in Michaels.

I bought the markers all at one time. They come in a great carrying case and I JUST LOVE THEM! My mom used mine, then she went home and finished her project with her Ziggy's. She ended up coming back to my home to use mine. She was sold on the SU markers. They are the way to go!
