Default Color Caddy....Thumbs Down!

My Color Caddy came today, and I assembled it right away. I've got to say that I'm not impressed with it on any level. :( It does not turn well at all and seems to be made of very flimsy plastic. I wish I had spent more and gotten the one from Porta Link or one of the awesome wooden ones I've seen on this site. I guess it's true that you get what you pay for, or sometimes less than what you pay for! At $66.00 (including shipping), I wouldn't exactly call it inexpensive! Oh, well! At least my pads are out where I can have access to them now.

I'm sorry you're dissappointed!!

I have the organizers from here:

http://www.dzyntec.com/dzyntec/

I was happy to see SU! carrying something this year but it wasn't what I wanted. I like being able to transport all my ink pads, markers, reinkers, and daubers at once.

I have the portaInk by CJ Designs..... it rotates awesome, with just one finger... so smooth. It holds all 48 perfectly, with room on the top for the reinkers, but I was going to get the one in the SU catty for my other pads (spectrum, new brown, craft). Was it any better when you put your pads in it? I think maybe I'll look for one that holds just a few more and will go flat against the wall instead. If you are that unhappy, I would definitely return it to SU! Thanks for sharing!!

Default Color Caddy

I too received my Color Caddy today and it was disappointing! I have three of the wooden caddies which I love but wanted something to hold my set of Craft pads. I thought it would be of comparable quality for $66.00 and it's not even close, doesn't turn easily, and reinkers can't be placed with the individual pad, nor is there a place for the markers. Guess I've been spoiled with the great design of my wooden ones. Just my opinion!

No, it didn't turn any better with the pads in it. Maybe I should look into returning it. SU! would probably like to know if people are not happy with a product. I just don't like the hassle involved. :(

I don't remember if it was here or on the SU! forums, but somewhere I saw a post about assembling it too tight. Maybe if you loosen some parts it will turn better. Otherwise... I'd return it.

Cambria,

Where did you locate the info to purchase the caddy from CJ Designs? I'd love to see it, my DH thinks he could build me one to house all my ink pads.

http://www.cdjdesigns.com/ I totally LOVE it. It is plastic and only takes up 1 square foot of space! I'm thrilled with it! I've had it for about a year.

Have a great day!!

I have the PortaInk too... I have the stationary one. I LOVE IT. It is sooo sturdy..they guy at the Craft fair stood on top of it and it didn't break!!! Super sturdy!!! I think I paid $80.00 for it but IT SURE WAS WORTH IT. It's even protable and has handles on the side!!!!
I highly suggest this to EVERYONE...wish I could remember their website.
It is made by CDJ Designs, LLC. Hope that helps

PS return your color caddy! Don't feel bad. SU! should know that it's demos and customers only ecpect TOP QUALITY.

I have an awesome wooden ink pad holder called "The Elite" from this website:
www.stampinthings.com
It is GREAT! Holds 48 pads, all the markers & reinkers, 24 spectrum pads, and has a tray on top to hold more goodies. I love, Love, LOVE it! It is strong and made to last. Plus, it turns very nicely.

This is where I bought my stamp pad / ink refill holder. I love it, it's acrylic and is less expensive then some of the wooden holders.

Just my 2 cents...I have the Portalink and couldn't be happier. It swivels smooth as silk. The top doesn't hold all the re-inkers, so I use it for other little stuff instead (glue sticks, daubers, personalized stamps, sanding blocks, etc) and keep my re-inkers elsewhere. It was pricey but WELL worth it!

I have to put in my 2 cents worth. I have the color caddy and I just love it. I love how it stores the ink pads without them falling and how it stores the reinkers on top. I love how portable it is. It doesn't turn that well, but I don't have a hard time turning it. I can live with it especially for the great price. I was going to buy the big fancy wood one that had space for the reinkers, but it was a lot more. Now I can bring my ink pads with me and they won't go anywhere. Try turning the caddy around by the handle. It works better then just pushing in any where else. I do really enjoy mine and would recommend it to anyone. Besides, I got the credit for it, so I feel good about spending the money on Stampin up as apposed to just giving my money to someone else. I hope this helps!

I bought a nice 48 pad wood one off eBay and referred my Mom there, where she bought a huge 92 pad one with ribbon storage in the middle. She got a great deal on it.

I bought a wooden carousal ink caddy on ebay. A SU demo's husband built one for her and then started to sell them. It holds 52 pads, the refills and it has a space for the matching marker to lay horizontal. Two color families fit on one side. The perpendicular sides hold small objects such as eyelets, brad, etc. I wish I had a digital camera. If you don't mind waiting, I'll take a picture with my 35mm and try to upload the image. Let me know if there is interest.

I love this one. Wish I had the $100 to buy it. My big issue is that all the caddies seem to be black. I've been there done that and am over the whole black thing. I had a living room that had black sofa, black entertainment center, black curio cabinet, black coffee table all for 5 years. I've switched to washed wood and want something to match that.

I forgot ~ YES, you can return it. You just have to pay the frieght/postage to return it.

Putting in my 2 cents, I bought three wooden ones now from a guy named Zane. His are wonderful. He has ones that hold just the 48 ink pads, 4 rows of 12, or ones that can hold 48, plus re-inkers, or everything. He also has ribbon holders and roller holders and combos. His prices are very competitive to all the acyrilic ones suggested, the 48 pad holder being $35, I think and the 48 plus re-inkers one being $55.

His web site is www.zaneswoodworks.com

He custom makes each one, so when you order it takes 2 to 3 weeks to get it, but well worth the wait.

I want his wheel rack. Since he custom makes them I wonder if he would do just a pad and reinker rack as opposed to the pad, pen, and reinker. I have the carry case for my pens, don't want to give that up. Too convenient.

Default WOODEN PAD HOLDER

MY NEIGHBOR HAS MADE FOR ME A WOODEN PAD HOLDER THAT IS VERY MUCH LIKE THE " STMAPIN THINGS" PAD HOLDER, IT HOLD THE 48 SU PADS, WITH THE CORDINATING MARKER AND REFILL NEXT TO THEM. IT ALSO HOLDS 24 EXTRA PADS AS WELL AS THE TRY ON THE TOP. HE SELLD THEM FOR $65 PLUS SHIPPING COSTS. SINCE IT IS SOLID WOOD AND IT IS STAINED EITHER DARK WOOD OR WHITE WASH IT DEOS WEIGHT 25 POUNDS, BUT IT IS VERY STURDY, AND HE USES BALL BEARING BASE FOR TURNING. TURNS VERY SMOOTH. YOU DO GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR IN MOST CASES.

Hi Everyone,

Another website with storage options is... www.dekdevelopment.net
I do not have one of these yet, but it is on my christmas list already. I have heard really good things about the quality and service you get from these people. You can customize these storage holders to fit your needs.

FYI - my husband makes wooden ink caddies. He designed it for my friend and demonstrator (Jan.stamp) with lots of input from her. They hold 72 ink pads, 48 markers/blender pens/watercolor brushes..., there are drawers on the bottom with a removable re-inker rack, pegs for wheels or ribbon, and lots of storage on top. It spins easily and is very durable. He's sold at least 10, mostly to local demonstrators and they are very pleased and thrilled with the quality. One DH of a demonstrator remarked that it was "excellent craftsmanship." They have remarked that the small difference in cost between these and SU's is WELL worth it. Please PM me if you are interested (I can email you a picture) or you may contact Jan.stamp or Jessica2872 for their opinions. HTH

I have the CDJ design ink pad holder that sits flat against the wall and added the attachable marker holders. I love it. It is so easy to grab the pads, markers and reinkers. It's nice just being organized.
