What kind of food containers do you save,and what do you use them for.
Tips on what food containers can be used for What?
Lets see how many differant food containers people save and what they use them for.Some people have all kinds of ideas on saving money and stampin on certain containers.then store scrap book or stamppin items or supplies in.Or use them as gifts to give to someone with something in it.Lets talk about what food containers we can save and how everyone uses them here.
I cut the lower bottom portion of a capri sun box to hold cards in.The cardboard is really thick.and once covered with designer papers ribbons these make a nice box to hols cards in.
The plastic cups that little kiddies get at some local restaraunts and the kids take home .cover with paper add ribbons embellisments put on thier desk at home for pencils,markers,school supplies.you can make it to any theme they want wether it's school related or a theme that is already in thier room.

It's someone who buys stamps they didn't normally like at first,only to see it in Split Coast Stampers gallery in a different perspective.
mine is corny....I save my dog food cans.....I wash and dry them and then use wall paper from sample books to cover and ribbon, ribbon charms and sizzix or sizzlets letters to decorate. I use painty pens to paint the tops and bottoms and give as pen/pencil holders.
I also save styrofoam (sp?) meat things that have a flat bottom on the inside to use for any bleach technique. I put a pad of paper towles on the bottom and pour in bleach or use the bleach pen. then I can throw the whole thing away when I'm done.
I use plastic dixie cups to hold paint and throw those away when done.
Yogurt containers....the kind with plastic lids. I love those things for everything. I also save the resealable (kinda like tupperware) containers that some lunchmeats come in now. Those are so handy for everything...hehe.
I have saved a Grits container (DH favorite) and decorated it to hold scissors, exactos, ruler---tall stuff.
I saved the container from the big Spring Greens salad mix you get from Costco, and that just about holds anything.
Baby food jars for bit and pieces of ribbon or buttons.
Also from Costco-it's a Bowtie Spinach salad that comes in a plastic bucket with a lid and handle. I've saved a few, but not sure what to do with them. Most likely dress them up and give as gifts or hostess gifts.
I love being able to reuse what was once used and most people would just throw away. =-)
I save the salad contaniers from the Deli section and cut the tops in an X shape and store my loose ribbons in color groups in them. I have the ends sticking out of the top for easy access.
I bought 12 pk mason jars so that they are all the same size and lids are all same. Now I'm keeping jam jars speghetti sauce jars/etc to put behind for various embellishments. Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
Not food but I keep plastic jars film comes in to put small embellishments, buttons etc inside each jar.
I also keep swiffer wet containers because the cover is see through. I have one for the current project I'm working with, one for adhesives and one for stickers. I will use more as I collect them. They fit my cupboard perfectly Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

How about the Crystal Light cups? They're good for mixing small amounts of paintl or ModPodge.
While at Archiver's last week I saw they were selling small, empty bottles for $5. Not even all that cute! The label just said Little Things (or something like that) I would rather buy the cute milk bottle full of primas for $8. But I guess they think we'll buy anything, LOL!
The new Gerber plastic tubs, great for storing embellishments. Let me think & I'll be back! ;)
I use thes tubs for storing my punched shapes or smaller parts of assembly line cards. I just did a bunch of cards for teachers at the end of last year using the scalloped edged rectangle from Label Classics with some punched circles from Little Pieces. I kept all the cut out rectangles and circles in the tubs so they weren't a mess everywhere. With the lids, they stack nice, and being clear, you can see what's in them.
I love those little Gerber tubs. I own none, but have thought about buying the baby food and throwing it away for the tubs. My kids are 19 and 21 and I tell them I am still too young to be a grandma. : )
I save the black plastic trays that frozen entrees come in. I am a demo and they are the perfect size to pass a small stamp (a couple of alpha letters or an EFP word) and an open ink pad in.
I had trouble of my small stamp blocks becoming very inky (I sealed them but after a while it bled through) and then the stampers fingers would get inky. Since I have started doing this not only are my stamp blocks and people's fingers cleaner, but the stamp and pad stay together better (and I appear to be organized).
Most of my container recycling is for gift giving. I prefer heavy crystal clear plastic containers. Rice and nut containers often fit the bill--they also have nice colorful wide mouth screw on tops. Also, I use some of the "ready cut" items in the veggie section of the grocery store which often times come in wonderfully clear sturdy plastic with snap on lids. I bake alot and like to give cookies and mini-muffins. My husband loves all kinds of nuts and I tend to buy in bulk to have them on hand to give away. I most recently used one of my large screw lid containers to fill with my dads favorite cookies while he is in re-hab. It is cheery item in a very dreary space. It is small enough to fit on the dresser and he doesn't have to worry about someone breaking it. The container below I gave during teacher appreciation week. I filled it with pistachios.
I also use the Mason jars (or washed-out spaghetti sauce jars), but I put my non-SU alphabets in there, and my non-SU Christmas set for last year's cards.

