Take a small amount of embossing powder (literally, like maybe a 1/4 teaspoon) and mixed it 50/50 with kool-aid flavor (those tiny packages, MUST be unsweetened!). Stamp image in Versamark and then add the kool-aid/embossing powder mixture and dump off the excess. Heat as usual.

HTH!

I had originally tried the unsweetened Kool-Aid and failed miserably. It must be SUGAR-FREE, and I found out the hard way that there is a definite difference between sugar-free and unsweetened. The unsweetened burned when I tried it...dont know why, but it did. I was very successful with the sugar-free KoolAid and sugar-free JELLO. 1 part scent to 3 parts clear embossing powder. Remember though to not overheat it, or it will bubble on you. Your workshop will smell sooooooooooo nice too! Great perk!

Oh no. He got me unsweetened not sugar free. Guess I will try it anyway. Let you know how it worked for me.

:( That is what I bought - unsweetened. I need to go back and get sugar-free! I looked for it but didn't see it so I assumed that unsweetened would be fine.

for the record, unsweetened kool-aid requires you to add sugar to it when you make it. sugar-free is sweetened kool-aid, just sweetened without sugar. i believe it has nutra-sweet/aspartame in it.

What is the purpose of using the kool-aid to emboss? Does it add a scent even after you are finished heat embossing? Thanks! ~Lois

Default KoolAid

I used the unsweetened and couldn't smell anything after I embossed. I haven't used the sugar free yet.

Default Sugar Free Kool Aid

Something just clicked with my memory bank when I read this thread and I want to share the bit of trivia that relates.
Several years ago, when heat & stick first came out and was rather hard to come by, some clever stamper discovered that the product in the little fake sweetner packets worked in the same way as heat & stick. I never tried it, but I "borrowed" some packet from the local restaurant just in case I might need to ;^)
The fake sweetener in the koolaid probably works like heat & stick to make the "drink part" of kool-aid adhere.....hmmmmm....where's our science expert when we need her!

Are you guys going for smell or color with this technique? I would assume the EP would conseal the smell. I think if scratch and sniff is what you want it is a different thing all together? Could be wrong!

I was going for smell. I didn't know you have to scratch to get the scent.

I used the unsweetened kool-aid on my scratch and sniff card without a problem. Just held the heat gun farther away. It took longer to melt, but it didn't burn. Smells yummy too!

I've done the scrathc and sniff, but don't have my card posted. Used perfect Party, the ice cream cone.
I used sugar free Grape Kool aid (1/4 tsp) and 1/2-3/4 tsp of Embossing Pwder. I also stamped with a craft pad so I would have a good purple color, the koolaid makes whatever color you pick darker by the way.
It turned out well for me and did it a a big card work day my downline and I did. No complaints from the 48 ladies that came and most stopped and thanked me for the new idea (which I quickly referenced that I tend to copy ideas, I jsut now some really great resources!)
I've also seen it done with coffee mixes, Jello, pwdered vanilla, etc but it does need to be sugar free as the sugar does burn and that is stinky.

I just made my son's bday card a few days ago and used the Sugar Free Jello (.49/box versus having to buy 4-6 packets in a box of the Sugar Free KoolAid). Worked GREAT!

He absolutely loves scratch and sniff stickers, so I used the balloon stamp from Perfect Party and stamped them in Real Red, used my Stamp a ma jig to stamp Versamark over each one and then embossed with the KoolAid/clear embossing powder mix.

Does anyone know if they sell Sugar Free KoolAid in individual packets? At my stores, I can only seem to find them in the boxes.

Headed to Atlanta Regionals, but I MUST try this when I return on Sunday. Do you use the clear embossing powder?

nope sugar-free Kool Aid only comes in the boxes of 4 :( I wish they would sell it individually too, and get more flavors in.. that is why I thought it would be better to use jello.. that little bit you take out of it won't hurt you from making up a batch to eat!! Lol

I am missing something. Those packets I make Kool Aid with for $.20 at Walmart, the ones where you have to add the sugar. Will those work?

LadyScrppr- those are the ones I used and did not have a problem. Some have said they burn. I just held me heat gun nice and high. Worked just fine.
