Default Do you ever feel guilty for spending too much $$ on SU ?

I am not a demo, just a good customer.
Sometimes too good a customer.

Sometimes I feel guilty for the $$ I spend on SU supplies and stamping supplies in general. But I love it so much as a hobby and don't spend any money on smoking, drugs, gambling or anything other habit like that.

What are your feelings?

I sometimes feel that way to but I don't buy a lot of clothes or spend money on drugs, alcohol, gambling, or any other vice besides that we eat out alot. I have to know that I am using the stuff, it is calming to me to be able to go in and make a card, if I stop using it then I will feel bad but right now it is my hobby and I enjoy it. I like showing people the stuff I make and I like having a creative outlet. I figure my husband buys car parts, I buy stamps, it all works out

Guilty?!! No, never....... hahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!
Yes, I do feel guilty occasionally, but dh has his hobby as well and I sell on ebay and that mostly supports my SU as well as clothing addiction!

I feel guilt right after I place the order - it's the I can't believe I spent that much guilt. It is gone by the time the order arrives though.

I try not to feel guilty. I am a SAHM and so I don't get "paid" for all the work that I do. So, I figure that it is only fair that I get to buy some things that are for me to enjoy. And my DH knows he is very lucky because I do watch what I spend and I don't go crazy on jewelry, shoes, clothes, - only stamps.

I used to feel somewhat guilty until I became a demo. Now it supports itself. Besides, my dh spends M-A-N-Y $$$ on Lionel trains! I deserve an obsession too...and believe me, it IS an obsession!

Default Guilt....Ah, p*ss on it!

Do I feel guilty? Sometimes. But then I realize that the only time my husband ever takes me out to dinner is on my anniversary...or an office party that his career is riding on. And that it's been that way for nearly 12 of the 15 years that we've been married. And that in spite of the fact that he's been sober for the past 3 years, nothing has changed. Guilty? Not any more. I've spent *nothing close* to what he spent all those years on booze - I'm just getting warmed up. And at least I've got something to show for it - not something that was (**literally**) pissed down the drain.

Thanks goodness for my hobby....at least when I have a demo, I have a reason to get dressed up on a Friday or Saturday night! And if I sound bitter, maybe I am, maybe I'm not...I just accept reality for what it is and have learned to live my life for me! ~ Kaylyn

Default spending too much on SU

Well...sometimes the thought crosses my mind, I have to admit. But, when I get my new stamping stuff and start playing with it, I wipe that thought right out of my mind!! It makes me happy, so I'll continue to spend!

That's kind of how I feel (except for days when I balance the check book and think sh*t, did I really spend that much??? - then I close the checkbook and the feeling's gone again  )

I usually feel guilty too... but like most of you have already said, I don't spend money on drugs, drinking, etc. Even my husband tells his friends that he would rather me spend money on a hobby that I enjoy than to be going out drinking all the time.

Cheaper than a shrink, I say!

Seriously, sending cards is my outreach and caring ministry. If I kept everything I made, I *would* feel guilty (more than just the initial buyer's remorse).

Since I became a Demo no need for any guilt - everything I've bought (and it's way more than I would have gotten before I was a Demo) has been paid for from my "profit".

It's in my nature to feel guilty though, so for all the years I spent $$ on SU before becoming a Demo when I would start to feel that guilt creep up all I had to do was walk out to the garage. My DH's hobbies include vintage autos and vintage race cars. He encourages me to buy whatever I want. There's no way my stamp $$ will ever catch up to his car money!!

I would feel more guilty if I had to keep buying cards that cost $3.99 each to send out! So, no, I don't feel too guilty!

I used to....but while my dh was deployed I didn't!! It was my therapy/sanity while he was gone. Now I am a demo so I try to only spend what I can get for free (you know, only spend my commission.) I feel like then I can get what I want and not feel bad because it isn't coming out of the family funds. So far so good with that one!

Guilty...HA!!! Not one bit. I work so I can buy what I want when I want. And besides, DH supports what I do or buy. He buys ALOT of fishing stuff and misc JUNK...at least my hobby isn't JUNK! LOL

And I might add, I do spend a lot for SU.

