I went looking for the swirl clips I use in my collage cards, and bought 4 Hero Arts flower stamps...............I betrayed SU!, and feel so guilty! But I have a flower obsession and it overwhelmed me at the rubber stamp store, plus my willpower was shot after all the prep I've been doing for upcoming shows. Not a good combination for being good! I also had the ribbon set in my hand and put it back. I wish they sold just the zig zag one, because that is the one I would use most.
Off to get dinner going and then play with my contraband!!
I think it's entirely possible that there are others out there like you. I for
one have crossed that line once, well, maybe twice. I can relate to the
guilt that you are feeling. I was in Micheal's yesterday. I bought a few of
the $1 stamps everyone has been raving about. There! I admitted it! There are some awfully cute Hero Arts stamps. I can understand that you
gave in to your temptation. I for one, forgive you, if you can forgive me.
Many of us have a few weaknesses with contraband, I'm afraid.
You are not alone.
My contraband consists mostly of Celtic/English stamps, Cat stamps, and Word stamps.
These are subject areas that SU couldn't possibly meet all my needs in or their catty would have to be a HUGE one if it did!
I try to stay away from non-SU paper and ribbon, though... good girl for putting the ribbon set back! Its a good thing I don't have to give you an electronic hand slap for that!
OOOOHHHH, I'm tellin'! I buy alphabets everywhere I go. I was even compelled to buy this strange little alphabet stamp set at the thrift store the other day. It has little fingers on the back that grip into hard black plastic channels. I think it is made for people to create their own return address stamps....
It was only 50 cents. I used it today. Strange, but it worked.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one. My weak spot is Roman, Greek, Renaissance stamps and literary quotes. SU! just doesn't do old old world stuff!
But ...I'm totally faithful when it comes to paper and ink....that makes it ok doesn't it?

I'm a stamp ho  I'm thinking about finding a CTMH rep in my area who would want to do a deal so we could get each others goods at demo prices.
My sister is on a design team for a magazine and they sent her a huge box of products. To make a long story short she gave me the Hero Arts catalog. I did not buy it but feel guilty that it is even in my house! Ha!

i have a few hero arts.. they have some great stamps..
there are a few stamps that SU just doesnt make.. like my favorite stamp is of a pregnant lady profile.. kinda retro looking.. i just LOVE it.. and SU has nothing comparable.
Ok, you bought $1 stamps... try spending $104 on other stamps...
my only defense... we don't sell stamps like these...
biblical impressions??
i have a hard time not spending a ton of money there!!
Yeah,
I LOVE all the verse and word stamps at Biblical Impressions. I must admit I forgot to mention that weakness earlier. I guess BI hasn't been at the top of my mind lately. Thanks for reminding me. I need to go check and see what is on their sale page.
I have bought a few stamp sets from TAC. I was looking and looking for a nice Irish one and theirs was EXACTLY what I looking for. SU! had nothing comparable.
My friend recently became a CTMH demo. While I don't love any of their stamps, their paper is to die for!
And while I am cleansing myself of guilt: I too, have bought the Prismacolor pencils. GASP!
I kept thinking it would only be a one time thing...but each time an opportunity arrises...I cannot hold back!
Over a year ago I bought a Hero Arts stamp called Wildflower. The impression was made from a real flower and then made into a stamp. It looks very similar to Petal Prints. I fell in love with it and had to have it. I wouldn't buy stamps similar to SU stamps... what would be the purpose? But I do have a semi-extensive collection of non-SU stamps. However, for stamping, I only just SU paper and inks. For scrapbooking, of course, I use other printed papers, since our supply is so limited.
It's not a sin... I'd be willing to bet that even Shelli Gardner has non-SU stamps. lol

Tee-hee!!
I bought a CTHM set becuase I love it so much!!!!!
I understand .... I totally want a stamp that says "Sucks to be you" Sometimes that is a really appropriate sentiment. Like when my football team kicks your team's heiney...

Tamara--Love that, I would like to find that also.
Well, I just ordered an awesome collage stamp that says TIME in big letters and has a clock and butterfly and junk and a $10 catalog for a store in Wichita, KS - Mrs. O'leary's. Their website isn't much yet, but their catalog has some really different stuff in it. Love it and I don't even feel guilty. (PS the time stamp is on their web page)

What do these other stamps look like???? I too must admit that I broke down and bought 12 $1 stamps from Mike's. I just couldn't resist!
But I did place a $80 SU order later that day.
You are all TOO funny. I have bought a few small stamps other places since I discovered SU. The two non-SU pads I have is the black square Marvy I got when I started stamping and a Big & juicy.
My problem is ribbon. I have SU ribbon but I have tons of non. And the funny thing is, I rarely use ribbon on my cards. So what's up with that?
And, no offense intended for Dream Impressions because they have some really cute stuff too but I kind of consider their stuff contraband, not the stuff the SU doesn't carry. We can't have EVERYTHING.

