Question about retiring sets

How many sets get retired every year?

I had heard somewhere that it was around 180 this past year. Is it like that all the time. That could hurt financially being a demo since you wouldn't be able to use those sets at workshops and such.

I have no idea how much a demo can make so I don't know if it offsets the costs of having to purchase more stamps

I sell my retired sets to my customers and sometimes post them elsewhere to sell. I get back my investment in these. I do occassionally keep a few sets that I really like.

Some of us sell our retired sets at stamp camps for a nice discounted price to customers, or have a 'stamping garage sale' of sorts during classes or camps. Sometimes, retired sets are found for sale or trade right here on SCS. Some sets just never leave their original home, since they're loved for personal use! The $$ you get by selling them when they retire, can quickly turn into new stamp sets!! The retiring sets give way to new favorites pretty quickly ... look how everyone is dancing over the new ones now!

I think it vaires each yet but it's about the same. I don't see it as a loss at all. I will usually only buy sets that I know I will use for personal use so even if I can't demonstrate them I still use them. I think about 40 of my sets were on the retired list this year! I just put them in a separate area and use them when I am doing my personal stamping. I also have customer that come over and want to use them because they can no longer buy them.