Not at all. My hubby has a big ole fancy fishing boat, which I must admit we all enjoy, and also tackle box apon takle box of lures that are a min. of $6.00, he is also and avid hunter and I don't even want to think about the $'s in his gun safe. But he's an outdoorsy guy, we benifit from the fish and venison our freezer is stocked with, and stampin is my only "vise" so to say. (as is fishing and hunting to him) When I first got into stampin' he made one comment, "more stamps?" I asked him, " I have never said anything about the money you spend on your interests, and I really don't think you want to start comparing $'s spend" Shut him right up.

No matter how many stamps and supplies I buy, it STILL costs less than all the guns and ammunition my hubby has. Not to mention the duck calls, goose calls, turkey calls, deer calls, camoflauge clothing, boots, bags, etc. PLUS his four wheeler!!!

That's all I have to remind him of when he starts to complain about how much room my stamp stuff takes.

And he told me that he would buy my starter kit (for SU!) and then not buy another set of stamps. And I'm proud to say that he has NOT bought any more stamps, etc. since I became a demo three years ago.

I used to feel guilty. I am a SAHM and $ is very tight in our home. That's OK, because we have had to learn to be VERY good stewards over what God has given us. We have no credit cards, so any $ I spent came out of our family budget. My husband works to provide for his family and we also budget for him to be able to indulge in his hobby - wood working. I know that being a SAHM is a full-time job also. I joined a Stamp Club, and my husband was very excited for me to be able to spend $25 a month to continus my hobby, but I still felt guilty. That's why I became a demonstrator. I only do 2-3 shows a month and every bit I make goes back into it for my supplies. Now it doesn't cost our family budget anything. This is what has worked best for me and my family.

I should feel guilty... I spend a ton of bucks on stamps.. but then I do not smoke either and a lot money my husband spends on cig. butts goes up in smoke!! But on the lighter side... where can you go out and spend about $250.00 for a personalized greeting card!. Everytime I make a card I joke that the cost of the card has gone down... but then I buy more stamps, paper & supplies and the cost of the next card has escalated back up to $500.00 range!.. I concur... it is far cheaper then a shrink and lots more fun! LET THOSE CREATIVE JUCIES FLOW!

Guilty...nope! Nothing I do is more expensive than golf every saturday, the bills for the rebuilding of his 55 Nomad, the garage full of woodworking tools (and car tools, too) and all the gadgets he LOVES so much...

so guilt, nope! Besides, who does DH come to when he needs a great card for someone in his squadron? ME! It pays for itself, he says...at least I've got him believing that!

But my shoe habit...a tiny, tiny bit of guilt there...

A.

I don't feel guilty at all. My DH has his toys (motorcycle, ATV, boat & fancy pkup). I have mine. So far my toys only take up 1/3 of a 8x10 room. His toys take up a 2-car garage. Then we can start talking about the hunting accessories, fishing accessories and licenses. Then there's the trips to Montana, Colorado & Minnesota.

So, whenever DH starts to mention my stamps - I ask about a 50% reimbursement on his little vacations and toy purchases. Besides, I am a demo to get the discount and I work full-time. So, I earned the money to buy the stamps (didn't come out of household fund) and more importantly, I DESERVE these stamps to preserve my sanity.[/b]

I do feel very guilty, but I'm so happy when the order arrives. I have to make excuses to myself about what I don't spend money on like glasses of wine when we are at dinner, etc. My husband will usually have two beers or two glasses of wine when we go to dinner, and I drink a Diet Coke. I figure at $4 each for his drinks, that's about $8 a night times 3 nights a week = $24. That's a new stamp set, right? I hope so, because that's my excuse! (Of course I don't take into consideration all the nice clothes, shoes, etc. I buy myself. But if I did my excuse to buy SU wouldn't hold water, would it???)

Sure I feel guilty sometimes--- as I am a hobby demo and spend the most money sometimes just to fulfill my quarterly minimum.... But I also join a lot of swaps on here and find myself buying product just to keep up with all the swapping!!!!