Arghhhh!!!! You all are costing me money!
Can you explain to me what the "full sheets" are at BI. They are on the discontinued page. TIA!
I have lots of stamps from other companies and I don't feel guilty at all. I don't like a lot of the sets from SU and find individual stamps that really fit my style and meet my tastes - that have definitely changed over the years. That is part of why I didn't become a demonstrator - then I know I wouldn't buy any other stamps. Part of my love of this craft is the HUNT for new products - including stamps.
I'm a demonstrator and don't really have a big problem with buying "contraband." I just have never bought so many at one time! It's a big stamping world and lots and lots to love! I buy what I like, most of what I own is SU because I do love them, the paper, ribbons, and inks are awesome. I do own others that I love, I just don't demonstrate them, obviously, and use them for personal use, which I do alot more than demonstrate, anyway. This post was started in jest, as I'm sure most of you know, anyway...........
Naughty, naughty girl!! J/K I have a weakness for stamps. Any chance I get, I will visit stamp stores and go crazy. Just can't help it. But........I rarely end up using them. Now, my SU! stamps, they are well loved and get used daily. I love the quality and the cost. I've been buying SU! for 12 years and still can't seem to get enough.
I , too just love stamps. When I started with SU they carried other company's stuff. In fact they had over 20 different companies. So I have a lot of stamps I won't part with because they are not like stuff the SU has now.
I did see a Dream Impression set that I really want. I haven't really cared for the patriotic stuff SU has (a few) but not like this set. I got into stamping because I do calligraphy. Well, this set has a background set that shows the Preamble to the US Constitution!! I am still waiting for a local stamp company to have a stamp available that is the first page of Maximillion's prayer book. I would also like to have a copy of the stamp from the Book of Kells!
I can't help admiring really good calligraphy! I guess this is one of my many weakness!!
I am not a demo so I feel absolutely no guilt when I buy other stamps, ink, paper, embellishments. I will say I have over 130 SU stamp sets I have accumulated in the last 2 years and all 48 colors of SU inks and papers and use those most. But also had colorbox and versamagic chalk inks before SU started carrying them. I had the hero arts "real flower" stamps before SU came out with Petal Prints. I have fallen in love with Outlines and Holly Berry House stamps - SU doesn't have anything that compares. I bought microbeads from Penny Wise Arts before SU carried them - and PWA has fabulous colored beads that SU doesn't carry. I love the Bazill Basics and Stardream cardstock and have been know to use the 5 free sheets of cardstock coupon from Archivers - typically colors SU doesn't carry like a true peach, a neat denim blue and a real purple. I will say that the SU cardstock is the heaviest but wish they had more monochromatic options like Bazill. SU shimmery white is great but I also like having colors like lilac, pink, bronze, copper etc that the Stardream comes in and is shimmery as well. I'm an equal opportunity spender...they all get too much of my money.
Fran,
Are the Outlines & Holly Berry House stamps in retail stores or available
online? I'm not familiar with those names. Thanks in advance for your
reply!
Thanks loads for the links! Because now, of course I'm going to HAVE to
check them out & probably will find something I'm going to NEED to buy!
Don't we ever have enough stuff?
Fran,
I do believe I've heard that before! Maybe it was you I heard it from.
It does make me chuckle! Thanks for the laugh. Now I'm going to bed.
Too much computer time tonite!
Kimilou, Those full sheets are 6x9 inch sheets of rubber. Stamps in their original form, fresh out of production. You cut them apart, put mounting cushion on the back, and trim just like you would SU stamps. Then you can mount them to a wood block, or use them with the cling backing or the sticky on acrylic blocks. I purchased some of those, and got my mounting cushion from www.merrystamper.com. My acrylic blocks came from ebay. (All my unmounteds are in a 3-ring binder filled with page protectors (the page inside the protector has the images stamped on it.)

I too like stamps other than SU. (although I adore many of those as well!! ) I tend to like more artistic, or altered book looking stamps and LOVE LOVE LOVE words! SU is working hard to keep up with the collage looking trend, and I am buying up everything that fits that look, but they don't have everything that I want. I think it's fine. We all spend tons of money on SU, and no one can beat the cardstock and ink!!
back to the swirl clips. Saw them at Target in the stationary department. I think they were $2.99 for 50. I don't know WHY I didn't get them then.
I have these clips, too, but the ones I really love are much smaller, both in diameter and in gauge. So, I am still on the hunt, they are out everywhere in Santee and the outlying areas of La Mesa, and Rancho San Diego. The ones I like to use are made my Making Memories, and are about 1/2 in diam are an antique metal look.
