Did I read on this site that WalMart sells the same Gingham Ribbon as SU? (By the way, I did try to search for this topic, but I got too many to try to sort through all of them.) I have the black gingham from SU, but I really want the other colors as well. I need to make a trip out today, but I don't want to stop at WalMart if I don't have to (two kids--it is too much of a hassle) .
i was able to buy the black and red gingham at wallymart in wilm, DE. they did not have the right (SU!) shades of blue or pink. but they did have one that looked precisely like old olive. so i bought that too, thinking SU! might add that to their line eventually. besides, i have seen the old olive gingham used right here on coastal. hope this helps. you really have to look around wallymart. they have their ribbons in a couple of different places, but all within the craft/fabric area.

Walmart has gotten some GREAT ribbon! I got black, burgundy and brown gingam plus some other great organdy. They have some others stripes and dots that are super cute too! It won't be a wasted trip!
The walmart ribbon is not as wide as the SU ribbon
I have black, hot pink, light pink, mossy green, royal blue,
lite blue and purple.
It's worth the trip they have many other ribbons too.

The ribbon that I have purchased is a different consistency and a little different in with than the SU ribbon. I got some that looked like old olive and also some that looked like baroque burgundy. I am keeping my fingers crossed that SU will get even more colors than the 4 they currently carry.
I use the black from Walmart it is 12 feet for $1.88. They have many colors but waiting to see if SU brings more colors in the new IB&C in July. Then will order them then.
The SU ribbon is actually cheaper. I paid 1.88 at walmart for 7/8 inch white organdy It was 12 feet. That is .15666 a foot. The SU ribbon is 75feet for 6.25. That is .08333 a foot. The SU grosgrain is more narrow than the walmart stuff. I think that a lot of us look at the price on the SU ribbon and dont take into account that the spool is smaller at walmart. The grosgrain spool at WM is 18 feet, the SU is 75 feet.
On one of the threads I think I remember others stating that they thought the SU ribbon was of better quality and didn't fray as much... or it was a question someone was asking!!!
I have both and I think the Walmart is thicker and clearly better quality. They have 8 colors at my Walmart. It is much cheaper if you look at the "by the foot price" plus remember, you pay no shipping!! I like to run a marker over mine and make it 2 colors. The black looks really nice with Bliss Blue or Yoyo Yellow. I like the Olive colored with Mellow Moss too. The Walmart frays less IMO. It also lies flatter because it is thicker.

Anyone remember???
I don't know if it was a question someone was asking or not, but I have both the Wal-Mart gingham and the SU gingham. The SU kind is definitely a better quality and definitely does not fray as much. I used many many many rolls of the Wal-Mart ribbon on my Christmas cards before I ordered the SU kind. It's hard to explain, but the Wal-Mart kind is more grainy... not as tightly woven as the SU ribbon. In my experience, this does make it much more subject to fraying. I think the Wal-Mart ribbon is great in a pinch, but I am much happier with my SU gingham.
Another place that has great selections is Hobby Lobby. You don't have to buy the whole roll...you can buy as many yards as you want. They have Disney and some other decorative ribbons as well as the plain colors. Good hunting!
Interesting that the SU gingham works out to be cheaper than the Wal-mart stuff. That being said, I am able to buy 3 different colors of gingham at Walmart for the price of buying one from SU....I may not get the quantity, but I do get variety.
Keep in mind that most of will never use 75 yards of pink gingham ribbon so it would not be cheaper in the long run to buy SU. I like many of the products that SU puts out, but I am not blindly of the mindset that everything they have is the "best". There are many good products out there and most of us have a limited amount of funds we can spend on non-essentials. It would be nice if SU offered some of their products in smaller quanities at a lesser price - I am reluctant to spend $6 for a spool of ribbon, knowing that with s&h it's really closer to $7.
Not being a demo, I have the luxury of shopping around and not feeling pressured to buy only SU products. Hope this doesn't ruffle too many feathers, but this is how an average stamping consumer views it....
So Michael's is the cheapest, followed by SU, followed by Walmart. Go figure!
I think the Michael's ribbon (offray) is a bit wider than the walmart ribbon (also offray) if you buy it in the dots, dashes, and checks line of ribbons.
Boss - here is a possible solution if you like the SU ribbon quality, but don't want the quantity. Talk to your demo to see if any of her other customers feel the same way. Then maybe 2 or 3 of you could split the ribbon. You would be paying the price for one whole roll, but getting 2 or 3 colors! I've had 3 seperate ribbon groups that did that and that is how I got all the ribbon myself. Splitting it 3 ways still gives you plenty of ribbon, and you are getting the variety at the same time.
I do like the quality of the SU ribbon better than any other I have purchased so far. I bought some organdy before becoming a demo at JoAnn's and it was much stiffer and harder to work with. It was also wider, I think. So, I bought that ribbon but never used it on my cards because it was hard to work with. Once I bought some SU ribbon, I loved it and use ribbon a lot now. And that cheap roll, I think I still have some. I started using it when I wrapped Chrsitmas presents.

Thanks for stating the facts Kimberly. (fellow ribbon freak)
...well for that matter I am an embellishment freak, stamp set freak, paper freak, SCS freak and I guess just a stamping freak in general most of the time!!!!
Wow!! Thanks everyone for your help. I really need some red gingham for a project that I am working on, and I need it now, so I will check Wal Mart, Michaels, and Hobby Lobby. I will then in the future get it from SU because I love the quality of their ribbons.
I just ordered some ribbon from http://www.reasonableribbon.com/ this week. Haven't received it yet, but the communication I've had (confirmation, etc.) has been great. Can't wait to see the ribbon.
