Default Care and Feeding of a Demo

Congratulations on acquiring a Stampin' Up! demo of your very own! How do you care for this rare specimen? Well, let me tell you!

a) If you don't want to book a workshop, please don't say that you want to, then take all the hostess info and catalog and call when you know she's not home to cancel. I'd far rather someone didn't book than book without being sure they wanted to.

b) If you find you do have to cancel a workshop, please be honest enough to say so. We don't bite. We do understand life gets in the way sometimes. You don't have to avoid our calls, just say, "I'm sorry, it's not going to work out this time...I really wanted to, but it's just not possible."

c) If you do cancel your workshop, please rebook and if you can't, give the catalog and hostess packet back. All that stuff costs money.

d) Tell us how much you like our designs. We love applause!

e) I know you all want to get cards from us occasionally, but WE also like to get cards from YOU! I love to see what my customers are up to and when they send me one of their cards; well, I just am touched beyond belief.

f) If you tell your demo you are coming to her event, don't bump her when something else comes along. We work hard preparing and we do understand when sickness, death and family emergencies prevent you from coming, but we'd like you to come when you say you will otherwise. And be sure to check your calendar before you say you can come...we don't want you to miss Suzie's concert either.

g) Let us know one way or another if you are coming or not. So many times, people don't and I can't be sure whether I need to be home or not if no one calls to say they are or aren't coming. Just a quick call or email is all that is necessary.

h) Remember that our stamps are our stock in trade and treat them with as much care (or more) than you treat your own. Remember that cardstock does not grow on trees, even if it comes from trees originally.

i) Give her feedback on which nights are better for you to attend events. If she gives you a survey to attempt to find out what her customers want and need, fill it out and send it back so she KNOWS what you would like as far as classes, stamp camps and other events.

j) If you DO have a workshop, please listen to your demonstrator when she gives you suggestions such as over-inviting, calling to remind people etc. She's just as excited for you to get free stuff as she is to see what sales she will get. You are in business with her for just one night and you both will benefit if you treat it that way. And be sure to have fun...that's the most important thing to us!

k) Please don't tell all your friends during the workshop how you can get all this stuff cheaper somewhere else. You are not only hurting your demo's sales, you are hurting your own hostess benefits. You can have that discussion some other time, preferably long after the workshop is over.

If you follow these instructions carefully, your demo will last a long, long time and will be fun to work with!

Nice! JanTink, I just noticed that you live in Redford, MI. I grew up in Westland and my parents still live there. My whole family is in Michigan, Livonia, Canton, Birmingham and Clinton Township.

Thanks Jan! I like to think that I show my demo how much I LOVE her, but these are nice little reminders. I may just have to bookmark this thread!

Happy Stamping!

That was awesome, thanks....gotta admit, though I don't say, "hey you can get this elsewhere cheaper" I usually do say..."Hey, don't get that set, I have it, get this one instead and we can share" Is that as bad as it sounds??

I don't think so. My SIL has her catalog noted with what stamp sets I have. My hostess club members have all their catalogs noted too. I don't think they spend any less because of it - they just make sure to get DIFFERENT stuff that no one else has!

Even though I am a demo, I have a main catalog that is marked with my stuff (highlighted throughout the catalog as well as in the index) in blue. The sets my SILs have (who all live within the same block I do) are also marked in my catalog - one in pink, one in green. So when *I* am expanding my supplies, I can make sure to get something new and exciting for all of us!

Actually, the other demos in my group and I borrow stuff from each other all the time and this really makes us buy more, I think! For example, I borrowed Wonderful Wings from one of the other demos in the area for a project and to make some samples with. I liked the stamp set so much, it has now been added to my wish list! I would NEVER have put that on my list before because I didn't think it would be versatile. After I used it, I fell in love with it.

Anyway, thanks for this, it is sooo TRUE