It's an alligator. I was in Florida killing time until I needed to be at the Miami airport to catch a flight to Chicago. My friends and I went on an Everglades excursion. I had the chance to hold an alligator, so I did it. I think I had the guts to do it because I was still giddy from my first (but not last) cruise. : )
This week end we went to visit family in Alabama and I found a new dog food (new to us) in the prettiest plastic containers. It is a can type food called Beneful. I have seen the dry before, but this is different. Anyway, the containers are rectangle shape and are made of a white clear like plastic with bright colorful lids. They have a different color for each flavor; purple, orange, pink, yellow and aqua. I do not know what I will use them for yet, but I will use them.
Love the large, clear plastic containers from Costco (in a previous lifetime they held Kirkland Trail mix, cookies, salads). They are great for holding markers, large BG stamps, re-inkers, or whatever!

Target has some great round containers that contain Asian mix, nuts, pretzel mix, others, too. They are all a target brand with a green label. Some of them have metal lids although it looks like the newer ones have a silver plastic lid. The metal lid ones look like something Martha Stewart might have, only in plastic. They are great for all kinds of things.

Last year at Christmas time my family "had" to keep eating pirouette cookies...because they come in a tall round tin! And the paper inserts make perfect templates! I decorated one for a snack container for my desk at work. I also used a regular standard sized can to make a cute pencil holder for my desk.
I purchased a different brand of bacon than my normal just for the plastic container it came in! It works perfectly for my extra prismacolor pencils and stumps and other things like that - it is very handy!
I do love the Baby food plastic containers... I'm going to have to ask my sister to same me some!
Here in Texas we have a grocery store called HEB and their brand of jelly comes in a very cute jar that is square (except for where the lid screws on). I'm saving them to put on a shelf to store embellishments. I might paint the lids, not that they're bad looking, but just cause I think it would be fun to paint them different bright colors.
When I order pizza I ask for an unused pizza box and use it to store my supplies for large projects. That way everything is together and the paper can lay flat in the box. I can just pick it up and go if I want to take it with me. The box makes a nice lap desk, too.
I save the plastic tubs that Walmart sells their meat in. Great for messy project like shaving cream and depending on the cut of meat you get they come in different sizes. I pop mine the top rack of the dishwasher to sanitize before using.
I've use the stairstep rack that is sold for holding canned goods in a pantry to hold various supplies. The stairstepping makes it all visible and you can store a lot of small things in a small area. Some items that I've stored are embossing powder and reinkers.
Here's a neat idea that I've seen Dee Gruenig do. She pours each of her embossing powders into separate square containers (like Rubbermaid or freezer storage) with plastic lids (needs to be a little larger than the size of a card, but not necessarily deep. Those disposable Gladware containers would be fantastic and cheap. Then when she wants to emboss a card she holds it over the container and using a plastic spoon, spoons the EP over it letting the excess powder fall back into the container as she spoons it. To make it even better she has several containers and spoons different colors over selected parts of the image one color at a time, each time letting the excess powder fall back into it's container so that the colors don't mix in the containers. With the spoon she can direct the powder to where she wants it. It is so fast, neat and easy. Since they stack they can be store neatly.
Not recycled, but I use ziplock sandwich/storage bags in all different sizes to store various things. Example: the ink cartridges for wheels (so they don't dry out as fast).
I've cut the top off and covered laundry detergent boxes and used to hold stamping magazines. Cereal boxes would work, too, but the cardboard isn't has sturdy as laundry detergent boxes are, plus detergent boxes hold more magazines since they are larger.
I haven't done this, but you could clean out an egg carton and use it to hold small embellishments like buttons sorted by color.
Used prescription medicine bottles could hold brads and eyelets and the child safety cap will keep little hands from getting into them.
Folgers coffee has these red plastic containers now that I was saving for putting Christmas cookies in for gift giving (neighbors, etc.)-
Domino sugar started coming out with the same type plastic container -- in yellow
I was going to stamp an adhesive sheet and put it over the area where the product name was.
It is a great idea I am sure someone can use, make sure the coffee is washed out good -- unfortunately DH got really freaked one day when he saw my stash of 10 of them in the corner of the kitchen and made me pitch them for the space and all but hopefully someone else can take the idea and run with it -- they are such great containers!
Well, I know it's not really FOOD, but at Sam's Club I buy the dishwasher tablets by Cascade. I decorated the empty plastic container with designer papers and it stores a hodgepodge of accessories such as mini file folders, epoxy stickers, etc. It has a flip top lid so I can just peek in for inspiration.

