Default 40th anniversary

Lately I have been really into making the paint cans. So much fun!! I am going to an informal 40th anniversary party for a couple. It says no gifts on the invitation-but I thought a paint can would be nice to bring. I was looking for a poem (similar to the baby poem, wedding poem...) to put on the front of the can. I was also wondering about suggestions for things to put into the can (don't want to spend a fortune). Thanks for any help!

For a 40th anniversary it's supposed to be a ruby isn't it? Just kidding!
I would be inclined to decorate the outside with just red roses (stamped) and ribbons. For the inside, buy a little book of poetry or a devotional book. A few Hershey's Kisses and Hugs of course. Maybe the word love on something small like a keychain.

For the tag...
Roses are red,
Rubies are too.
For 40 years of marriage
I filled this tin for you.
(Well, what did you expect? Rubies?)

GarnetJ, I love it! You are so creative!

I think the point behind "no gifts" is usually that people have enough stuff and don't want more. That's when meaningful tokens of affection are so wonderful! If they are coffee drinkers, maybe some coffee and accessories (sugar stir sticks, biscotti, and the like). Home baked cookies are always good, too. GarnetJ's idea of a book of devotions or poetry is also lovely.

I love GarnetJ's idea about a devotional or poetry book. There are some really nice ones out there...I was at Barnes and Noble the other day looking at them. There are some for every occasions. I also saw a very nice journal type book for restaurants...it's to keep track of places you eat, what dish was particularly wonderful or horrible, what the occasions was, etc. Pretty unique.

The other thing you could make is a memory jar. Fill the jar (can) with questions meant to spark memories, and perhaps a journal for them to write down the memories and stuff.

I can see that being a fun activity to do with their grown children and any grandchildren.

Cheers,

I have a 50th anniversary poem on my thread (see siggie below for link) that you might be able to change the wording a bit to suit. Just a thot!

How about including a plant - there is a rose bush called Ruby Wedding.
