I know many of you had problems with your slit punches. Of those of you who got replacements, was the problem corrected? I just received my replacement and it's worse! Is it worth trying to get them to correct it again? I'm so disappointed!

I just got mine and it seems fine if I'm careful with it. Probably just how it's designed, but I definitely have to push the little flap back before removing the paper.
Not at the top of the arch... but directly across from there. If you hold the punch sideways at eyelevel, you will see a small post come down as you press the lever. That post is making the extra indentation and spoiling the effect.

I, too, had problems with the first slit punch I ordered. It made a perfect 1/8" black circle indentation about 3/4" back from the curved cut -- it looked horrid. I explained the problem to my demo and she was able to get me a new punch in a few days - SU did not want the defective punch back (why waste postage, I guess).
The new punch works perfectly - no nasty indentation.
The problem you are having with the paper wanting to catch after it is punched is not because of a defective punch -- it is a function of the type of cut that is made by the punch. Simple solution: after punching the slit, reach to the back side of punch and gently push the newly cut slit back up into the punch....the project will slid out easily with no tearing.
Do try to get another punch from SU - let your demo know (maybe you are your demo :lol: ) that the problem is not resolved. The punch is really fun to use and there are some awesome samples being posted using it.

Mine has that little post. I just tried using it and it does make an extremely slight indentation that I never would have noticed I wasn't looking for it according to you description. So, I would say..call there is hope and it's a great punch!

My hesitation is because this punch IS a replacement. From what I've been hearing, this may just be the way this punch is. I'll call and see what they say.

My original and replacement both make that indentation. It is the lever inside the punch that makes it. If you punch on the edge of your paper, you won't see it because that lever is not over any paper. If you slide your paper into the punch as far as you can, it makes the mark.
My solution, just punch from the back side of your paper. Flip your paper or the punch upside down. I don't feel like messing with the back and forth of defective products since the replacement also makes this mark. ugh!

My replacement did the same. The little post is there on both of them. Someone suggested punching upside down so that the post mark is on the back of the project and that really helps. I am just going to do that instead of calling again since the replacement is the same as the first. -- Whoops, someone else just suggested that!!

All I know is that the the first slit punch I received made the ugly indentation - and it's not supposed to.
The replacement punch I received 2 weeks ago DOES NOT leave any indentation, it just makes the the nice slit cut.
I'm convinced that those of you who have received replacement punches that leave an unwanted indentation have gotten another defective punch....there should be no marking on the paper other than the slit cut by the punch.
I would suggest you continue returning the punch until you get one that works like it is supposed to.
OK, don't mean to hijack the post, but I have a question related to the darn slit punch. How in the WORLD do you all know how to measure how far you need to punch and how big to make the thing that you're sliding under the tabs so that it fits correctly? Is there some trick that I'm missing?
As far as the post... mine has it, too, but I have never even noticed that it makes a mark on the cardstock. RT, maybe yours is somehow not smoothed out correctly, so it makes a bigger mark than it should? Just thinking out loud...
I started this thread back a while ago, and there have been several other posts as well. My exchanged punch is perfect! I am having real second thoughts about demoing this punch anymore. I just sold and delivered 7 of them, I hope they are ok.
Actually, they didn't make me send back the first one. So they are more than accommodating. I'm just wondering if it's possible to get one that isn't defective. Maybe I should send these back so they can see what I'm talking about... and I should include some samples of the indentations on paper. That's an idea. I'll do that.

RT ~ I received my punch YESTERDAY. I came home tonight and punched and punched and punched going in and out to different places/lengths on the paper. I had no additional marks. I punched soft, I punched hard, I punched and punched. I think it is possible to get a good punch that doesn't leave additional marks because I did and I promise you, if I hadn't SU would already know and I would never lie to you.

Well, I just called demo support. Apparently they have received a lot of calls about this problem. The person I talked to said they just received an email today about the slip punch. Here is the verdict...
If you are getting an indentation from the slip punch, you are pressing too hard. Just press lighter...
I'll give it a try tonight and see if I have any luck. I also press down extremely hard on my writing utensils, so this may make sense for me. I can't even use a mechanical pencil because I constantly break the lead.

I'd call back and talk to someone else if I were told this. No matter how hard I press when punching with my slit punch, I can NOT get an indentation. This is an EK Success issue... when the new corner rounders came out, I had the same indentation problem with one of them no matter how lightly I pressed. Pressing lighter is not an acceptable solution.
I received a bad one and called and they sent one right out. I didn't have to send back the first. Lo and behold the second was bad as well. I called DS and they sent another out. I didn't have to send the 2nd one back either. The third one was the charm. It works fine. Good Luck!

I tried that. I didn't get the indentation, but I also didn't get a fully punched slit. Not an acceptable alternative.
I agree and I will tell you, I practically put all my weight onto the thing and mine never gave me an indent. "Too Hard" shouldn't ever be an issue. I tried an ultra-light touch and had the issue RT had where the paper didn't fully cut. I agree about calling back, pressure shouldn't be an issue if there are those of us out here that aren't getting bad punches.
I have two of the slit punches. I purchased them at a Scrapbook store that discontinued there punches. They were $3.00 each, so I bought two. They are the same as the ones SU sells but they are green instead of black. I hadn't used them yet until I saw this post. I took them both out of the package and same thing they make that nasty indention, and a black oily mark(like lubricant or something). Well at least all of you can exchange yours. I can't, I'm stuck Oh well!! That's what I get for trying to be cheap!! LOL!! I'll order one from SU and keep sending it back until I get one that doesn't do it :lol: Good luck everyone getting one that doesn't do it. It seems to be random luck!!!
I was getting the dent too. But when I really looked at it, it wasn't really a dent but more like a grease mark :? :shock: Like they had oiled the punch. I really looked like a dent but it was definitly grease upon inspection. So I punched, punched, punched on some scrap paper and the grease mark eventually went away.
Andrea, I will definitely try that... thanks for the suggestion. Now that I think about it, that could very well explain why there is no evidence of the problem on the "wrong" side of the paper... only on the side that is against the punching mechanism... hmmmm... Won't I feel bad if that is the case... I feel like I should send back one of the punches. I'll call SU! if I determine this is, in fact, the case.

This is exactly what I do... I have to say, I am none too thrilled with all the new punches... but I have figured out ways to get them to do the job right!!! LOL