But I love it--- I've been stamping for 11 years and I am only 25..... So, I think it's something I'll stick with for a while....

Default I don't...

My stamps pay for themselves as a demo....can you say TAX BREAK? My DH is whistling when it comes to the beginning of the year... plus...

When he decides that he needs another LESLIE speaker, or mucical peice of equipment, he never hesitates, (if he has the money)..

But for both of us.. if we buy something, it is never to the detriment of our family or children... its always something planned and agreed upon and discussed...so that way, its agreed, no guilt needed.

He knows I need a hobby too for my sanity, or we would all be miserable.

I feel guilty from time to time. Mainly since we were looking into and had purchased a home. LOTS of money! Also, my DH doesn't spend very much money at all. I have a feeling that is going to change since we bought the house and he will need a particular tool for a particular job. (Just like my stamping projects!) My DH is very supportive. I never really says anything about it and when I do feel guilty he either rationalizes it for me or just says, "IF it makes you feel better just don't buy anything for awhile."

I don't feel guilty. I talked to my friend in MN the other day and her mom was there...she got on the phone to say hi and during the conversation...thanked me for all the wonderful cards, etc. I don't send her cards, but she sees the ones I send to her daughter. It means something to even her. When I get Christmas cards with a note jotted in about how much they love my cards throughout the year, it means something to ME. I say each card is a "smile in every mailbox". I do it because I care, it is a creative outlet, etc. I have one friend here in town whose husband says he wouldn't get mad at me if he were my husband since I USE my stamps. ha ha (his wife stamps some, but mostly collects them) I agree with a previous poster that stamping can be a sort of ministry. It shows our love and appreciation for friends and family when they get a hand-stamped piece of art. No guilt here...I am thankful I can buy stamps, etc. I also have a very supportive husband that knows I budget on other things so we can have our hobbies.

I am a big "Guilt" person, but I have made progress in not feeling guilty about the stamps (DH is a hunter as well- as I see in above posts) & it is my only hobby.

WHen I really feel guilty though is when I get something & don't use it. - I had to have More Petal Prints & I have mounted them but they have never had ink on them. THat makes me feel guilty. I am a demo & now that the winter mini is almost over, I probably wont use them for a while. because I can't show them until they appear (I HOPE) in the next catty.

Guility?!?!
No way! I've been married to this man for 35 years and trust me....they haven't been easy years. When my children were little I used to scrimp and go without alot! I could expand on my reasons for being a bit bitter but won't go into it here.
Nope I don't feel guility at all when I spend "his" money. I deserve it!

NOPE!

I am a Demo, so I do supply my business. I also make things for people all the time!

I use my $ from Workshops, Order's, and Classes to buy what I want. Sometimes I use a little family $ but rarely. And I've often taken $ from my SU account, to help cover bills, groceries, etc.

My husband is a movie buff... he get's them ALL. Now that all these TV shows are producing and selling their Season's... well... that's a whole new ballgame... so he uses $ for that. I support and play with my $.

Bills get paid, kids are fed and clothed, and we enjoy ourselves too!

I think others have hit the nail on the head and quite squarely too

I do feel guilty when I spend alot of money but it doesn't last long. Maybe rather than guilt it's that I'm spending money on ME and not the family, house or kids. But I deserve SOME of the money I make.

My husband is also a hunter. He hunts deer, geese, squirell, rabbit. Did you know that each of those animals require a DIFFERENT gun. Not only that, deer require 2 different guns AND a bow. And each year he needs at least one new gun (sometimes as much as $500.00). And that's not even getting into all the clothes, ammo, calls, hunting stands etc. Next we go to fishing and last summer we had to buy a canoe and motor.

His next hobby is attending pro football games and those tickets can get expensive.

So if I'm ever feeling guilty I simply go into our 2 car garage (which has NO room for ANY cars because of all my husband's "toys") and glance over my husbands hunting & fishing stuff, his numerous tools and his Harley and think that I deserve to get something for myself every once in a while!
