Default huffing?

ok, help me out scs what is huffing? i have seen the term used several times but not clear enough for me to know what it is and why you would do it?

When you color on your stamps with markers in order to have more than one color on the image, the ink will usually dry before you have a chance to stamp onto the paper. Huffing (at least for a stamper) is when you breathe onto the stamp to remoisten the ink.

Very few questions asked here are new, so if you ever need an answer in a hurry a search of the forums will usually produce the info you need!

To my knowledge, it's when you color a stamp with markers, you then "huff" (aka heavy breath) on it to make sure the ink is still moist enough for stamping...

One of the funniest things I ever heard about stamping was in reference to stamping with markers & huffing. Once you get your stamp colored, give it your best "1-900 number breath", because stamping really gets you THAT excited!

Maybe it's just MY sense of humor, but I thought it was a hysterical description, and I use it to this day every time I demo the technique.

Huffing reminds me of cleaning my eye glasses to moisten them before applying the tissue.... I think you get the picture only do it ot your stamp not your glasses....lol

The funniest thing about huffing is being in a class with 12 ladies and everyone starts huffing at once.

Whoa... when I first saw the title it scared me... I just sat down at the computer and was not in a stamping mind set yet. So when I see "huffing?" in the list of current topics, I immediately thought of that thing young kids have figured out they can do to get high...

Not to derail the subject or anything but I have to share since it's been a while since I thought about it so someone out there must need to hear this...

While serving as a youth director one of my youth who was 8-yr old died from inhaling the fumes from aerosol cans. And the term used at the time was "huffing." The chemical is an aerosol can produces an effect the same as drug, giving you a "high" if inhaled directly and long enough. This little girl had never done it before, she had a fatal allergic reaction. She and two other friends where in a garage... and or course she did it only because another teased her... When we talk to our kids about substance abuse, it's not only about marijuana and alcohol...

Again sorry to derail this one, but I had to...

In stamping terms though... it's that heavy breath you give to a stamp to reactivate the ink particularly if you've used markers to ink it.

The dorks that stole my car a few weeks ago were huffing STP engine treatment! I know this because they left it in the backseat of my car!!!

The only huffing I do is on my rubber stamps.... I often find that it helps to huff on them before I stamp all images- it helps the inkspread across the image more!

It's still called huffing, Stampin Patriot. My sister and I were shopping for materials for her latest 3D design class project last weekend, and she needed silver paint. Since she didn't need a lot of it, I picked out two bottles of the kind you use on model cars. She had to prove she was over 21 when she scanned it at the self-checkout! Her birthday was this past November, but I guess I could have made the purchase if she wasn't old enough. Funny, it didn't raise any flags when I bought a can of spray primer a few weeks ago.

Huffing is the heavy breathing we all do at the new catties when they come out! Hahaha!
No really, it is a breath we do to refresh the moisture in the ink before you stamp your image when you use markers or even an ink pad that maybe is a little dry.

The first time my customers asked me the question at a demo went something like this:

#1: How do you get multiple colors on stamps?
ME: You use your Stampin' Write markers to put individual colors on.
#2: What do you to do keep them from drying out?
ME: Huffing.
#1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9, #10, #11 & #12: --all in unison-- **HUFFING CAN KILL YOU!!!!!!**

Needless to say, audience analysis would have helped here - mostly moms of teenagers and pre-teens. Now I just refer to it as a "Killer Stamping Technique" and the story has traveled so much that my customers all know what I'm talking about. ~ K

funny story. i was at a workshop, and the husband of the hostess was in and out of the kitchen grabbing snacks. between the talk of "huffing" and "mounting" (you know, your stamps), he couldn't help but raise his eyebrows and come out even MORE frequently (sure, for 'food')!!!!!!! :lol:
