Dumb question.. how do you pronounce this?
I need some ribbon ASAP for some cards I'm making and plan to hit the craft stores tomorrow.. but I don't want to look like an idiot trying to pronounce this. :oops:

Hi: In the midwest we say growgrain, leaving the "s" silent. I agree, it's probably regional. We are just lazy here :lol:

I used to say gross like a nasty smell or something, UNTIL my Upline started cracking up when I said it that way. She said it is pronounced

I have always pronounced it grass grain with the a making an ah sounds. Does that make any sense?

I stand corrected.....I checked dictionary.com. The "s" is silent and it is like grow-grain. Oops! Now I have to remember to pronounce it correctly.

Merriam Webster has a website that I use when I don't know how to pronounce a word. If you type in the word in the box for the dictionary and then click on the audio icon, it will pronounce the word for you. It pronounces it like growgrain, no s sound.

I've heard Lisa Bearson on QVC pronounce Coluzzle like puzzle and I remember her specifically referring to the fact that it rhymes with puzzle.

It's pronounced grow-grain. I think that it tells us this in the Demo Manual- or somewhere in my Demo Supplies....I remember reading it. I am a bit of a geek when it comes to remembering useless (or in this case useFUL)info.

It's French
Grosgrain is French which is why the s is not pronounced in gros. Gros means fat, but in this case it refers to the thick texturing of the ribbon fabric. Think about the words bouquet and buffet... over 23% of English words are French!
