Yep - FREE!! No coupon needed, no store to go to....my MOM has the box of 120 pencils!!! She bought them about 5 years ago, used them a couple of times for use in her quilting and they have been sitting on a shelf ever since!! I went over there today and she was showing me a new quilt she was making (BEAUTIFUL!!) and low and behold.....the pencils were on her shelf in her craft room collecting dust!!! :shock: I told her the deal about SCS and the stumps and mineral spirits.....Dad went to his craft room and got some of his SU! stamps and mineral spirits, I ran to the store and bought stumps and we were all coloring away!!! We also tried it with the SU! watercolor pencils, and some other really old colored pencils that my mom had back when she went to teacher's college, and it works with all of them, however, the color with the Prisma is far superior. WHOOOO HOOOO!!! I'm so excited - I couldn't believe it! Just had to share my good luck that I stumbled upon today!!
Okay, first of all, COOL!! And i can just picture the three of you coloring away..second of all..your DAD has a workroom and his own stamps?? COOL!!! My dad has Hiltie Guns and Sawz-Alls....Kerilou
Hey Pam - what a find !!
What paper did you use with the prisma pencils and mineral spirits? I have been experimenting and I'm not getting what I think should be a smooth apperance to my coloring. Maybe you can tell me what I'm doing wrong.
Anyway, I'm happy for your find and what a way to go - a Dad that understands artistic creativity !! So that is where you get all your talent !!
My dad had his own stamps - not SU but foam stamps. He did wood crafts and after seeing my SU collection decided that stamps with acrylic paint would be a quick and easy way to accent his wood crafts.

Thanks to all of you for your enthusiasm to my dumb luck!! As to the question of what stumps are, they are paper rolled up. Check out the links below for more details and pictures:
P.S.: As to what type of paper we practiced on, we used US white. But, be careful, it bleeds through to the back of the paper sometimes, depending on how wet your stump is, so be careful what you are laying your paper on - you don't want your mineral spirits bleeding thru and messing up your work surface.

I sure do! I tell my sister to keep an eye out at her dorm at the end of each quarter, and especially at the end of each school year, for things I might be able to use. SCAD has rolling admission, meaning that you can enter at the start of any academic quarter, so there are people completing their degrees every quarter. You wouldn't believe what kids toss as they're moving out in preparation for graduation! She's scored a digital camera (that still works), an unopened 10-lb. block of clay, two unused 1-lb. packages of Super Sculpey, the $75 set of textbooks for one of her upcoming classes, and I think some animation paper. I was telling her about my final project for my decorative arts class, and that's how I found out she had the polymer clay. The packages cost about $10 each at the campus bookstore and the local student/alumni-run art store, and I got one for absolutely nothing!
Other items that she has seen -- computers, televisions, boxes of yarn (fibers students), furniture, rugs, all kinds of art supplies... the list goes on and on. All you folks who love to go to yard sales, I highly recommend heading for the dorms at your local colleges and universities at the end of the year!

My husband was a police officer on a college campus and he brought home a stereo with a 5 disc changer and seperate speakers! Perfect condition...one of the students put it out at the dumpster. A lot of them don't pay for the stuff and don't want to move it so they toss it! I second the dumpster diving around dorm moving time!
Congratulations! But even sweeter than your fabulous deal is the image of you stamping and coloring with your parents. That is just precious! I love it!
Lucky you! I still haven't checked out the cards and stuff made using these - I'm scared that if I do, I'll NEED to get these things too!!! My husband already thinks I have too much!
Way to go! What I would do to have 120 pencils of various colours - oh the fun I'd have....

It was a great image seeing myself and my parents at the kitchen table coloring!! Especially with my Dad being sick. He was diagonosed in July of '04 as having pancreatic cancer. He has been doing chemo ever since, once a week. For him to get jazzed about something as small as coloring at the kitchen table brought tears to my eyes, and my parents, and we all got a little "verklempt" as Mike Myers is famous for saying.
It was truly a bitter sweet moment, and thank you, addicted2stamps, for bringing up a personal note on the whole situation without knowing it. I think that is mainly the whole reason I posted this = not only did I get a great deal, it was a "photo" opportunity in my memories.
Wow! What a deal! You lucky duck. I got mine for the $41.63 price and considered myself lucky. I saw them at Michael's for the $149 price. I would never have bought them at that price. I haven't gotten a chance to use them yet, in fact they are still in the box unsharpened. I can't wait though. I look forward to seeing everyone's samples.
