O.k. I don't know how you guys that do mass production of cards can stand it!! I am working on 30 (I know that is not too many to some of you) baby announcements, and I am going crazy!!!! I should have known better than to wait until 2 weeks within my due date!
I thought I had a design that would be easy to replicate, but I should have known better. One thing led to another, and another thing didn't work out, so I had to try this other idea. . . and on and on!!! These are taking me forever to do, so I thought I would escape to SCS for a little while. Reading through these posts and flipping through the gallery is relaxing me.
I'm through whining, but does anybody have any tips for making mass production move a little faster??

You are just in a waiting game! Enjoy your stamping time right now and get lots of rest! I measure my papers and cut them all at once. It depend on your particular card but then I stamp and if I have coloring to do I do all that at once too and then assemble...so if I am tearing I do all of that at once etc...and then I look at it and say, "Whew, I have all the tearing done, now all I have to do is the eyelets and bows...or whatever." So as I get closer I can see my progress. But then, I have made 300 of the same card before...
Don't forget to post and post a picture of you baby so all your SCS family can see!
I hate mass producing!!!! I am going to the Atlanta Regionals next weekend and I haven't even started making any swap cards. I thought I would do 50 but now I'm thinking 25. :?
As far as making it go faster, I have no idea. Sorry!! Good luck with your announcements and congratulations on the baby!

Yes, follow Laurel's instructions. Do all the prep first and then assemble.
You can break it down into smaller batches to make it less assembly-line like. That way you at least get part of the load completed before the critical "in-the-mail-by" date looms on the horizon and the burden of finishing is not so heavy.
Right now I'm in the middle of doing 6x6 scrap swap (27). I like doing batches of 10 - 15 at a time. I have done a 100 swap - not fun at all and found that doing it in smaller batches were much more managable.
Wow!!!! 100, 300?????? You ladies are CRAZY!!!
I'm actually jealous; I lack the attention span and the patience to complete that many!

No, this is not my first. I actually have two boys -- ages 4 and 3. I manage to stamp while they are awake, but I have to face the consequences of a house torn to pieces when I am finished!!! :lol:
Rita, do you make that many ALL the same to pass out to all your customers?
It's great to have different ones to pass out, but of course we were simply discussing the monotony when you have to/choose to make 100 or more all the same.
Assembly line!! Ta da!!!!

Hey! Someone else going to regionals who hasn't really started their swap cards. I've done less than 10.
I do find that if I do them in stages...all the coloring, then all the cutting, etc as was mentioned earlier....it's not as bad.
But.....if these are your baby anouncements....MAKE THEM ALL DIFFERENT IF YOU WANNA!!!
I must be the only one that doesn't mind mass production. I like to be able to have one for myself and enough for anyone and everyone. Plus having a lot of family it is easier to make the same Christmas card for them all. Plus 1/2 of them appreciate that it is handmade while the other half just doesn't care. (I am thinking of just buying them stupid cheap Walmart cards, and make something much nicer for those who care!)
Currently I am working on scrapbooks for my dd kdgn class (yes one for each child) 22 of them. This is a bigger project than doing 100 or so cards.
The main thing is to get a prototype or your idea all made up then go from there. Most definatly have a plan first.
Cut the c/s, stamp images cut out if needed and assemble.
Another thing when mass producing you can pack up part of your project and work on in the car during long boring road trips. :shock:

NO WAY! :lol: These are for swaps I participate in. I just let my customers look at all the ones I've received in return (plus the ones I made). I only give away the cardfronts when the stampset used on it retires.
I've learned to design a card, then make one or two more in that design before committing to it--sometimes I don't notice the fussiness factor built in to the first card and live to regret it.
The suggestion about having a friend (or hubby) join you is a great one. We all need stamping buddies and there's good companionship in working on a project together. I find it easier to help someone else on their cards than to ask for help on mine--but maybe just go for it.

I think I misread you before. Yes, I have done 101 (extra one for the hostess) of the same card for last year's new catty swap. It was great figuring out the design, but after the first 15 it was a chore. I broke the remaining down into batches of 20 in order to finish up on time. And even then I ran into trouble with spilling water (or was it coffee - I don't remember) on part of my already finished batches and had to redo quite a few of them at the last minute. It was a long couple of nights to get it all done on time.
Mel: I agree with the others. Do everything in batches. (Cut all pieces needed, then stamp 1 color at a time, then next color, then assemble, etc.)
I just did about 30 invitations for a baby shower for my SIL and it got to be monotonous. I am expecting my third (and last) baby on June 1 and plan to make announcements. I'm going to make them several different kinds, though, to break the boredom.

Oh my gosh, Rita! You had to REDO them! That's like a life sentence being extended! LOL... just kidding.
No it can't be THAT bad because a lot of people do it. I've always heard that once you get the design down, if you assembly line it, it works. My upline does more same-kind cards, and she'll take parts with her to kids appointments where she just sits and waits and works on them!!!

LOL! I hate mass production!! I have regionals next week, too, and I haven't felt good. None of my cards have gotten done!! At this point, I don't think they will. I have a techniques class on Monday night, so I have to get prepared for that. Oh well ... I guess I will just have to miss the swap part of the regionals. :(
I am like most of the rest of you - I also hate mass producing cards. Takes all the fun out of stamping! That being said, I have made shower invitations MANY times, and have also done wedding invitations twice. I don't enjoy it, though - just do it because I love the people I'm doing it for. Designing the invitation is the fun part - making 200 IS NOT!!!
