Hey girls, having never worked with Pearl Ex I was wondering if I could get an opinion on which set to order first if I can't afford to get all three at once? Please let me know your pick! Thanks
Tough question!! I would probably go for 2, but Pearl Ex is really about personal preference. The funny thing is, I have all the colors except for 3 in set 1 so I'll be buying it. I'm bummed they took away the Yellow from last year. It worked great on bees.

I like Assortment III. It seems to have a lot of variety!

You use the Embossing Buddy on your cardstock, then stamp your image with VersaMark. Then, when you apply the Pearl Ex to the image, it won't stick to the cardstock. (At least not very badly! :lol

I also think I'm going with #3. I thought about #2, but realized I bought 3 of those colors last year and don't want to repeat. I never used those 3 colors much either! I'm hoping now that we have the waterbrush, I can demo them more.
Funny someone asked this question.... I have #3 on my list too. Seemed the best assortment for me I thought.. glad they put it in smaller jars and in assortments couldn't afford it the other way. I never used it either yet, this will be my first attempt when I do order it.
The embossing buddy makes a big difference. If you use it before you stamp and a pledge wipe to remove the excess PE you won't see any residue of PE where you don't want it. I don't even use the buddy for embossing because I've always had good luck without it but would never PEx something without it. And it's definitely NOT a stupid question.
I know it is not through SU, but I found Michael's craft store to have the small 3gm size, in a 12 pack. There were two different 12 packs. I used the 40% off coupons and got them two weeks in a row. It really helps me to see what colors I use the most of to buy the big bottles from SU. I tend to use a lot of the interference gold for making glitter paper. I mix it with the hair spray and then spray it on the card stock. Makes great glitter paper. I like most of the interference colors, and also the duo colors. If anyone would like info as to which colors are in these sets sold by Michael's, let me know, and I can type the list of each set in. BTW, the sets are like $24.95, but with the 40% off coupon it is very worth the variety!
Oh yes, one of my other very favorite combos I love to do us to use Taken with Teal paper, and spray it with Interference green, or duo blue/green. It makes the paper look like an underwater scene. Looks awesome on cards!
When you mix it with hairspray, do you dilute the hairspray first? Do you spray it after you've stamped and have the project completed or beforehand?
No, the hair spray is not diluted at all. I use the cheapest hair spray I can find in the pump kind. (Equate brand), make sure this is the liquid kind and not the aerosol kind. I mixed in about 1/8 of a teaspoon of the pearl ex. Then shake it well. Shake it well every time you use it and any time you let it sit for longer then a few minutes. I spray the paper first, let it dry (it will curl horribly at first, then relax). I then press it under some books, and then put it into my folder so it is ready to be used. You can stamp on it just fine after it is sprayed
I'm just thinking that the cardstock would have a sticky feel to it even after the spray has dried.
The card stock does not feel sticky at all. The hair spray acts as a fixative for the pearl ex, so that it does not flake off the card when it is dry.
Please elaborate, this idea sounds fabulous!! Fishy Friends is a favored set and I think I could do a lot with this technique!
This is the set my mom used to make her swaps for the convention with. She used the pearl ex colors we talked about to do the background of her card. I haven't seen the sample, but know it must have looked awesome!
CONGRATS GIRL! Don't you feel like something is missing? Like, lets say a watermelon?
I have most them but I bought them individually. Since I don't have the cat. yet is that how they are sold now, in sets? I would go with the one that sells the most duo colors. That way you get two for the price of one and then depending on what color of cardstock you put them on you can get a different effect. Sorry soooo long now you can go check that NEW baby.
