OK!! I know we don't need another thread about this...
However....I have never had a desire to own Just Jeans.
Never.
Until now.
Daggonit Lana!!!
My husband survived this first year of my stamping. I don't know how he'll survive the first year of SCS!!

Heck, what are ya'll complaining about???? I just bought the demo kit during the first of the year (200 because of SCS)! Then I turned around and spent over 100 to get 2 SAB stamp sets because of JanTInk!! It's her fault! She made me do it. That's what I tell my DH when I can't buy the groceries (just kidding, I swear we aren't starving)!

LOL~!! I feel the same way - I started stamping in July of 2003 and I have accumulated so much stuff! While unpacking this time my hubby says "looking at your CRAFT area I get a sick stomach thinking about how much money is over there"!! Little does he know there is about 4 times more than what he thinks there!!! I will never tell tho!!!
Most of my spending on stamps is because of SCS and all the awesome cards and pages that everyone shares......
A never ending circle!

Let's not talk about cost....let's just talk about all the background stamps a person can't live without!
2 years ago, I had soft swirls. Now I have about 10! You gotta admit they're just too easy to "make" a card!!
And yes, Lana is the root of all evil.....as are the rest of those "Dirty Girls" in the DDD!
But I for one LOVE their creativity, they keep me inspired to keep stampin'!

Okay, I have to stop this nonsense here -- I only have one background stamp! I just can't use it enough to rationalize buying anymore when there are so many other awesome stamps sets I can get for $16.95 -- help, is something wrong with me?

Thank you for making this post... I SO AGREE with you. I never wanted that Just jeans background until I saw that card today and I can't tell you how many times I thought about it. In fact I never ever thought of layering two background stamps over one another and that card was so pretty. This place is getting pretty dangerous. Wonder what other background stamps would layer nicely?

Obviously, Joy, you aren't spending enough on stamps and the like if you don't have your cc# memorized......like I do! Including the special code on the back.

Amanda-I wanted to address your question. It's a good one. And I too once felt the same way, but it is amazing what a background stamp can do to a card. It brings it to the "next level"-if that makes sense. And there are so many possibilities with them. The other day I made a card with a mini envelope on it and used my Canvas background stamp to line the inside of the envelope. (See attachment below.) It's the little things that make a big impact. I got my first background stamp over a year ago. It was Soft Swirls-can I tell you how EASY that made my wedding shower thank you cards! FAST! But then I have just bought Canvas and By Definition and have got my hands on a retired Script Stamp and I want even more! Check out what some of our amazing women have done on here and you might find yourself quickly convinced.

Background stamps are definately one of my weaknesses or the strengths. Depending how you look at it! Just Jeans was the first one I bought when it was new. I've really have used it alot. I just designed a 6 X 6 page using it and the sixxiz jeans pocket. I made a pocket out of it with brads and snail adhesive, then stamped " pocket of love" at the top. It really is cute. I'd wish I could share it with you but I'm technology challenged. Still don't know how to use my scanner very well and I need other help with downloading and posting it in the gallery. I also made a really cute tag using By Definition.
The background stamp I like the most and also my first background purchase is the Antique Lace. I really wish it would come back .

SU makes the absolute best background stamps on the planet. I have bought a few others but there size just drives me nuts. SU's variety is great...I'm really glad I bought the ones they retired as I just love them and find it a lot easy than trying to match premade papers.

Oh, I also forgot to add that if you have a background stamp the soft rubber brayer is a must!! It truly the only way to ink a solid backgroundstamps well. And of course it always adds more to everyones order!

Amanda--I have felt the same way about some background stamps but when you get one that is good you'll use it on EVERY card!!!! When I got french script and canvas I used it on literally every card. It it totally worth the $16.95!
And for those who have read my other post I did it--I bought filigree tonight and I am so excited! (no buyers remorse!) and I will share my creations with you. That way stampintlw will have to get it too  ha!ha!

Amanda you are not alone...
I just started stamping about a year ago and background stamps kinda scared me. They seemed expensive at the time, big and over whelming and I just didn't see the value in them. When I discovered just jeans I wanted to grab it right off the page, I instantly knew I just had to have it and I have never looked back... I love it.
Everyone here is right...it's like "BAM" ...taken your cards up a notch !!!!
Then I purchased the canvas and love it just as much if not more. I have been going back and forth over paisly print, french script, by definition and filigree for several months but am becoming more and more convinced that it will be well worth it to have more on hand.
Start with one or try and borrow one and play with it...but be prepared...
you'll probably get hooked on them like everyone else...

Ladies you are just too much! I just found this site thanks to my upline and I am lovin' it.
The background stamps are a most wonderful invention and make our creations look "oh so wonderful". I am a fan of the French Script and the Love backgrounds. I can justify them due to the fact that they are so versatile and well used for many different projects. So I feel no shame, no guilt when adding one such as the Canvas background stamp to my collection. You have to love that one for a ton of beautiful ideas. It gives a nice aged look with vanilla craft ink. And oh so cool with embossing powder! :o
I am sure to make my DH wince at my new purchases due to ideas found on this site. Oh, and do they ever know how much "our stuff" is really worth or how much we really have spent. NO, never what good would that really do. Don't forget we can always use "stampin' is our creative outlet" to keep us sane from all the craziness in our lives. My DH loves that one and actually agrees! He is surprisingly supportive, I am very blessed.
Quote: If you can't be good, just be good at it (Stampin')!
Happy Stampin' and Creating (don't forget spending)

I too was alittle taken back by the cost of a background stamp. After seeing how much versatility there is in them I think they are woth the money. Who wouldn't pay $17 for a stamp they can use everytime was my justification for buying the Cavas background stamp this time!!
Out of curiousity, besides Just Jeans and Canvas what other background stamps do you think are worth buying?

french script and by definition are MUSTS in my book. They are so basic you can use them with anything!!!
I also have stipple plaid--I like it (I have to, it was my first background stamp) but I wouldn't consider it a must
I just ordered filigree--I'll let you know on that one soon ;)
Top four (and probably for most people on this site) include: by definition, just jeans, canvas & french script!

Diva Mom,
I think the card you are referring to was one that was mentioned in another background stamp thread. It is one of Lana's and it's amazing. I never would have thought of using TWO background stamps together! Here is the link to her card!

It must be me....I can't get the canvas background stamp to work for me! :( There are so many wonderful samples on there that I HAD to have it. But now I am questioning buying it. I have used it twice and both times it came out blotchy. I LOVE background stamps and don't have any problems with them, but this one is cursing me. I ink the stamp really good, I lay the paper on the upturned stamp, rub the paper with a flat surface to get all areas of the paper, lift the paper and....blotches!
Any suggestions??

Put the stamp on the floor and stand on it . You need to really give it alot of intense even pressure for the image to come out without blotches. On DIY scrapbooking the host, Sandi (also one of the creator of the Sizzix), mentions she puts her big background stamps and stands on them too!
I am sure somebody will probably have some better ideas but this is what works for me!!

Felicia, I had the came problem with Canvas being blotchy until I started using my brayer to ink up my stamp! Just ink up the brayer, turn the stamp rubber-side-up, apply ink with the brayer, put your cardstock on top of the inked stamp, take a piece of copy paper and put it on top and "walk" all over it with your fingers and hands and voila, perfect every time!!
One warning: if you're using black ink on your brayer, it will be hard to get it off. I bought a second brayer - one for very dark colors and one for everything else.