I use them for storing embellishments, ribbons, etc. The food at our restaurant comes in an awesome flat rectangualr container where I store misc. stamps and pads. One has all of my EP in it. I also order popcorn from the boy scouts every year. The kind we get comes in a great tin. There are so many ideas on this, thanks for the inspiration!

We store batteries in the frig (supposed to stay fresh longer). We had been using gal. size zippies. DD got several of the white reg. sized Huggies baby wipe containers at her shower, not the flat travel size. She emptied 1 & was ditching it, so I grabbed it. When she came over and saw the batteries, she went home & put hers in one. They're great, very sturdy.. now I don't have to worry if a battery leaks!!
I kept her baby in daytime while he was in baby food stage.. yes, I saved every little tub he emptied here. I have all kinds of goodies stored in them!
Bryan Meats and I think Hormel have started selling their lunch meats sealed in plastic then placed in zip-loc storage containers. I used several for Thxgiving leftovers. They're a great size, not too big. At the moment I have some cleaned rubbah in one waiting to be slapped onto EZ Mount then trimmed. These are the same ones in plastic aisle of groc. store you buy empty.
Ive saved prescription bottles for yrs. The large 1's hold a mirage of screws, nails, etc. in a Sterilite tub. We added onto our house (ourselves) several yrs. ago and have a good collection. The clear 1's I'm saving for craft stuff!!
Anyone have a good use for the rectangle shaped, Kraft Mayo clear, plastic jars w/ flip up lid? Only drawback- the lid doesnt lock. I've several waiting to find a use for! lol

My dd was throwing away the package that her birth control comes in... it's so cute - I just know it could be something but not sure what. When I get home I'll post a picture and you can all help me brainstorm!

great thread!! I was saving some tub's from coffee, formula, baby food jars, ect. and I threw them out recently making room for all the extra baby stuff that I need to sell next year!! Now I'm disapointed!!!
All these ideas are so great....Makes me wish I had saved all those containers I've thrown out in the past few months! Hmmm, next recycled day is Monday. ..think anyone would notice me pilfering through their recycled bins for potential stamping projects? :p

What a great gift idea! You know, I was in the mall last weekend and noticed a whole wall of these little ceramic jars with cork lids for mad money with not-so-attractive ceramic figures on them. They were all themed "Shoe Money" "Boob Job Money" etc. Pretty ugly actually, but when I saw them I thought how easy it would be to make up your own mad money jar, especially with all the cute stamps.
