What do you charge for a card?

I mostly sell my cards to co-workers. I started out charging $1.50 for "plain" cards and $2 for ones with more embellishments or work involved, but since no one ever complained about the price, I've gone to $2 for everything, figuring that the extra from some will offset the less from others. I just don't think I could sell as many if I charged more, at least up here in rural Vermont... I always include a co-ordinating stamped envelope and definitely use the special SU! copyright stamp on the back.

P.S. Who knew such a simple question would get such emotion flowing???

I sell cards mainly to friends. I did a lot this past Christmas with them buying gifts - sets of cards, candles, and other stamped goodies.

I did sets of 6 cards in a SU stationary box for $10

Without the box $10 for 8 cards...

I too sat down and figured out how much it costs me to make a card...paper, ink, embossing powder, brads, fibers, etc...

On average it costs me between .20 and .30 to make one card so 8 for $10 I am making on average $7-$8 "profit"

I haven't sold individual cards but I would think if I was going to sell individual cards I would price them at $2 or $2.25.

For me I love to create so my time is negliable my goal is to at least make a little bit of money to fuel my hobby...

I just had someone ask for a set of cards and she also asked me to do a wedding card (I showed her some card samples here at SCS and she picked one she liked and I CASEd it) and a wedding candle - so for 8 cards, a wedding card and a candle I charged her $20 - my total cost for everything came out to be $8 so my profit is $12 - hey that buys me some more paper...

As far as SU policy, this isn't something I would make a "career" of. It would mostly be making sets for family/friends who want them but don't want to do them themselves so they would pay for materials and my time. Yet one thing I thought about doing was setting up a "kid card" booth at the elementary school's Secret Santa Fair. I would supply everything for the kids to make their parents, grandparents, etc. a Christmas card for like 50cents (to cover materials). Obviously this is not a money maker, mostly just for fun for the kids. I could pre-stamp the back with the "made by" SU stamp and the kids could sign it. Would that be in line with the policy or a no-no?

I checked something similar to this with SU last year for a customer who wanted to use SU stamps and clay to do a class for kids. They said if it was a class it wasn't necessary for the SU stamp so I don't think you need to stamp the back of the cards. Your not really selling anything your teaching something or in this case letting the kids use your supplies. It would be the same as for our Camps we hold in our homes or other venues. We certainly don't make our customers stamp everything with the copyright stamp.

You can always ask DS they are oh so helpful or if your a customer just check with your Demo she can call and find out for you.
