Use Staz-on ink. It's in the catalog, page 224-225...somewhere in there.

I did a few cards in my gallery with them. I use Stazon- no fuss with embossing. It thread the buttons first then you have something to hold on to. So easy, I loving using them!

I agree, stazon would be easier, but the only color I have is black, which is why I went with craft & embossing - it is just another option.

Stazon works the best ~ let's all let SU know that we miss the colors!! Black and brown just don't let us be very creative...

Amen to that! I LOVE the STazOn colors and do quite a bit of stamping on non porous surfaces, like metal boxes, the Altoids style tins, CD tins, etc. even the lunchpail tins. And now, what's a stamper to do??? Yes, you CAN emboss by stamping in craft ink colors and using clear ep but trust me, this isn't nearly as easy as StazOn and I am still trying to figure it out. If anyone has any clues, I am all ears! Jan

I think the stamps with small designs work the best imho.
Another thought, stamping on buttons isn't limited to the clear ones either! Try stamping on regular ones too! Here's one of my earliest gallery additons, the card isn't 'all that' (I've learned so much on SCS since then) but I love the way the button came out with ultramarine stazon on an off white button, it almost looks like a blue willow plate :

Oh one more link!!! I just remembered this. I hope you can view it, if not, you HAVE to join the Dirty Dozen gallery, soooo worth the $!
This is from the fabulous Michelle Laylock and she used olive stazon and clear buttons to make this stunning necklace:
