Cutting curvy lines

What's the best way to cut long, curvy lines? They show cards in the catalog where a square has the sides bending in, but I can't think how to do it, unless you use a Fiskars shape cutter, or whatever, which sounds iffy. I read some posts from unhappy customers. I'm getting bored with squares and rectangles! TIA!

I'd be interested in knowing the answer myself. Perhaps some people are just too darn crafty with a pair of scissors :lol:

Maybe. I thought of that too, but the lines look so regular...I'm sunk if it's done freehand. I suppose I could draw a line with a pencil first.

I've never done or heard about this method before, but how about using a dinner plate or platter or something as a guide for an exacto knife to do the cut? It might be a little slippery but would work better for me than trying to follow a guide line with my scissors.

I just cut it and wave the paper slowly as I'm cutting. The trick is to move the paper, not the scissors.

CM also makes a wave cutter that's awesome. It has a straight line, a swell, and a wave on it.

I did discover that you need to move the paper in cutting out flowers! The CM wave cutter sounds like just what I need. Can I get it at ACMoore or Michaels? Thanks.

well, you start with not being curvy cutting challenged like me, lol! Seriously, when my sister first taught me to stamp she said "ok, now cut this piece kind of quirky...." I could NOT do it! I am so anal and everything has to be balanced....anyway, no tips here!

Yep, that works for me too! As mentioned in the first post, each of fiskars shape templates has a wavy type/non stratight edge. I suspect you could use an exacto knife with it. Fiskar's recommends you pick the edge you want to use and then place another template "straight" edge an inch or so opposite from the one you are using. This gives the cutting tool a better resting surface to complete the cut. Keeps it even. Of course, the fiskars shape cutter has to "be your friend" or the cuts will not come out as expected. Every cutting tool, except the CM line, takes getting used to.

Just a hint for those looking into getting the CM "wave cutter": It is being discontinued. It's actually called a 12-inch pattern and is my most used cutting tool by far besides my big paper cutter.

Does the 12" pattern have long waves and short waves? And do you just use an exacto knife and cutting mat?

Maybe I'll just trace around a glass or plate!

I looked at the web site because I have also wondered how that was done. But I saw a template that l look closer than the wavy frame. Tell me what you think

Actually, the 12-inch pattern is made to perfectly fit over the mat that CM sells along with 3 blades. The blades have little prongs on them that fit into the grooves on the guide. Each blade cuts a different distance from the template. It's the coolest thing, and so easy to use. I use their cutting mat for all of my cutting, even exacto and everything!

You can buy all types of templates, circle, oval, star, heart, and more.

HI! I am a CM consultant and the item that you have shown here is a very flimsy plastic, which is used to put sticker letters on your pages. The 12" pattern is being discontinued but will be replaced with something that looks like the 12" trimmer, we have now. It will have a wavy pattern on it instead of straight. I love the 12" trimmer and I really think the new wavy pattern will be wonderful for what you are talking about doing. Edited to add: You can always try the Scalloped corner rounder too! I works great for photos in albums and I will be using it for my cards that I will be making. The 12" decorative trimmer will be coming out soon!!!
