SU Gingham Ribbon

Is anyone else unhappy with the poor quality of this ribbon? I find that it frays much more easily than gingham ribbon that I have bought other places. Also because of the thin silky texture of it, it does not tie into nice knots on cards. I don't think that I will buy it again. :(

HMMM, I have not had any of those problems. Mine ties great and I haven't noticed any fraying. I wonder if you got a bad spool? You may want to contact SU (or your demo if you aren't one).

Wow, I'm the opposite. I love the SU ribbon because it's so soft and easy to tie. I haven't had any trouble with it fraying.

I have to say that I love all of the gingham ribbon. Wish it came in more colors! I love the softness of it, and I think it ties great. Keep more coming!

I haven't had any problems with the gingham ribbon, either. It's my favorite. I'm addicted to black gingham. :shock:

I find that ribbon will fray if you are not using a sharp enough pair of scissors...I love SU ribbon!!

I too love it! I would suggest cutting at an angle with sharp snips!

I think it's great, easy to tie and no fraying! However, one of my customers said it kept fraying on her. I tried cutting her gingham with my scissors and it was fine. We then tried her scissors and it frayed. Her scissors were really dull and actually had little nicks in the blade. So... use good sharp scissors to cut ribbon.

I agree, I LOVE the gingham ribbon and hope that it becomes a regular item in the 2005/06 IB&C. I have to stop myself from using it on EVERYTHING and give my other ribbons a chance! LOL!!

All ribbons will fray some, but cutting with snips will eliminate most of it. Also make sure you are holding the ribbon taught on both sides when you snip through it. If your scissor doesn't go through it like butter, it will fray and you are using the wrong scissor for the job. Also, trim the ends of your ribbon AFTER you've threaded it through any holes and AFTER you've tied it. Threading it through and pulling on the ends will only make it fray more naturally.

I don't have any trouble with it coming "un-knotted", but you could always try a quick spray of hairspray to help it stick??

But, if you are still not satisfied with your purchase, definitely talk to your demo or DS if you are one.

I believe they said at a leadership conference that they are going to come out with more colors...did anyone else hear that rumor??? Can you confirm it???

I also love our new ribbon. I sell a lot and have had no complaints yet. I hope we do get more colors. Our ribbon is great quality and the price is very good too. So sorry you are not happy with it. I will be happy to take yours off your hands, you can send it my way. Ha Ha

You can use your markers to dye the gingham ribbon to give you more colors. I have made tempting turquoise/black, close to cocoa/light blue, rose red/black, pink passion/black & love the way they turned out!

It must be my scissors! I will certainly give the ribbon another try based on the strong support from this group. It HAS TO BE the scissors, everything else being equal. Thanks for all of the input!

I bought gingham ribbon from Wal-Mart and it was easier to deal with - less fraying and more "body" to it. Plus it comes in lots of colors. Just my $.02 worth.

i bought the sage/olive color gingham a while ago, but everytime i look, they are sold out...does someone have a list of colors they carry? i want to see which ones i dont have

I am the world's worst bow maker and I have had the best of luck with the SU gingham ribbon. I love it, and wish it came in more colors.

I don't have the SU gingham but have had ribbon fray, like others, with dull scissors. My sister sews and she recommended something to me which has been wonderful -- she said to reserve my ribbon scissors just for cutting ribbon - don't use them for cutting paper, and vice versa. SInce then I haven't had a problem cutting any of my ribbon.

I also trim the ragged edges after I pull them through whatever hole I have pulled them through so they are cleanly cut and not frayed, which I finds happens with every ribbon to some extend when you pull them through a small hole. Sometimes adjusting the size of the hole or using slits helps to cut down on the fraying as well.

A product called Fray Check is available in the sewing section of Wal Mart and other stores. A very small amount applied to the ends of ribbon will permanently seal it. I've used this on hairbows and sewing for years. There is also another similar product. I'm not sure of the name but think it is something like Stop Fray.

, but when my ends of my grosgrain or organdy ribbon frays, I snip the edges and apply a tiny amount of Crystal Effects to seal it. HTH, Myra

I bought a spool of the SU pink gingham, and love it. I needed about two spools of it last week for some baby announcements, and didn't have time to order more so.......I ran to *Wallyworld, and lo and behold they had the same thing....so I thought! Anyway, started tying my bows out of the WM stuff, and yuck!!! The cheaper stuff frayed, and did not hold its shape. Not near the quality that I was used to with SU! Funny thing too, it was more expensive overall than the SU! ribbon!! Anyway, I'm sticking with my SU! ribbon in the future!

Actually, the ribbon at WalMart (if it's the Offray that the WM here carries) seems to be the EXACT SAME ribbon that SU carries--both from the same supplier. You can *definitely* get more color selection at WMart, but the quality is the same, and the price is almost the same per yard. SU's is marginally cheaper per yard until you add in shipping, then it's about a penny a yard more--so, same ribbon, same quality, same price! :-D

Actually, the Offray is different. I have it and thought I could do without the SU!... but if you look closely, on the Offray, the white stripe is in the middle. On the SU!, the black is in the middle. No big deal if you're not picky, but I can be...

I much prefer the quality of the Wal-Mart gingham. Additionally I don't need huge rolls of each color so the WM ribbon makes much more sense.

I purchase my gingham from Joanne. They have so many colors now, which they just recently added to their ribbon section, and at $1.99 a spool it is a great deal. I have had no problem with it fraying or with making bows with it.
