I am not a HUGE stamper (mostly in my scrapbooks). I have all of the SU spots (not the craft spots...just the regular inks). But, last weekend I went to a stamp expo and fell in LOVE with the Cat's Eye fluid chalks by Colorbox. I REALLY want them! Do I need them? Those of you that have them....do you LOVE them? What would be the big enough difference between them and the spots that would justify my owning both.
Location: in a quiet library with plenty of books, a pot of tea, dark chocolate, and a purring cat

I use Chalk Inks all the time and want to get the Cat's Eyes the next time Hobby Lobby has a 1/2 off sale. I think the smaller size will be great for edging and distressing. The ink itself is great; good color coverage, juicy pad, quick drying, enough said!

Along with all the other good points, they are fairly cheap and since they are sold individually you can buy them as you can. Add a couple to each shopping trip, you know, like we crafters do.

I have the chalk ink in the Petal Point form, from SU, as well as about 10 other colours in the Cat's Eye form... they are great! They have a totally different look than the dye ink... a bit more opaque... they dry to look kinda like chalk... they are GREAT for doing direct to paper, and distressing, if you're into that kinda thing. I use them all the time!
And I agree with Doodlepie99. I am all about doing this hobby strictly for my own enjoyment... I don't splurge shoes or clothes or anything like that, so if I LOVE something craft related, I buy it regardless of if I think I'll use it a lot. Probably not the best philosphy for planning for my retirment, but hey, I'm having fun! Isn't that what it's all about anyway?

I love my chalk ink too, for a while after SU came out with them I couldn't put them down. I use them a lot and have had them a couple of years and I haven't reinked them yet.

Oh you are all so BAD! I have been eyeballing them on eBay. So, since i am probably going to get them my next questions is this: How much are they? Does anybody know the Hobby Lobby price (then I can determine what they will be during their next sale.

A few at a time? What does that mean? You mean I have a choice? I don't have to buy ALL of them at one time and then wonder when I will ever have time to use each one? :confused:

Ok, someone talk me into buying these...
Can someone tell me what these are like IRL? I have never stamped with any thing except SU! ink pads. Are they like normal ink that just looks different? Do they dry just like the ink I use and do they smudge? Chalk in my mind means smudge...THANKS!
I love chalk inks. They are the first inks I ever owned. I have full size pads. minis, and cats. They give such a nice soft chalky color. They are not the ink of choice for very detailed stamps as they do tend to feather. Great for DTP also. I have never had any problems with these inks staining my rubber or clear stamps. HTH.
LOVE my Cat's Eye Fluid Chalk Inks -- gorgeous colors, beautiful coverage, so easy to use! They give a different look to stamped projects -- so pretty. I haven't noticed the staining problem mentioned though. I say get them -- you'll love having them!

Hobby Lobby sells them in three packs. I have a zillion of them. I love them.The color is so vibrant!!!! Never a bald spot!

I have all four chalk wheels from Color Box (got them on sale from Joanns.com last year for $10.50 each). The chalk ink is really quite neat to work with and has qualities that regular pads don't. I made the card below with them.
You can chalk your CS, rainbow brayer over it with regular ink and stamp with bleach. The bleach will bleach out the rainbow ink but not the chalk. Such a neat trick.
You really should get them!!

I LOVE Cat's Eye pads in general! The shape makes them very easy to hold and wonderful for getting in small spaces because of the pointy ends.
The chalk Cat's Eyes are equally wonderful. While the original Cat's Eyes are pigment ink, these are chalk pigment ink. They dry better/faster with a really cool, soft look. They actually feel sort of chalky, too, if you run your finger across the dried ink, although they don't smudge.
I haven't purchased any in a few years now, but the price used to be 1.99 each. The only objection I ever had to these was that the lid occasionally pops off too easily.

I love my cat eye chalk inks, my dew drops and my Encore Metallics cubes, they come in such beautiful colors! These are the first inks I bought when I started stamping. I like that I can carry all of them with me where ever I go. I have several square three tiered plastic containers that I purchased from Home Depot to carry both sets, a few reinkers and stipple brushes in, then I am never without my favorite colors. They are very affordable. You can buy a few at a time and end up with a nice collection! Happy Stamping!!

Ladies at my stamp club use them and then forget to clean them and if you don't clean them straight away, I have found to my hours of elbow grease that they stain. Still love them though!
I would say yes because you do not have craft ink. Double check but I believe you can emboss with chalk ink. Then you wouldn't need colored EP, just use clear. There are also other techniques that you might like to try. Check the resources and see if any interest you. If not then classic spots is enough.
