Default Are fancy fibers 'out'?

Ok, I still love fancy fibers. Everytime I wander into Michael's I can't help but buy another skein of fiber. Now I have a basket full of fiber but no real ideas.

Any ideas for using these pretty yarns etc? Or should I make myself stop buying them?

Thanks!
Vera

I keep buying them too! I hope this thread generates some good ideas! So far I am just using them the same as I would the hemp twine or ribbon. I find that I use them much more in my scrapbooks than in cards.

Oh! I LOVE fibers! I have actually started just shopping in the yarn and knitting section. I actually think that I may be fiber crazy b/c I am putting it on everything I make now! I used it to tie the tops of cello bags, I love making little corner protectors (? slides over the corner of a card or journal) - I punch eyelets in the middle of each side and tie fiber through, I tie lots of it on all my tags, I wrap it around cards, tie it onto paint can gifts and tie the paint can key on it, .....hang it from my rearview mirror.... :P

My secret sisterjust made me a mini journal and used the fibers:

It is so cute! She used something like CE to affix it, but it is unnoticeable.

I wish I had thought of this before I went to Michael's. I went only because I had a coupon. I didn't need anything. Everything I found was on sale so the coupon couldn't be used - everything else I could live without. I finally found something to use the coupon on but I could have bought a skein of fancy yarn! Oh well, I have more coupons!

Oh my goodness I love fibers! I have two drawers full of fibers and ribbon. I mostly use fibers on my cards and scrapbook pages. I just posted a tag book that I used fibers with. For my scrapbook pages I like to make title words with it. I remember reading how to do that in a scrapbook magazine.

I put myself on a fiber buying freeze though, I just have waaay too many skeins of it... hehehehe....

Wow, Michele and Andy, your samples are beautiful!

I'll be casing that Fall page, Michele!

Keep these ideas coming! Was there a Michael's coupon in this week's Sunday paper?

I predict another skein coming into the house......

Here's a good site to purchase fibers without buying a whole skein

I envy those of you who live in an area with a Michaels or HL. I have a Wal-Mart. I have to drive at least 70 to 100 mi. to find a good selection of anything. That is really faster than ordering off the net, 'cause when I want something, I want it NOW. LOL

Gosh I hope they are not out! I just bought some and made a card with them a couple days ago! I forgot to take a picture but it was really cute!

I also made my years worth of female birthday cards with fibers!

I guess the reason I posed this question is because in the Papercrafts mags and the Joy of Cardmaking doesn't seem to have as much fiber. Ribbon is the rage now.

But I still love fiber!!

Default Fiber Swap anyone?

I, too, am one of those that has many skeins piled in my storage closet. Howzabout an informal swap? Since it's so light to mail, we could easily swap amongst ourselves for less than a dollar postage, so we wouldn't have to make it an official swap to conserve on mailinge fees.

I'm thinking something like this:

3 or 4 yards of each fiber, anywhere from 5-10 colors/styles
-no plain yarn or embroidery floss

Anyone interested? I'd personally love to trade with a few of you and we can all diversify!!

I'm thinking a VERY informal swap - like each of us can contact one another and work out our own details. I have mostly chenille, eyelash/fun fur, Lion brand homespun, and some ladder. Please email me at [email protected] if you're interested, and maybe we'll all be posting lovely new fiber creations within a week!

By the way, here is a list of fiber uses I had saved from another message board (sorry, I don't remember which one, although I may have posted it here already once, too) It's mostly geared toward scrapbooking, but it might get your wheels turning:

1. Map out your vacation route with fibre threaded through eyelets.
2. Use as laces on paper pieced-shoes.
3. Make a frame around a matted photo or journal box.
4. Tie through the hole of a tag.
5. Use in a sports scene as a basketball hoop, soccer net or fishing pole.
6. Create grass or trees.
7. Spell out a title using fibres to stitch out the letters.
8. Wrap around a border, nugget, tag or corner accent several times.
9. Make hair or other features on paper dolls.
10. Use as a string for balloon diecuts or eyelets.
11. Tie lassos for western pages.
12. Create seaweed on an ocean or vacation page.
13. Attach a tail to a kite.
14. Build a mountain/water outline.
15. Use a rope for a tug of war scene.
16 Fringe on animals.
17. Wrap fibres around letters.
18. Create a shadow for die cut letters.
19. Use fibres to tie 2 or more elements together.
20. Weave through mesh.
21. Create bows! .
22. Scarf on a paper pieced snowman.
23. Attach to a brad and use it as a yoyo.
24. Fibre piecing. www.fiberscraps.com
25. Used to stitch pieces together to form a pocket.
26. As embroidery stitching.
27. Attach tire (swing) to tree.
28. Wrapping presents.
29. Crossing corners of a photo mat or journal box.
30. Clothesline for hanging mittens with wooden clothespins.
31. Stitching a template design.
32. Thread punchies on fibre and create a bracelet around a photo/mat.
33. Down the length of the page, photomat or journal box as a border.
35. To hang/attach buttons or charms.
36. Used to hang signs or metal rimmed tags from buttons, brad and eyelets.
37 Decorations on a Christmas Tree.
38. Decorations on an Easter Egg.
39. Create a spider web.
40. Lacing 2 pieces together.
41. Ends of a hammock.
42. Wind fibres tightly to form the centre of a flower or leaves.
43. To knit or crochet page accents.
44. As a blanket stitch around a border, or mat.
45. Tassels.
46. Braiding the fibres together to create borders, page breaks etc.
47. As needlepoint stitches on your page elements.
48. Hanging header letter squares or mini tags.
49. Enhancing die cuts
50. Accent on Serendipity Squares.
